Interesting show -- more straightforward and focused than last week, but also much more obviously booked by Russo.

We start with some backstage clips from earlier today -- basically, Chris Sabin has degenerated from Jackass buffoon to seriously disrespectful and AJ Styles doesn't like it. Sabin -- hubris! -- puts the title on the line in their match tonight!

(I should mention -- there are three matches tonight amongst the 6 guys from last week's Reverse/Non-reverse Battle Royal -- the winners of THESE three matches will be in a Triple Threat next week. the winner of that will face Abyss, and the winner of that gets a title shot at Genesis against Sting.)

AJ Styles vs. Chris Sabin: Fair match; the guys mostly hit their signature moves. Styles nails a really pretty slingshot Superman forearm. Sabin reverses the Quebrada DDT -- I'm pretty sure that I've never seen anyone do that before. Sabin goes for the Cradle Shock -- it gets reversed into a rollup for the pin.

Sabin looks kind of like a chump after this -- he was able to keep up with Styles, but Styles was never really in peril; considering that Sabin's belt was on the line, it didn't feel like Sabin (the character) was putting in much effort. Sabin's heel turn was mild enough where he could shrug it off next week if he felt like it.

RUSSO TIP-OFF #1: Styles has gold. (Of course, Styles usually has gold.)

Sting promo: Sting says that the NWA belt has always meant greed and lust; Sting will make it about honor and truth. Sting gives all credit to God Almighty; without God, Sting is nothing.

RUSSO TIP-OFF #2: Shout-out to God. (Assuming you believe that Russo is really born-again.)

Borash is in back with Killings and Hoyt -- they're buddies and stuff, but opponents tonight! Knuckle up! After they leave, Eric pops up -- he's looking for Jarrett.

Ron Killings vs. Lance Hoyt: This is about two minutes long, and ends with Killings putting Hoyt away with the Axe Kick while barely breaking a sweat. Wow, this seems awfully perfunctory, especially given Hoyt's would-be-revelatory performance last week (taped the same night). "Wow, that Hoyt might really be something! Oh, wait, no." Disappointing.

The James Gang hits the ring -- they apologize to Killings, but they've got something to say. When they were with the other company, they were misused. When BG was part of the 3LK, they were misused. And now, the "upper echelon" of TNA is not giving the James Gang the push they deserve! BG throws away his TNA hat and quits! Kip is on the same page, but doesn't want to sugar-coat it: "TNA -- Spike TV -- " and his mic is cut off. He tries the announce table headset -- "TNA -- Spike TV -- " and gets cut off again. He stands on the table: "TNA -- Spike TV -- " and we cut to commercial. Hey, Kip, if you had said what you wanted to say instead of announcing who you were saying it to three times, we might have heard you.

RUSSO TIP-OFF #3: C'mon, this is a gimme.

I WAS WRONG #1: I thought the James Gang was breaking up.

Christopher Daniels vs. Robert Roode: Miss Brooks is out with Roode. You can tell she's a Business Professional because she's wearing French cuffs! No sleeves or anything, but still! Roode looks lumbering and powerful. Daniels clearly outwrestles him, but due to repeated (well nigh constant, in fact) interference from Miss Brooks, Roode is able to hit the Payoff for the pin.

You know, I thought the Payoff was one of the coolest moves ever when Reno did it in WCW, but now it seems weeeeeak. Is it just overexposure? Or was Reno just better at it than everyone else? Anyway -- TNA is pretty tuned in to the indie scene -- surely there's a better finisher there that Rood could gank.

After the match, AJ comes down to run off Roode and Brooks; he and Daniels get into an argument. Perhaps Daniels feels that AJ should have been out here keeping an eye on Miss Brooks instead of in back smooching his new belt.

Christian Cage vs. Rhino: This is a THINGS ON A POLE match. There are four poles, each with a different object: a key, bolt cutters, steel chairs, and a straightjacket. Whatever you can get down from the poles, you can bring with you to the BARBED WIRE STEEL CAGE MATCH on the Nov. 16 Prime Time debut on SPIKE TV. (The key opens the cage door.) Once you take an object down, it's taken away from you and put into a plastic bin with your name on it. Cute!

