I missed the last half hour; I reserve the right to have MORE OPINIONS after I catch the Saturday replay.

Man, Kurt Angle is one of my favorite wrestlers, but he's getting to be a bit much even for me. He spent the show "interrogating" various wrestlers to try and find out who Sting's mystery partner is. Okay -- there was some funny stuff, with him and Jeremy Borash smoking cigars and playing the tough guys. Here are some highlights:

Jay Lethal is telling Kurt about how he fought the Ultimate Warrior in front of "a million people":
Kurt, wide-eyed:"Then what happened?"
Borash gets Kurt back on topic -- "who's Sting's mystery partner?"
Lethal: "Wahoo McDaniel?"

Robert Roode, advising Kurt on women: "You gotta wear the pants in the family! Understand?"
Kurt, writing on clipboard: "...pants..."
Roode: "Speaking of women, where's your wife?"
Kurt: "Karen?"
Roode: "No, your other wife. YEAH, KAREN."

Chris Harris, leafing through pages of transcripts: "Oh, here you are again, Kurt: 'I really don't appreciate the way the same guys are featured on Impact every single week!' Oh, here we go again. Kurt Angle: 'I don't appreciate the way your family drama ends up on Impact every week!'"
Kurt: "I'm supposed to be interrogating you!"

Borash, interrogating Angel and Talia: "I want you to know one thing. This isn't about you and me, Angel. This isn't about you and me, Talia. This is about...the three of us."
Kurt: "What the hell are you talking about?"
Borash offers them his hotel room key if they tell him who the Mystery Partner is. They say they'll whisper in his ear, but they knee him in the groin and leave him doubled over in pain.
Kurt, tapping Borash on the shoulder: "What'd they say?"

Other quick notes:

Shelley and Sabin hiding 3D's tables was pretty awesome. I dunno about the part where the X Division can just about hold their own if they attack en masse. MMG vs. 3D at Genesis should be...interesting?

Holy God, Kong KILLED Hemme. She CRUSHED her FACE with a backfist and then made Hemme KICK HERSELF IN THE HEAD.

Pretty alright Samoa Joe/Gail Kim vs. Robert Roode/Miss Brooks match. Brooks is always a little better than I expect her to be, here hitting a gutwrench suplex, then a drop toehold into the ropes followed by a double knee to the back.

The most exciting part of the match happened after the match -- and during the commercial -- with Roode throwing Joe FOREHEAD FIRST into the POINT of the steps, and Joe GUSHES blood. This could he been a LOT more effective if it wasn't put into a rushed recap before getting back to Kurt's comedy stylings.

Dustin Rhodes looks worse without the makeup!

And about Sting's mystery opponent: According to Sting, he's held "world championships" everywhere he's been, "including WWE and WCW" -- that leaves out RVD, right? And Sting says he's "worked with Kurt before" -- that leaves out Sid Vicious, I think. Who's left? Booker T, Big Show, Ric Flair -- assuming they're going outside the company. Chris Jericho if "Cruiserweight" counts as a "world title." Scott Steiner, I guess, if they're not going outside TNA (boring!). Who else? Scott Hall? X-Pac?

And that's all I saw.

Nine! NINE SEGMENTS! Even in his worst days, I didn't have to see NINE Triple H segments in a two-hour show. It was beyond overkill. And that's without mentioning the numerous dated references. Wahoo McDaniel? Powers of Pain? Shockmaster? What year is this again?

As for the former WWE/WCW champion that's supposed to be Sting's partner, common logic would say that Scott Hall's a distraction and it's actually Booker T. I don't think anyone else would fit the "champion" description quite like him. Worst case scenario, though, it turns out to be Sid Vicious, just to REALLY warp us all back to 1999 WCW.

