This show was...depressingly lousy.

There's a new backstage interviewer -- I thought it was Goldylocks at first -- I'm still not 100% sure that it isn't. I don't think it is. I guess we need a brainless blonde if there's gonna be a war!

Cage and Tomko in the ring -- Tomko has no first name. They insinuate that Tomko and Abyss have history. Sting chases them off.

VKM are doing skits -- OMG, they actually say, "hey, we're just doing the EXACT SAME THING that we were doing TEN YEARS AGO when we worked for you." (I am rephrasing for humorous effect.)

I don't want to talk about VKM anymore. I'm SURE that there's some sort of META-LEVEL at work here that I'm just not grasping. Okay, I admit that them yelling at WWE headquarters, "VINCE! COME OUT WITH YOUR PANTS UP!" is pretty funny.

Sabin vs. Lethal vs. Dutt: This is a #1 contender match. Wait, it's not a match -- it's actually a two minute exhibition with a throwaway ending (Lethal hits his finisher on Dutt -- Sabin shoves Lethal out of the ring and gets the pin). There's a story there -- Dutt and Lethal want to be #1 contender, but, perhaps more importantly, DON'T want SABIN to be #1 contender -- but there's no time to actually do more than suggest that the story exists. I DON'T UNDERSTAND how they can bemoan the sorry state of the X Division and feel that they need MORE WACKY NASH SKITS and yet simultaneously give us NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING matches like this.

Tenay interviews AJ Styles. Styles was alright, I thought. He doesn't trust Rhino -- Rhino must want something. Rhino shows up and they argue.

Here's Nash and the X Guys. LOOK AT ALL THE PEE!

Hoyt & Killings vs. Starr & Shelley: Is this a tag match? 'Cause everyone just ran around all at once. Shelly wins with a roll-up -- he uses the tights -- Starr decides to rat him out and shows the tape from the paparazzi cam to the ref. Decision is overturned. Senseless, nothing match that I describe as a "match" only for convenience.

Traci Brooks challenges Eric Young to A BIKINI CONTEST!

Serotonin is coming soon! Please ignore that they were already here and were total jobbers! My, this long term booking is AMAZING!

Sting is in the ring -- he calls out Abyss and proselytizes to him! HE CALLS HIM "CHRIS"! I think he's trying to convert Abyss FOR REAL!

Sting leaves -- Cage and Tomko arrive to beat Abyss down - Sting comes back and chases them off (again) -- offers his hand to a confused (yearning?) Abyss, but Mitchell comes down and takes Abyss away.

Angle & Petey Williams vs. LAX:LAX beat down Petey backstage (they have already taken out AMW) -- so the match with Angle is 2-on-1. Then Samoa Joe comes out to join Kurt, as per the agreement they made last week. They each have one member of LAX in submission holds -- Jim Cornette comes down -- the bell rings -- they announce that it's a "no contest" because Joe wasn't contractually signed to be Kurt partner. We saw just enough (about 4 1/2 min.) for me to want to see an actual match -- if we ever get another one of those.

Worst Impact that I can remember. Wacky skits that weren't funny (and TNA has often had funny skits involving these same guys -- Nash and Young) and "wrestling" that never actually coalesced into a "match."

Jeremy Borash was recently removed from doing backstage interviews on TNA broadcasts. Apparently, there was a problem with his "look" and some people didn't like his style. Also, the feeling was that they needed a pretty girl to do the interviews. A woman who works for Spike TV named Letitia will be doing the backstage interviews from now on. She should be appearing soon on television, perhaps as early as tomorrow's Impact show. If not tomorrow night, then she should be appearing on the 12/7 show because there was a segment in which she interviews Eric Young - who tells her he is attempting to lose some weight. Regarding her interviewing skills, she was described as "being as bad as Rebecca DiPietro," the ECW backstage interview girl. Furthermore, Letitia was said to be nervous, not to mention having little clue on how to do her job.

There is one thing I don't really understand.
Angle refused a rematch to Joe.
Joe told him he would then get a rematch the hard way (implying pain and punishment, right?)
A few days later he already gets the rematch, and then they agree to help eachother out.

