Ok, it's Thursday, meaning it's time for iMPACT! Once again, through the magic of TiVo...

-Show opens with Jim Cornette talking about a gag order, telling Tenay and West that they can't mention who debuted at Genesis. This actually isn't a bad move to at least try and surprise those that missed the PPV and don't spend all their time scouring the 'net like all of us do.
-Show starts proper with who else? It's Kurt Angle with wife Karen, Styles, and Tomko. Angle names his new stable the Angle Alliance, effectively killing off the Christian Coalition. Kevin Nash comes out and has words for Kurt over the PPV. The Angle Alliance take him down quickly before the jobber squad comes from the back to save the day.
-Latino American Xchange v. The Rock & Rave Connection (w/ Christy Hemme). Is that really the best name they could come up with for Hemme's boys? Finish comes when Hemme distracts Homicide, allowing Rave to roll him up for the pin. Why the hell are they jobbing LAX to these clowns, who are going absolutely nowhere?! Post-match, LAX give Rave the beatdown he deserves while Hemme gets knocked out by the female Latino Nation member, who was wielding Stevie Ray's old blackjack.
-Team 3D is backstage with the X Division title and a hostage in a hood. They have demands, of course. Scrap the X Division name, cease all fan chants of "This is awesome!", all X Division wrestlers must stop putting themselves over on the internet, 12 cases of Ding Dongs, 5 cases of Yoohoo, and all X Division women must be surrendered to Team 3D. This all seems relatively reasonable, except I think Ray's had more than enough Ding Dongs.
-Crystal interviews Christian Cage in a dark area. Christian is not amused that the Christian Coalition unceremoniously ditched him. He promises a confrontation is forthcoming.
-Robert Roode & Miss Brooks v. Chris Harris & Gail Kim in Mixed Tag Team action. The Chris Harris heel turn thankfully looks to be scrapped...at least it LOOKS that way. You never know with these guys. Match ends when Roode asks Brooks for a chair. When she doesn't give it to him, he simply takes it and whacks Harris into next Thursday for the pin. After the match, Roode continues to bash Harris with the chair, but Brooks gets in Roode's face. Brooks then finds Roode's planted fan and pulls her over the guardrail to kick her ass.
-Backstage, Cornette takes Matt Morgan to task over his hands-on approach to running the show last week during his absence. Lance Hoyt comes in and blathers on about man-on-woman violence, threatening to take the issue up with Spike TV. Ok then.
-Team 3D comes out with their hostage in tow. The fans start the "This is awesome!" chant just to piss off Ray, which is kinda funny. The Dudz call out the Motor City Machine Guns and get them. Sabin notes that of all the things he could have demanded, Ray demanded Ding Dongs. Ray responds by whipping and unmasking his hostage, who turns out to be Havok. Jay Lethal then comes out and demands his belt. Ray tells him to come get it, but then the Dudz get jumped by Shark Boy, Petey Williams, and Sonjay Dutt. Lethal frees Havok, who picks up his trusty kendo stick. But of course, since we haven't had a patented Vince Russo SHOCKING SWERVE in a while now, this naturally means Havok turns on the X Division guys for no good reason. Keep in mind, there were SIX X DIVISION GUYS, including the champion, and they all got laid to waste by the over-the-hill Dudz and a jobber. Just when you think the feud's going in the right direction, it quickly turns to crap.
-Jeremy Borash talks to Styles and Tomko. Styles seems genuinely sorry for ditching Christian and wonders if he'll get demoted from his captain role. Tomko just shakes his head and points out that Christian wouldn't understand.
-Jim Mitchell tells us all that Judas Mesias will soon return. If his return means Black Reign gets flushed down the toilet, he can't come back soon enough.
-Scott Hall and Kevin Nash (Don't call them The Outsiders! WWE lawyers are watching!) come out. They talked to Cornette, who arranged for a six-man tag team main event for Turning Point. The Angle Alliance against the former Outsiders and a mystery partner. Oh fun, MORE mystery partners!
-Black Reign (w/ Misty the Rat) v. Rellik v. Abyss in a three-way match. Rellik is the wrestler formerly known as Redrum, who in turn is formerly known as Johnny "The Bull". Rellik also wears a horror-film style mask. He actually looks more intimidating than Judas Mesias, but of course he's juiced to all hell, which always helps. Reign and Rellik take turns beating on Abyss, but soon argue over who gets the pin. Abyss soon makes the comeback, dumps Reign, and hits the Black Hole Slam on Rellik for the pin. Yes, because Dustin Rhodes needs to be protected at all costs, the solution is to job the new guy right out of the gate! I'm astounded. The heels beat down on Abyss after the match before Rhino makes the save.
-Borash talks to Kurt Angle backstage. Kurt referred to Hall and Nash at one point as the Outsiders. Better hope those WWE lawyers aren't REALLY watching. He scoffs at the idea of their mystery partner, pointing out that Sean Waltman doesn't even have the brain cells to find the building. Well, he's right about that, at least. He then cuts a standard promo against Kaz, his opponent for tonight.
-Awesome Kong v. Alexa Jade. SQUASH! The interesting thing to note here, though, is that all these squash matches are starting to have a Goldberg effect and get Kong over. Post-match, Gail Kim comes out to confront Kong and gets squashed like a bug for her troubles.
-Now comes the contract signing. Jim Cornette brings Booker T and Sharmell out to the ring. Booker signs his contract, which brings out Christian Cage. Christian then cuts an intense promo, pointing out that Booker's here to win a World Title like everyone else. Christian then calls himself the king in TNA in comparison to Booker's former employers. We then get a bleeped line, which is enough to get Booker on the attack. The cynics might see this as a program between two WWE castoffs, but this was great work from Christian and I'm very excited for this feud.
-Kurt Angle v. Kaz for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Kaz is being played as a HUGE underdog here, adding to the tension. Kaz manages to outwrestle Kurt at the beginning, but Kurt soon wakes up and starts taking the youngster to school. Kurt gets the Anklelock, but Kaz rolls him up for a near-fall. Kurt stops any chance of a comeback with a German suplex and looks to finish with the Olympic Slam. Kaz counters with an arm drag and big dropkick for a close two. Kaz looks for the Wave of the Future, but Kurt counters. Second try for the Wave HITS and Kaz covers for an even closer two! Karen Angle distracts referee Earl Hebner, allowing Kurt to go low and hit the Olympic Slam. That gets two, however. Angle went up top to presumably set up the Anglesault, but Kaz pops up and meets him up top to hit the FLUX CAPACITOR! THAT only gets two! Kaz can smell a victory and shoots for a third Wave, but the wily Kurt counters into a 3/4 Nelson cradle for the pin. Kaz did his damndest and gave it his all, but Kurt was just too much for him. Say what you will about Kurt hogging the show segments, but logic says Kaz shouldn't have stood a chance and been a smear on the mat. Kurt had everyone believing that Kaz just might pull it off and THAT'S the sign of a great performer. Great TV match!
-Post-match, Kaz gets cocky and points out that he came that close, which nearly prompts Kurt to come back and smack him around. Hall and Nash then jump him while Kaz quickly makes himself an afterthought (sigh) and leaves the ring quietly. Styles and Tomko run in for the save, but then the mystery partner's music hits. Survey says...it's Samoa Joe! Joe cleans house to end the show.