The first Undisputed World Champion? That most definitely counts as a former WCW/WWE champion. But as cool as it would be to watch him turn up on TNA after he's been endlessly hyped on Raw, it won't happen. And if by some incredibly small chance it IS Jericho, I guarantee they won't have him under contract and he'll STILL turn up on Raw by the end of the month. If TNA was dumb enough to let Rikishi run wild over their roster without having him under contract, they're dumb enough to do just about anything.

Go out of your way to catch that main event with LAX/Styles & Tomko. It came damn close to saving this week's abomination of a show.

Ohhh I completely forgot that they could count that as "WCW." (I agree with you that it totally won't be him.)

The mention of the Kong/Hemme match reminds me that I wanted to say, since I never got around to doing a post about going to the most recent SHIMMER tapings, that anyone who is enjoying Kong's work in TNA will definitely want to get Vol. 15 of SHIMMER when it comes out on dvd, as there is a Kong vs. Sara Del Rey match on there that will knock your socks off.

I seems like it would be Booker, but it will probably be Sid.

Crucify me, but I still dig Angle. And Sting.

Why wouldn't it be Steiner? He's been a wwe and wcw champ (tag) and I am sure he's fought Warrior somewhere. I think Sid would be more likely to hold out for WWE, hoping they need a savior.

I only caught the last half hour (I usually Tivo the Saturday replay), but the LAX vs. Styles/Tomko was probably one of the best matches I've seen in a while. Please.. more of this.

Also, is ECW included in the "has held championships in all the major promotions" bit? Or are they just referring to WCW and WWE/F?

If the "mystery partner" does indeed turn out to be Scott Hall, then Sting just cemented himself as the most gullible person in the world and probably doesn't deserve the title. :/

Hall only held the WCW World Tag title, unless they count the "World" TV title he dumped in the trash. He was only IC champ in the WWF.

Steiner would be more disappointing than Sid, at least we haven't seen him in years. We KNOW Steiner sucks now.

Actually Steiner has stepped up his game, I enjoyed the Team 3D feud. But I doubt it will be him because I believe they are feuding with Tomko/Styles next (if they didn't already start the feud this week, I missed Impact).

Speaking of Scott Hall, anybody seen him lately? They said on Between the Ropes this week that he's actually gotten back into shape. I have to admit even though I'm scared how bad his wrestling might be these days I always get a kick out of a Scott Hall appearance.

Steiner's promos have been great, but his in ring work hasn't even come close to matching that quality.

A one off appearance for Hall, in a non wrestling capacity would be cool. Actually, he would be perfect if used like they used Nash over the last year. He would make a great manager, if there was such a thing anymore.

Have you watched the last 20 years of Sting's career? He gets turned on more than a light switch.

I think someone forgot to tell the production crew, management, and booking that they have two hours now. TNA Impact doesn't feel like a 2 hour show. It feels like two 1 hour editions of Impact run together. The editing for the show is terrible. They still rush through every segment, while trying to cram in as many guys in one show as possible since most guys are paid for appearance and if they don't appear they don't get paid.

Angle was in like 9 stupid segments this week.

TNA cuts out during the most interesting parts. They go to commercial during the Joe/Roode brawl which could actually sell their PPV match. And then they cut after the tag team title main event match just as the Steiners are coming out to attack someone and cut to Kurt Angle in the back. Seriously what the hell? How can it even sink in for the audience when they don't even show what's happening?

Yeah, the Stomko/LAX match was pretty nice. I'd rather get that on PPV than the match we seem to be getting (are LAX going to be at Genesis at all?) -- I was expecting (and hoping) that Rick Steiner would go away after the 3D feud.

Yeah, they could've gotten the Angle point across with maybe half the number of interrogation scenes -- or, at least, they could have edited down the ones they had to be half as long -- there were funny bits, but maybe not enough to justofy all of them.

I still see speculation about who the Mystery Partner is, so I'm assuming that Hall is eliminated as a suspect next week...?

I tell myself that I am enjoying Impact more than Voodoo Kin Mafia fans are right now, and that makes me feel a little warmer inside.