Rhino gets the key and the straightjacket. Christian gets the bolt cutters and the chairs. He's given the opportunity to get the chairs when Maverick Matt -- looking like a cross between Shannon Moore and Raven -- runs out and attacks Rhino (no one knows why). When Christian pulls down the chairs, the bell rings. I guess the match was just a contest to see who gets what objects.

Rhino takes out Matt and puts the straightjacket on Cage (he has to go and get it out of his plastic bin first -- cute! -- I guess it's a good thing they had their names on them so he could find it easier). Kazarian comes down -- he now has green hair and ripped jeans just like Matt. This gives Cage a chance to squirm away up the ramp. Gore for Matt. Kazarian gets a running spinebuster through a table propped up in the corner -- that was pretty cool.

Okay, correct me if I'm wrong: I think this might be the first match ever that is specifically designed to have no winner at all. There were opening and closing bells, they were in a ring, but no one won and no one lost. That's just...weird.

RUSSO TIP-OFF #4: THINGS ON POLES

RUSSO TIP-OFF #5: Who cares about "rules"?

RUSSO TIP-OFF #6: Surprise run-ins!

I WAS WRONG #2: I thought they were breaking up Matt & Kazarian, too. Are they the new Flock?

There's there's a Joe/Angle training montage, the "Adrenaline Rush" recap, and we're done.

Signing Kurt Angle may well end up being the best thing TNA ever did. It's a pity it came at the same as rehiring Vinnie Ru. Even without his tasteless Crash TV stylings the guy just can't book a coherent show.

Side note: TNAWrestling.com have announced that Angle will make his in-ring debut on the prime-time special...against the winner of the Fight For Your Right tourney. What the Hell is the point of that match? It's a lose-lose booking situation.

To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow

Sabin put the title on the line because he's cocky and lost it. Stings wants to put dignity back into the championship belt. Killings and Hoyt are friends but had to fight for a shot at the title. Daniels is mad because AJ won singles gold when they are a tag team. Christian and Rhino fought for items in their cage match. Is all of it good booking? Maybe not, but I don't see how it's incoherent, everything made sense to me.

I'm sure some people are going to say AJ is above the X Division but I think it's a good move to put him back in the division. Someone needs to restore some importance in the X Division. Shelley, Aries, Low Ki, and Sabin can all benefit from having Styles and Daniels to feud with. Also it's about time they broke up Styles and Daniels too, it was a nice run but needed to end.

I couldn't agree with you more. I hope that by putting AJ back into the division, TNA is again putting emphasis on what put them on the map in the beginning.

AJ and Daniels helped to strengthen the tag division, but there absence has hurt the X division. But it still made Sabin look like a chump for AJ to come back and win the belt back in 5 minutes. Maybe this will lead to a full on heel turn by Sabin and feud with AJ, because I have always wanted to see those guys go at it for 15-20 minutes.
I didn't mind the "shoot" promo, but I wish it could have been used on someone who is not as washed up as the James Gang (like the Truth, or Monty, before he left). It's ironic, I have been watching some '97 stuff between them and the Road Warriors on 24/7, and they are now in that role of the "O.L.D.", the once proud champs who have hung around too long. That being said, I do think TNA missed some opportunities with them when they first reunited.

After the Sting promo, Mike Tenay was talking about, all of Stings problems when he was champion before. I'm just wondering did Sting actually have problems before he became born again, or is this just part of the angle?

I like Styles and I love Daniels, but having yet another match between the two, and for the X title no less, is just same old same old. When you've got Shelley, Starr, Sabin, Senshi, Petey Williams, Jay Lethal, Kazarian, Bentley, and even more talent with which to build a midcard division on, they shouldn't be using that belt to prop up the umpteenth match between two upper-carders. Daniels and Styles should be playing with Christian, Rhino, Jarrett, Angle and the other ME players, not feuding yet again. There's no forward momentum to it, not for the guys involved in the match, and not for the waiting-to-be-pushed talent that keeps on missing out on these programs.