This looked to be another dreadful edition of iMPACT! until that last half-hour. Christian helps bring Booker into the organization in a huge way while Kurt and Kaz tore the house down with a great match. Kaz showed he can hang with the main eventers tonight, but let's hope they're serious about keeping him with the big dogs. We wouldn't want Kaz turning into the next Shelton Benjamin, would we?

And it looks like it's time for Joe to join the main event program again. Joe/Angle Part 25 is now an inevitability.

It should also be noted that there was ZERO sign of Sting tonight. Make of this what you will.

Another alright show but I'm tired.

LAX vs. The Rock 'n' Rave Infection (INFECTION, Falsie! It's an AWESOME name!) was -- well, it was fair -- Hernandez is STILL a BEAST OMG. Jimmy Rave wins with a surprise roll up on distracted-by-Hemme Homicide -- Hernandez comes back in after the pinfall and LAX starts BEATING the CRAP out of Rave. Hemme in - she gets slapjacked by the mystery Latino Nation member! (Later, Hoyt and Rave complain to Jim Cornette about the attack on Hemme from a male -- they don't yet know that it's [apparently] Shelly Martinez!)

3D have taken an X-Divver hostage -- he's under a hood -- and they have demands, including no more chanting "this is awesome"; X-Divvers are not allowed to "get themselves over" on the internet under fake names; and they want 12 cases of Ding Dongs. Oh, and Yoo-hoo! Ray does a little dance!

Chris Harris & Gail Kim vs. Robert Roode & Miss Brooks: Well, this was here for the story of Roode's #1 fan -- Miss Brooks stood up to Roode during the match (although he still pinned Harris after a chairshot) and then hauled his #1 fan over the railing.

