We start with a recap segment explaining the Fight for Your Right tournament thus far. This should really have footnotes and maybe an appendix or two.

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT SEMI-FINAL
Robert Roode (with Miss Brooks) vs. AJ Styles (with Christopher Daniels) vs. Ron Killings (with Lance Hoyt)
: Winner of this fights Abyss later in the show. You know, Killings could believably hold the X-Div belt -- here he hits a nice no-hands somersault over the top rope. They now announce Roode as being from "Wall Street," but he gives himself away by using the rolling half-crab.

Miss Brooks tries to keep Styles from hitting a top-rope move; Daniels pulls her down and feeds her to Hoyt, who scoops her up and places her on the other side of the barricade. An overexcited "fan" spills his soda all over her! Roode comes out to assess the situation; meanwhile, in the ring, Styles reverses an axe kick and rolls up Killings for the win. (Man, isn't that like three matches in a row that Styles has won with surprise roll-ups?)

Oh -- Lynn, Dutt, Lethal, and Sabin have all been watching. Sabin is making the little "whoop-de-doo" finger motion. No respect!

Roode, backstage, yells at Miss Brooks -- he needs crowd control, and he needs a PR guy and Miss Brooks needs to DO HER JOB. Oh boy! I hope Roode, Inc. (LLC) GETS a PR guy and they have lots of WACKY angles! They could bring back Mortimer Plumtree!

Shane Douglas is in the ring and his hair looks pretty goofy -- but I love his yellow polo shirt with "Franchise" embroidered on it (in cursive!). He calls out Brudda Ray, accuses him of disrespecting him and the Nats (gee, that's kind of a theme in TNA these days) and SLAPS him! The Nats run out -- they beat down Ray, and grab a table while Shane chokes Ray out with a chain! Ray thrown through the table! That's a full-blown heel turn, folks.

(I'm glad -- I always thought the Nats were better as weaselly heels than as spunky underdogs.)

Oh -- and they show a quick clip of Devon in the back, all beaten up.

Earlier today, LAX attacked AMW at an autograph signing -- Homicide and Konnan slam Chris Harris' hand between a wall and a guardrail, and Hernandez Border Tosses James Storm INTO A WALL. That's pretty cool.

Is this heel/heel, or did AMW turn face when I wasn't looking?

Austin Starr vs. Petey Williams vs. Johnny Devine: Nash and Shelley are out with Starr; Nash is commentating and Shelley is manning the camera. They point out that Devine was fired by Nash from Paparazzi Productions.

Petey has a real lazy Russian Leg Sweep -- I hate it when they don't bother hooking the leg. That's the "leg sweep" part of it, guys. I DO like his slingshot-front-lungblower thing, though. Devine hits his frogsault for the first time in I-don't-know-how-long -- I'd forgotten it even existed. Starr KILLS Devine with the brainbuster, goes up top for the 450 -- but Shelley is filming him from the apron, and he can't help but pose for the camera. Williams runs over and slams Shelley into Starr, hits the Canadian Destroyer on Devine and Bob's your uncle.

Nash has words with his proteges, and LAX are out for a promo -- Konnan announces that next week, he will burn an American flag!

Split screen promo with Christian Cage and Rhino to hype their barbed-wire-steel-cage match NEXT WEEK. I'm still confused about whether or not "escape" is a viable option for winning the match, because escape has NEVER been an option ever before as far as I know (except for that XCAPE X-Div thing that they've done once or twice). I SUSPECT that Russo just assumes that escape is okay because he hasn't been watching and no one bothered to mention it.

Hype for Joe vs. Angle NEXT WEEK

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT FINALS
Abyss vs. AJ Styles
: Mitchell and Daniels are not allowed at ringside. Abyss starts out by tossing Styles around a little; Styles retorts by snapping off a couple of huracanranas. X-Div guys are watching -- Sabin is no-selling. Funny spot where Styles is going for a discus punch and Abyss just NAILS him with a regular punch in the head. Ref Bump! Oh, here's Cage -- steel chair for Abyss! Steel chair for Styles! Cage is angry because HE'S the #1 contender! Ref is up again -- both guys are down -- 10 count and that's that.

NO WAIT -- after commercial, they restart the match (after the other refs explain to Andrew Thomas what the deal is). Mitchell is out with the tacks! (I have to assume, given Abyss' track record, that Mitchell thinks that Abyss has a better chance of winning if he falls into a pile of tacks first.) Daniels is out to chase Mitchell off! Ref is distracted -- Sabin kicks AJ in the head, sweet Black Hole Slam and NOW we're done.

Styles and Abyss always work well together for reason I don't quite grasp -- I wish we had gotten to see more of that instead of all the other stuff. I just don't know why people think it's MORE DRAMATIC to stop a match in the middle and restart it again -- it's really rare that that doesn't just kill a match dead in its tracks.

