| #1 Posted on 10.10.08 0522.21 | Instant Rating: 8.00 | Christian Cage is here -- he knows we're wondering what side he'd going to pick. Booker T is out because he is wondering, too. (Have I mentioned that Booker T has had a steel briefcase with him the last few weeks? No one knows what's in it! Ten bucks says "no one" includes the writers. Twenty says it ends up on a pole by the end of the year.)
AJ Styles is out, too, representing the young guns. They fuss about and the upshot is that Jim Cornette sets up a match for tonight -- Booker T vs. AJ Styles, with Cage as the special referee. Cornette says that this will "settle everything" -- why he thinks that I'm not sure.
Rhino vs. "Cute" Kip: This is exactly what you'd expect -- take that how you like. Kip has the Beautiful People with him, and they prove to be the difference makers when Velvet Sky sprays hairspray in Rhino's eye's, allowing Kip to gore Rhino through a table.
(I've said before that I think being a valet for the Beautiful People is the best use of Kip in some time, but at some point someone must realize that what they're paying him [reportedly a considerable amount, and more than they were paying Gail Kim {but I have no reputable sources for this}] isn't worth it for a valet and occasional bottom-of-the-card wrestler. Even though I think it's a decent role for Kip, it'd be even better for a young up-n-comer [Truitt Fields, say], and getting a win over Rhino would actually mean something.)
After the match, Kip and the gals start a beatdown, but ODB and Rhaka Khan run down with steel chairs to chase them off. I admit to some surprise that this pairing is continuing -- I guess that's a face turn for Khan. Huh. Anyway, this will lead to a 6-person tag match at Bound for Glory.
Sonjay Dutt vs. Jay Lethal vs. Consequences Creed vs. Petey Williams: This is a #1 Contender's match; winner will take on Abdul Bashir at BfG. Some fun stuff, although too short. There's a couple of nice moves, at least. Creed wins with a backslide on Dutt -- what, no rollup? IT'S A NEW DAY IN THE X DIVISION
Not even Mick Foley can get me to watch Karen's Angle.
Here's a video promo by Mongo McMichael -- he's the special referee for the Monster's Ball match at BfG. Whatta lunkhead!
Beer Money vs. Abyss & Matt Morgan: This is non-title. James Storm is wearing a mini-keg around his neck on a chain -- ah ha ha! Anyway, Matt Morgan continues to bore me and his team with Abyss just isn't jelling in any useful way. I'm not sure what they're going for there. Oh hey, Robert Roode hits Lance Storm's rolling single-leg Boston Crab -- what did Lance call that? The Maple Leaf? Nice -- I like it when Canadians use "Canadian Moves." Morgan hits his bicycle kick to the face -- the "Carbon Footprint," heh -- on Roode, but Storm catches him with an enziguri. Storm goes after Abyss with a beer bottle, but Abyss snags the Black Hole Slam and that's it. Not too bad, actually!
Mike Tenay informs us that Karen Angle is "stepping aside" to spend more time with her kids. Great news -- TNA has plenty of people whose only job is to talk. Speaking of which, here's Mick Foley! He is wearing a brown corduroy jacket because Brother Ray has "bastardized" the red & black flannel look. Kurt Angle and Jeff Jarrett are out to discuss their match at BfG. JJ says that it was a mistake to hire Kurt in the first place. Angle tells Jeff to go home and tell his three little girls that Angle apologizes to them...because daddy won't be coming home after Bound for Glory. (I was cringing in anticipation of Angle saying they'd be orphans -- perhaps surprisingly, they don't go that way.)
Awesome Kong & Raisha Saeed vs. Roxxi & Taylor Wilde: This is in anticipation of the Kong vs. Roxxi vs. Wilde match at BfG. Saeed's wrestling outfit is actually pretty chic, with the crimson crushed velvet jacket and all. Roxxi accidentally kicks Wilde in the head and takes her out, then tries to Voodoo Drop Saeed but that gets interrupted by Kong -- Kong hits the Implant Buster on Roxxi and that's it. Nothing earth-shaking, but the best Knockout match on Impact since Gail Kim left.
Booker T vs. AJ Styles: Christian Cage is the referee. This is okay, with Styles doing some nice dodging and reversal-type stuff to keep Booker on his toes. Booker (barely) gets Styles over in a bridging German suplex, and they do that thing where AJ gets the shoulder up but Booker's are still counted as being down, so AJ wins.
Booker is mad at Cage, so Cage clotheslines him out of the ring. AJ is all "ha ha he's MY friend" but then Cage clotheslines Styles, too! Christian Cage is an island!
Jim Cornette is out, somehow baffled that everything isn't "settled," and he books them in a three-way dance at Bound or Glory!
Samoa Joe and Sting (and a podium) are out now with Cornette, to sign the contract. They both, apparently, insisted that a clause be added: no matter who wins, there will be NO REMATCH. They both sign. They shake hands...and Samoa Joe HEADBUTTS Sting, ha ha! They brawl and the curtain drops for another week.
Pretty good show, and Bound for Glory looks like it could be a winner.

He is a pretty big name in Chicago sports history, with a wrestling career too. It makes sense, and is good enough for an undercard match like this. Too bad they couldn't get Brian Urlacher though, he made an appearance for them a few years ago. Plenty of the Cubs are available right now as well. ; )
Good show this week, just like Raw. Now if only SD! can deliver, it will be a solid week for TV wrestling.

He's reportedly under a six month contract (which would have started right after September 1, presumably).

There was a point where he was MIA, but he's been an occasional/weekend radio personality around Chicago for the last 4-5 years.

Mongo also has experience with briefcases. He should totally be Booker T's opponent when he eventually has that briefcase on a pole match Karlos was talking about.

I didn't think it was that hard to understand. Joe isn't the general manager is he? Cornette can make whatever matches he wants so he can force Joe to give Sting another title shot or Sting can win a Number One Contenders match and get another title shot. Joe doesn't have the power to just say, that guy never gets a title shot. Now he does if he wins. He doesn't care to have a rematch if he loses because he doesn't think he is going to lose. Plus it's a good heel tactic and mind games, I think you're reaching for straws by saying he looks stupid for doing this.

That....makes no sense. "I'm so great that if I lose, I'll never face you again!" That's not smart, that's cocky and heelish. A strong face champion would say you know what? Have all the rematches you want - I'll beat yuo every time."

Sometimes people only get one shot anyways. If it's the super bowl of wrestling, why get more than one shot? You don't get "rematches" in the real super bowl.
EDIT: Also, hasn't Joe always been kind of a cocky guy to begin with?