Tenay and West brought up what a giant whiner Harris is these days, although he didn't do anything heelish during the match so I dunno what is up with that. I'm still hoping for a reunion of America's Most Wanted -- we could use a good heel tag team.

3D is in the ring with their hostage victim. Motorcity Machine Guns (and Jay Lethal) are here, too -- they didn't bring them Ding Dongs, but they did bring the Ho Hos -- their moms! Ah ha ha ha!

3D unmask their hostage -- it's Havok! He's out of makeup and he looks scared! (Hey, if TNA does hire Ryan O'Reilly, maybe Havok could play Cyril.) MMG and the X Division goof squad rush in -- Lethal frees Havok -- but Havok is a TRAITOR! noooooo

(You know, I thought the 3D/MMG match at Genesis was really good, but the whole depiction of the X Division as a bunch of goofy little guys is really a mistake. I've said this before, but I think the X Div needs one or two big guys in it at all times to avoid coming off as some sort of Juniors division.)

Abyss vs. Black Reign vs. Rellik: Rellik is the guy that debuted at Genesis in Reign's box; he used to be Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli. He's totally unrecognizable. I really like his mask, in part because it's a little tough to see where it begins and ends, but the rest of his outfit is kinda half-assed. (Oh, also, his name is spelled with a backwards 'K'.)

Anyway, this is supposedly a three-way, but of course it's really a handicap match (who booked this [kayfabe], anyway?) -- NEVERTHELESS, Abyss beats Rellik CLEAN with a Black Hole Slam -- WTF? That's an...odd choice. Maybe Rellik is intended to be a minor cog once Mesias comes back. Or it's just that Dustin's gotta be protected, I guess.

Rhino comes out after the match to help out Abyss, apparently missing the part where Abyss beat them single-handed already.

Alexa Jade vs. Awesome Kong: HOLY CRAP Kong DESTROYS Jade. Kong is WAY scarier than Rellik is! She also Kongbombs Gail Kim!

BOOKER T is out with SHARMELL and chat with Jim Cornette and they both sign CONTRACTS. Christian Cage is out and he and Booker fuss about. This is exciting because I have never seen these to go at it ever!

Kurt Angle vs. Kaz had a forgone conclusion, which is fine (although I did NOT foresee Kaz kicking out of the Angle Slam!) -- the real question is what do they do with Kaz now? It doesn't look like there is any room anywhere near the Main Event to slot him in. Post-match activities make it clear that Angle will be teaming with AJ Styles and Tomko (The "Angle Alliance") to take on Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Samoa Joe (I wonder who gets to do the heavy lifting on THAT team), and Cage is feuding with Booker. Does Kaz just go back to Robert Roode? 'Cause that would make the whole FftR tournament look like kind of a waste.

Nevertheless. Pretty good match -- Kaz looked good -- Angle won with a weird sort of rollup.

--K

If anybody plans on watching the replay then definitely skip to the last half hour, unless you just have nothing to do at all. I'm looking forward to the Christian/Booker feud. I don't know maybe people see them as WWE castoffs but they're actually the two that weren't castoff but actually chose to go to TNA.

I'm oddly looking forward to the main event too. I know Nash and Hall wrestling is going to be ugly but I'll get a kick out of seeing them wrestle one more time (unfortunately I have a feeling they will wrestle more than just one more time). Plus just let Joe and AJ wrestle the first 10 minutes or so and it will be good.

What to do with Kaz? Christopher Daniels isn't busy. Not sure he's a relevant main eventer but he's at least in between the main eventers and the rest of the roster. Would be a good match too.

Great main event, it reminded me of HHH-TAKA back in the day. But if they were serious about Kaz hanging with the big dogs, they would have named him Hall and Nash's partner.

No matter who calls him a WWE reject, Booker now gives me another reason to catch Impact.

Wasn't Daniels supposed to move up the card when he started his feud with Sting?
Is something wrong with him (injuries) or did he have some backstage issues or something?
They totally talked him (and the returning XXX) up a few months ago but now? nothing.

I actually watched the second hour last night. (I haven't watched TNA in like six months.)

