| #1 Posted on 2.3.03 1453.29 | If NWA-TNA was on TBS, what ratings do you think the show would be pulling? I think with a bit of promotion, it would be pulling a 1.0 rating on a Wednesday night.
I hear Ted Turner wants back his TBS, CNN, etc, I really hope Turner goes back to his roots and puts wrestling on the air, NWA-TNA would be a perfect fit. And if he could pump some money into the promotion, that would make NWA TNA a more viable competitor for the WWE.
I'm sick of this WWE monopoly, I'd do anything for someone to dethrone them, and if anyone can do it, a Turner funded NWATNA can do it. Ted Turner is wrestling's only hope to end the WWE rule. | Promote this thread! | | Cerebus

| #3 Posted on 2.3.03 1500.33 | They'd be lucky to draw ECW on TNN numbers. They have no real mainstream stars to draw in non and casual fans. They've got some mildly big stars (Jeff Jarrett, older guys like Vader, Dusty), but nobody that is easily recognizable.
So they get fans like us, if they're lucky, and maybe some WWE fans who are looking for wrestling. But, that's probably it.
They're certainly not in any position to overthrow the WWE "monopoly".

| #4 Posted on 2.3.03 1540.00 | Yeah, they would be extremely lucky to get ECW on TNT numbers which peaked out at a 1.4 and averaged about a 1.0. Believe it or not, those numbers were above average for a cable series! I would say maybe an . 2 or .3 to start. Don't know how much credence the name NWA holds anymore. Not much I can assure you. It will draw older fans and Net Fans at first expecting to see old school wrestling. The Network will need to be very patent with it, which will be a hard virtue to find. They will also need to get behind finacailly which will be harder. This will have ot be unlike ECW on TNN, but not to the incredible extent of WCW on TBS!
However, If done correctly with a unique product that doesn't try to beat WWE, but instead tries to be an Alternative to WWE, it could be very successful. You can't beat WWE at it's game, but as WCW found out you can change the rules. WWF found this out to through ECW when they were getting there ass kicked, and that why they are on top.

| #5 Posted on 2.3.03 1649.34 | If NWA-TNA was provided with the old Saturday Night timeslot (6:05-8:05 et.), and had semi-coherant booking, a 1.5-1.7 rating would not be out of the realm of possibility. Until the show went completely down the shitter during the dying days of WCW, the timeslot would pull a solid rating. With proper promotion and good enough matches, the 1.5-1.7 after a few months would be a reasonable estimate.

The Turner stations can't put on pro wrestling until 2006. One of the agreements in the buy-out of WCW.

Is there any credible indication that Turner WOULD start putting out a wrestling promotion after whatever imposed deadline expires?

This was the hope: When Ted announced he was leaving AOL/Time Warner, the thought process of some was that he was going to buy back for himself some of his old toys (Braves, CNN, TBS). And, since Turner always stated wrestling was one of the cornerstones in building TBS, naturally it would be assumed wrestling would be on his airwaves. However, it now appears none of that will occur, as Ted lost billions in the decline of AOL/Time Warner stock over the past few years. Combining that with the billion he's donated to the U.N., the hefty cost of buying back these assets, and his age (mid 60's), it now appears Turner will just open up Buffalo Burger (or whatever they call them) stands throughout the country and remain the largest landholder in the U.S.

| #12 Posted on 3.3.03 1432.32 | NWATNA is about as horrible as WCW was near the end. It's not much longer for the world at $10 a PPV. I give the promotion another 6 months and then it's a dust pile.
As far as if it would have gotten ratings on TBS? Maybe if it were on against RAW, so that wrestling fans would have something to turn to during commercials. Otherwise, no. It would bomb the ratings as well. It'd be off the air in less then two months. | Karlos the Jackal

| #14 Posted on 4.3.03 0104.38 | Would TNA pull in ECW on TNN numbers? Most definitely.
But the important thing is, they CANNOT immediately throw in the towel. The following will come slowly, but I truly believe it WILL EVENTUALLY come. The key is not giving up and not giving up on guys like AJ Styles and Ron Killings.
I believe wrestling fans WOULD eventually get so jaded with Raw that they'd watch TNA on TBS. That's why Jerry Jarrett NEEDS to keep the search for TV deal going.
