New Line Cinema and Marvel Comics have plans to bring Iron Man to the big screen in 2005.

New Line originally bought the movie rights to the comic in 2000, hoping to have Tom Cruise or Nicolas Cage star. The film will be written by Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Iron Man is "the story of Tony Stark, inventor and owner of Stark Enterprises. His work in corporate espionage and international terrorism leads to an accident that forces him to go on life support in the form of a high-tech bodysuit. This also gives him an alternate identity, Iron Man, a being capable of a heroism Tony Stark could not achieve."

Well, this is something I can get excited about. I love the whole premise of Iron Man and think Tony Stark is a great character.

I'm up for it, if he brings War Machine along for the ride.

Sounds OK- but I think Marvel really needs to SLOW DOWN on the movie releases. I know X-Men and Spider-man rocked, but now we are getting waaaaaaay too many at once. That is bound to lead to crap like Steel (I know, DC, but similar scenario).
Save Iron Man for a few years- I am happy enough with my X-Men 2 and Hulk.. well, maybe Daredevil, we will see....

Not that restraint when posting in a "public" forum isn't a good thing...

From reading that blurb, I see they already ruined his origin. This is possibly the ONLY comic book role I want to see Nic Cage get, cause he's make a good Tony Stark if he grows the mustache.

Well I can see this coming in about 2005 or 2006 because I think marvel has a full slate already. They have 3 movies for this year and Spider-Man 2 next year and possible a possible Elektra spin-off if Daredevil does well,so I think Iron Man is a long time away.

And maybe a resurrected Timothy Dalton will play Tony Stark. :)

Nic Cage as Iron Man would be funny.

IT's Tony Stark in Leaving Las Vegas.

I think Avi Arad mentioned that he wants Tom Cruise to play Tony Stark. And there have been rumors of Cruise being interested in the role before...I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan, but he kind of fits the Tony Stark, I guess archetype. Stark is very similar to the David Aames character Cruise played in VANILLA SKY.

My default choice for every comic book role is Hugh Jackman, but I guess that's not very realistic. If New Line and Marvel wanted a kind of younger Tony Stark I would say maybe Jude Law or Christian Bale. But New Line wants Iron Man to be a franchise, and I don't think those 2 would sign to multiple sequels. I guess Nicholas Cage is a decent choice if they wanted Stark to be a little older. However I probably wouldn't mind even if they cast Matt Damon or even an unknown. What about Clive Owen?

Clive Owen would make a good Havok, when the X-Movies get around to his character. Matt Damon is PERFECT fo Johnny Storm. Timothy Dalton used to be my pick for Tony Stark, back when he almost single-handedly ruined the James Bond franchise, but now, I could see him as the Red Skull to Jude Law's Captain America... NO, I do NOT smoke crack! I do think Jude Law would make a pretty good Cap though.

Yes, I am just one movie away from Secret Wars. If they do Capt. American, then we are all set for Secret Wars in 2009. FF is in the planning stages and should be out next year as well Spidy 2 and probably Elektra. I think they should really focus on Tony's battle with the bottle and heart condition. Other than that he really is an unsympathitic character, I'd expect Madrin to be his first villian which should be cool.

A Fan- Man, I just hope Marvel doesn't DC themselves out with all of these movies.

The only way I mark out for Secret Wars is if Hasselhoff plays the beyonder. Think about it.

He'd be pulling double duty, since he'd have to reprise his Nick Fury for the masses.

And how about Trish to play Sue Richards?

And Matt Damon as Johnny Storm and a CGI Thing but I have no idea who'd be Mr. Fantastic.

. . uhm, no he didn't. I don't remember him starring in "The Man With The Golden Gun," which came closest to torpedoing the Bond franchise. Blame MGM filing a lawsuit against EON for the 7-year gap between "Licence" and "Goldeneye." Dalton did rather well for the Bond franchise.

Dalton looks the part (he did in "The Rocketeer," anyways) but he's too intense to play Stark. For Stark you need someone smooth and confident and sort of lighthearted if you want to capture the definite Iron man, which for me is the Layton/Michelinie years.

Will Ferrell could be a great Mr. Fantastic. Also, isn't Cage also Ghost Rider? And this may cause some debate, but if DC had tried and gone with the comic book Steel, it could have been good......

Fury wasn't in Secret Wars for very long, so I'd write Fury out and cast him as Beyonder. Of course, I'd never really cast Hasselof in any movie, so I go to my first pick as Beyonder, Christopher Walken.

I take it we are joking around if we really think Will Ferrell and Trish can play the First Marvel couple. I would like to see FF hit the screen, but I'm already hearing that the budget is going to be very limited. I guess they cut out the opening scene in the script where the FF fights the huge monster from issue 1. Apperantly, they are going to do the origin in flashbacks instead of seeing them become the FF which makes sense since it is one of the lamer comic book origins and the team chemistry is what drives the story anyway and not the powers. I did hear that Dr. Doom was in it and Mole Man as well, but I think the Mole Man rumor is just from someone who saw the first script to disasterous FF film.

A Fan- I did hear the first film had some cool costumes and ok plot, of course, I'll believe when I see it.