Thoughts:

-Awesome Kong is one big bitch. I can see where the Glamazon stole her wardrobe from.
-I was wondering if Sharmell signed her name: "Sharmell T"
-nice promos from Booker and Cage. I wouldn't be surprised if they officially changed his name to Booker T-N-A
-how the hell can they get away with such blatan rip-offs of their old music. I know, I know, copyrights and all that, all you have to do is change it a bit, but COME ON...
-The main event was really good, but after a while, I began to notice something that I read someone brought up a while ago about the quick scene changes. Seriously. My head began to hurt. To the point where I probably won't watch much of this crap again.
-Hall really shouldn't be in the ring amy more. When they got attacked, he jsut fellt o the floor. He can't sell any more. Christ, he's in the shape I'M in, and that ain't good.
-I still get a kick out of seeing Jeremy Borash as his brother is a good friend of mine. I used to be in a band with his brother back in the day when JB was just breaking into the biz, and his bro was telling me all about it and me being the wreslitng freak that I was, totally dug that shit. His mom and dad came to my wedding, too. Actually have a pic of his mom and I dancing to prove it. BRUSH WITH GREATNESS!

(I mean that in the best possible way as his mom and dad are wonderful, great people.)

Booker's original music is either public demain or available on the cheap, I forget which. (Its name is like Generic R&B #34.) There will be no lawsuit.

Having Joe on the team as the worker is fine, but this also means that he's going to be the one playing Ricky Morton, and that's not the right role for a big-/bad-ass Samoan.

The question about Kaz is, is his push-and-almost-win something that will last (or at least try to last, like Shelton after beating HHH), or is this something that will be forgotten a week later (like Lethal after taking on Jarrett)? First sign will be his PPV opponent, or if he has an opponent.

X-E's co-Worst Poster of all time! JKyle.com says:

Actually, Shelley and Nash fired Johnny Devine, which led to him becoming Havok which gives him motivation to turn on them.

Not that the announcers mentioned that, but it's a startling show of continuity.

Not sure what's going on with Daniels. I thought his match with Sting was kind of disappointing and maybe they weren't sure he could wrestle the Heavyweights but there was never anything reported about it.

They did the Triple X thing but never really did anything with it, two PPVs ago he wrestled Lethal for the X title but I haven't seen him since. Haven't heard anything about an injury so I guess they just don't have anything for him to do.

Maybe Kaz could be the X Division's savior and TNA would have some more accidental continuity with Havoc and Kaz being former teammates in Raven's group.

Daniels and Senshi were in Japan the weekend of the Genesis PPV. They were wrestling on the 11/11 NJPW show. The last time we saw Daniels on TV was assisting in the MCMG beatdown on Team 3D on the second to last Impact before Genesis.

The way I see it, Sting can't keep up with Daniels, and booking totally screwed him on that feud. Booking promptly screwed the XXX reunion as well. Daniels can't wrestle heavyweights? I'd hardly consider Sting a top of the line heavyweight competitor. Samoa Joe on the other hand who Daniels has had countless excellent bouts with . . .

Impact was OK, not a great show, still littered with problems. Production values for TNA are nil, and they have outgrown the Impact Zone. Impact Zone is not a bad place, but at this point, it's ridiculous they are still there every week and almost every month.

I noticed it. I don't know how THQ feels about it, but if THQ wants to buy ad time on SpikeTV I guess they just can. Chances are people who watch Impact also play SVR. Keep in mind whenever WWE and TNA are on at the same time, half of TNA's audience will switch to whatever WWE is airing.

TNA's idea of good promotion is paying Pacman Jones $250K and getting tons of "free publicity" out of it.

I again lament another lost chance to turn Sonjay evil and let him cut loose. I don't care about Devine/Havok at all, and they'll have to do a lot to make his turn significant. Ray continues to be gold on the mic. He is carrying this angle.

Can I confess I completely forgot about Samoa Joe, and his last-second run-in made me laugh aloud? I don't care to see Angle share a ring with the Outsiders, and I don't care to see Styles eat the Razor's Edge and the Jacknife, and I'm frankly bored with Angle/Joe. So what can I hope to see here? Not much. I'm dismal over this alignment of names.

Cage/Booker, though, will be fun.

What surprises me about the Kong angle is how genuinely attractive her opponents are. They can eat a bump, and wear tight outfits, and that may be the limit of their skills, but they're easy on the eyes. Kong's Torture Rack slam is EVIL.

I like the spectrum of events in TNA: the women's title match, the fight against the champ, the alignment of world and tag champs, the cruiserweights vs. the bully tag team, and the blood spectacle of Abyss vs. Mitchell. I just wish the presentation of them worked better for me. How many times will Abyss win a match only to get clocked by Black Reign? Get the pin and leave the ring, idiot.
