...would there be people coming to message boards and posting about how Hercules is floundering in the mid-card under Hulk Hogan's glass ceiling and he should be in the World Title picture rather than curtain jerking a house show? Or how Dino Bravo is a one dimensional character who's ring work sucks and should be shipped to the training facility to improve? Or how The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers should be going after the Tag Titles rather than feuding pointlessly with The Bushwackers?

Probably. The best thing for a business is to have a place for dissatisfied customers to complain. Most internet fans who bitch are saveable. The rest of the audience didn't log online and didn't complain, they just left and are never coming back.

Classic Rock
"Remember the commercial, that Indian had the tear in his eye for pollution? He wasn't crying for pollution, you took his land and ****ed his wife! I don't think he was crying cause there was a ****ing can on the ground ... You can **** my wife but that can's gotta go!"

"I used to work making minimum wage came up to about $200 a week and then they'd take out $50 in taxes ... Fifty dollars a week in taxes? What do I get for my tax money? All the free street light in the world! Yeah, as far as I'm concerned you can give everybody a candle and give me my ****ing fifty dollars back!"

People would definitely have speculated as to why Steamboat dropped the IC title to the Honky Tonk Man after a short reign as champ.

Uh, dude, there was and they were... They called it Rec.sport.pro-wrestling and your benevolent dictator, CRZ, and many of his cronies were on there, do many of the things you're talking about.

Like this exchange from 1990
Lots of guessing going on about who Hulk Hogan will lose his belt
too..

I have a different twist... If Hulk Hogan does face the Ultimate
Warrior in WM VI (as some people think) why does the Ultimate
Warrior have to turn heel? ( I know that's the way it usually goes
but...) How about the 2 men meet and they both put up their belts,
winner takes all?

ah, memories

But before THAT, there was fidonet. And RIME. Which is where I hung out.

Yeah, we talked about Hulk Hogan and his damn Orange powerglow body back in the day. and many other subjects,

I seem to remember TA Magnum being a big topic in RIME.

Now, is it ok for me yell THEATRE! in a crowded fire?

It's funny. Reading some old Observers, the smart-marks really HATED WWF in the '80s. I can only imagine the IWC ripping WWF apart about pushing guys like Hulk Hogan, King Kong Bundy, Ultimate Warrior, Brutus Beefcake, etc., while Dynamite Kid languished in the mid-card.

The answer to WWE's financial problems...

Never 'Wiener of the Day', and is actually quite bitter about it.

There's a difference between the internet and the world wide web. The latter, which didn't come around until the 90s is responsible for the news sites and message boards we post on. People still were still able to cyber-communicate with each other before that through e-mail and usenet and whatever other things, I wasn't involved as I was too young and too poor for a home computer.

Got to say, If you haven't checked out those google archive of RSPW your missing out. I read them chronologically til I got up to 95ish, and it ended up being overran by old-school marks from AOL. My wrestling IQ went up 10 points without shuffling hundreds of bucks for back issues of the observer.

Alot of the stuff you'd expect; Ultimate Warrior can't work, WWF is a circus, why don't they do something with 'wrestler X'. But it was much more professional than anywhere today, maybe because you didn't have everyone fitting trying to fit into these category's of wrestling fans (or people in general on the net).

a) Knowledge of Aristotle/Freud + obscure pop culture references = Self Proclaimed Genius (Asshole) b) Howard Stern wannabe(Dickhead) or C) 'ummmmm' Captain Snarky (bitch).

If that's how people felt then probably yeah. I really don't know how much I buy into individuals being totally influenced what a top 3 known writers on the net says. If it's a writer I like & grow to respect his opinions I'll take what he/she says into consideration. But am I going to change my opinion on it? No. I don't think I'm necessary special or unique, I think most people decide does Wrestler A entertain me, Yes or No. And decide from there... I was a Hogan fan in the 80's, Hogan fan in WCW and was happy to see Hogan in The E & when he was released last year, must say I was a little saddened. I'm seeing some bad IWC press on Kurt Angle these days being a politician, but I don't think it influences me because I still like they guy & entertained by his work by and large.

It's funny thinking back, how it wasn't that different. But instead of me talking to my school friends of my likes and dislikes on what's happening in wrestling I'm talking on a message board now too. I fully remember saying how entertaining the Rougeau's were & even if they are bad guys they are so much fun to watch... I also complained on why my favorite jobber Jim Powers or his tag team Young Stallions always lost! And I remembering how bored I was watching Haku. I didn't know all the smarky terms but I knew there was something about Haku push that made me not like it, but it wasn't the normal badguy dislike but more of a I don't care about this guy kind of dislike lol.

smark/net attack wienerville advisory is raised to ORANGE alert - High (Benoit lost the title to some punk kid named Orton, lets look at the positive at least it's a heel not named HHH who has the title, which allows two fresh faces battling for the World title.. whaat? excuse me? what happened on Raw! well scratch that... Over to Smackdown we wave at Justin Bradshaws title reign, I think I'm getting sea sick)- 8/22

If message boards like The W were around, there would have been a lot of online fans raving about Bam Bam Bigelow. And I imagine there would have been A LOT of outrage after his early exit in the WM IV tournament.

Poor Bam Bam. So much potential and no one realized it until it was too late.