Hrm..so where is the buildup in this angle now?

The Abyss story actually isn't all that bad. Just hope they can play it out to the end without doing anything really silly.
I'd assume that either Abyss becomes the sympathetic monster or goes total batshit and becomes a true menace instead of just the guy that does cool tackspots every now and then.

I just can't get into wrestlers using lines "pioneered" by Beavis and Butt-Head ten years ago.

However, I did think the randomness of Alex Shelley's test coming back clean for steroids but saying he has chlamydia was funny.
Speaking of random, AJ Styles' whole "You don't know me, you haven't come from the trailer park" thing was kind of out-of-the-blue, and is an unfortunately very contrived way to start an AJ-Rhino feud.

What are you all trying to say, that Vince Russo is a horrendous writer with no attention span for angles he himself set up 48 hours prior to this set of TV tapings?

At least the wrestling on the show was good, right? Oh wait, no, it was abysmal. I FF everything I don't want to watch on the WWE shows on my DVR (which is a substantial amount these days), but there's no need to FF during TNA's matches. Russo does it himself for us.

And yet, I'm happy to see Tomko. A holdover of my fond memories of the Christian, Trish and Tomko faction of 2004. Christian is exactly the type of guy who needs someone to watch his back. I'm betting on him at Turning Point.

The weirdest part to me about the AJ Styles interview was him yelling at Tenay, Tenay yelling back, and a sudden jump cut to a calm Tenay resuming his inane questions. Tenay has the secret to anger management.'

Lines of the night:

Kevin Nash: "Your tests all showed up clean for anabolic steroids, much to my chagrin. Except [Alex Shelley], you tested positive for chlymedia."

Alex Shelly: "Aw! The Clap?!"

Heh heh. Classic.

I don't wanna spoil anything, but I have this kind of "russo" feeling that Mitchell could be the father of Sting AND Abyss and one of those two as a child killed both of their parents ...

No, no, no. Jake the Snake Robers is Abyss' dad, not Mitchell.

I totally forgot about Jake the Snake's appearance.

I'm hoping this angle will be interesting and that they give it time.

My fear is that they'll unmask Abyss.

I have a bad feeling that someone wants to turn him into a Mick Foley type character.

This is a horrible idea, and I hope I'm wrong. I'd rather have TNA keep everyone as characters and not as real people... if that makes sense.

The sad thing is all the people who were so vehemently defending the hot-shotting of Angle-Joe and Angle's going over actually presented some really good ways in which the angle could have been salvaged and made pretty awesome. The problem is they presented them as what they thought Vince Russo was going to do. When really we know the feud is just building towards a something-on-a-pole match at some point.

ISTR that Russo used the same tag-team story (last-minute replacement for injured wrestler comes into the match, and they win the tag titles, only to have the belts returned to the team that lost because that guy wasn't officially in the match) back in WCW. Anyone remember specifically?

Other than that, I have little to add to the general doom-and-gloom. They couldn't even be bothered to identify the new backstage interviewer--not that I care, but it's indicative of the level of thought going into the product these days.

When Abyss first popped up in TNA a few years back, I heard a lot of people referring to him as a copy and/or poor man's version of Kane. Now that we've had Kane unmasked for some time, I don't hear people passing that remark as often as I used to.

Take the mask off him, and I guarantee you it'll start up all over again.

It ain't just Angle/Joe, it's the booking for TNA as a whole. Almost everything they've done lately (even the lower-card angles/storylines) seems rushed and reeks of desperation. I personally think people are still making too much of the way Angle/Joe was set up and booked - not because I disagree with the thought that they didn't take full advantage, but rather that it's only the symptom of a much larger problem. In terms of creative, TNA needs to settle the Hell down.

I'm suprised no one's busted out an "Abyss fucked Katie Vick" line?

Actually, as far as meta-shit goes, that would be really hilarious. Play it off that Tomko is just really, really confused.

That's about all I have to say about the show.