Oh, and there's Sting, in the rafters.

I really like TNA's PPVs, but there is almost NEVER anything on Impact that would make me think, if I didn't already know, that there would be ANY good wrestling at on the PPVs at ALL.

That Border Toss into the wall was SICK. I don;t know if the "smack" sound affect was added in later, but effective either way.
The main event was disappointing, AJ and Abyss have had some very good matches in the past. And taking a commercial break, and coming back with 2 minutes left in the show was pretty anti-climactic. That only works on Raw, because it is live.

I figured they did the whole stop the match thing because that way we wouldn't actually miss any of the action from the match. Made sense to me.

Roode did a decent job of keeping up with Styles and Killings in the first match. The roling half crab was good for a guy his size. I thought AJ and Abyss was good. Not as spectacular as their other matches but it's about the best they can do with a one hour show. I don't know why everyone is so hard on TNA. The three matches tonight were all better than any match on RAW.

I think AMW is supposed to be faces now. They didn't do anything to turn face though, they're just not LAX. The three way X-Division match strangely was all heels though, unless Devine is supposed to a face. If he is I didn't get the memo.

The thing I didn't like about the show Karlos didn't mention. It was announced during the main event that Kurt Angle's debut match would be against the winner of Abyss vs. AJ. What? So either the number one contender or Angle is going to go into the ppv with a loss? The only way that match can end is in a no finish an that isn't going to make Angle look that good after all the hype. His first match should be someone he tears to pieces.

I have always been confused by commercial breaks on a taped show. Why would we have to miss any of the action on Impact or SD! when they go to the break? Can't the tape just start up where it stopped before the break? Is it to give a "live" illusion?
Also, do cable channels take more frequent breaks than network shows? I ask because I can think of several instances, including the recent Rey-Chavo I quit match on SD! that were shown in their entirety without commercial break, probably at least 10-12 minutes. But you rarely see this on Raw or Impact. Any ideas?

Now I dont know if TNA realizes some people have TIVO, but when Don West was pimping the 50 greatest TNA moments (I think it was a DVD, but don't hold me to it). They then go and proceed to show all 50 moments, in order, leaving nothing out.

This makes me wonder, what's the need to buy the DVD now, when I've just seen how they rank all 50 moments in order? Probably not a good way to go about that.

Quezzy...I think the non-finish is the only way to go with Angle's debut. You know how TNA loves run-ins, and Samoa Joe I'm sure will be chomping at the bit to get a piece of Angle.

2 hour primetime premiere next week, I really really hope that TNA brings the goods. Angle's debut, Christian/Rhino, and I have a feeling they'll have an X match of some sort with AJ/Daniels v. Sabin/Lethal or Dutt. Pretty packed Impact card.

I did that when it aired as well. But I think I and others will still buy it to actually see the moments. Like seeing Hall again, some good debuts, and title changes.

And why did Christian have on a totally different shirt when he did that interview and then later on when he attacked A.J. and Abyss?

Are you referring to the end of the "swinging head-scissors into a Russian legsweep" sequence? Maybe he didn't lock that leg right, but he twirled perfectly into the proper standing position. It was remarkable.

I'm disappointed in how they're using Roode. Forget the booking. I'm talking about the gimmick. Roode shouldn't play the weasel pseudo-comic heel. He's built solidly enough to play the Dr. Death role, and he seemed to do more of that while part of Team Canada. If they get the recently fired Dibiase to replace Ms. Brooks, it will eclipse my complaints about Roode. So, fingers crossed for that.

Abyss versus Angle and then against Sting? I dunno. I like the idea of Sting again taking on a monster heel as he did with vader and Guardian Angel. But Abyss seems to work well in matches with the small flyers, and that ain't Sting. This could be a real dull match. That's after Abyss goes in the ring with Angle in a match that one would think has no chance of a clean finish. But Abyss vs. Angle seems like the kind of match that could protect Angle, unlike a match with Styles where Angle might be tempted to match A.J.'s energy.

I'm glad they kept Killings and wonder if they'll follow up on his friendly gesture to Elix Skipper.

This was my first chance to see Austin Starr/Aries really get a chance to shine, and he looked sharp.

I don't get Sabin sitting with Lynn after verbally trashing the guy last week.

Uhhh, yeah, I guess it was that one. NOW I feel like an asshole for only noticing the negative and not the positive. Russian leg sweeps where the guy doesn't hook the other guy's leg is, for some reason, one of my huge pet peeves -- it drives me up the wall. Every time I see a Russian leg sweep, I go right to the leg and everything else flies right out of my brain.

Okay, maybe "lazy" wasn't the word I should've used but I will be keeping an EYE on him.