Yeah, we've seen Styles vs. Daniels a lot but I'd pay to see them wrestle no matter how many times they wrestled, I'm sure a lot of TNA fans would too. Plus the move to prime time is hopefully going to bring in more viewers, viewers that might not have seen Styles vs Daniels yet. I'd like to see Styles and Daniels seperate and feud with the other X Division guys or main eventers, but I don't see how there's anything wrong with doing a one month feud with them after they break up. After all if they don't address the breakup people on message boards everywhere will probably complain that they dropped it with no explanation.

The "shoot" promo was probably wasted on the James Gang, but man B.G. can still cut a promo.

Does anyone know the status of Low KI? Is he done with TNA? If so, what a disappointing run. Some good matches, yes, but that's about it. What little "rub" he gave to Sabin at the last PPV, was squashed 2 days later at the tapings when Sabin jobbed to AJ in 4 minutes.

Well, interesting show. I wonder if Sting will turn heel; in a religious sense I'm sure he would find something worthwhile in doing an angle where absolute power corrupts, only for him to turn babyface and see the light. It would actually be a good moral arc of a story. I wasn't turned off by Sting talking about his faith, it was rather refreshing with all the negative portrayals we get from babyfaces.

The matches weren't good. The X-division change was bad. I dunno, it's like WWE putting the tag titles on the Dudleys or the Women's title on Trish Stratus over and over. If the division can't grow beyond AJ or Daniels, then you might as well abolish it. It also reeks of keeping midcarders in their place. AJ needs to permanently be in the main event scene. The problem is that every time TNA signs some other 'big name,' everyone else slides down a notch.

Good promo by BG and a little on the money, actually. We forget how incredibly over the NAO was during their WWE run and their presence in DX WAS huge (especially for Helmsley.) I'd be curious to see where this goes, I mean...it's not like there's anything else for them to do.

Awesome package for Joe/Angle.

So is AJ going to be the one facing the inventor of the X-division now? Yes I am talking about Kevin Nash.
Or has that angle been dropped AGAIN?

I *HATE* Vince Russo. Make him stop ruining the only wrestling show I still care about. Please.

Everything was just so overbooked and underwrestled. Like, as if the whole Double Battle Royal Triple Threat Tournament thing wasn't complicated enough, the Styles/Sabin match suddenly turns into a Title match. Ow, you're hurting me. Jeez, just have Styles win the tourney match and then you've got a custom-made title feud with the face chasing. But, no, Russo can't stand to just do things the right way.

Then as near as I can remember, the Truth beats Lance Hoyt by hitting him with some heavy speculation that having the NWA belt will cause Sting to lose The Jesus. WTF???? They just mentioned Sting's being all religious (and as a smark I've known about it for years, but it wasn't part of his character, so I didn't care) and already we think he's going to lose it because, um, when he used to be wild he was sometimes the champ? It just made no sense, and totally overshadowed the way-too-short match.

The James Gang thing was just stupid. I don't care that it's a "worked shoot". Make it, like, interesting. They didn't.

And, finally, the most ridiculous match you're likely to see, the Fetching Weapons for the Barbed Wire Cage Match match. Only Russo would ever want to see such a thing. So Rhino's going to carry a straitjacket to the cage match? That'll be stupid. But the BEST part of this match is that they now each have one thing to help them escape from the cage. That's so wonderful because this isn't WWE, and therefore THERE ARE NO ESCAPES IN A CAGE MATCH! They even ran a promo RIGHT BEFORE THE MATCH that specifically said there there's no escape from the cage. Hello! Is someone with an attention span that's measurable actually looking at this? Arrgh. Sorry to totally go off on a rant there, but it gets my goat. So much nonsense; so little wrestling action.
