What's a quick & easy way to transfer purchased songs from one computer to another?

Uh....copy them. A USB thumb drive is probably the easiest way.

If you're still worried about DRM, you should be able to log into iTunes on your new computer and add it to your list of authorized devices.

Digital Rights Management is the "protection" on the old .m4p files. (But I don't think it's a factor if you have .m4a files.)

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.14 on my laptop, and for some reason, I'm prone to clicking on links right after hitting Alt-Tab, thereby Alt-clicking. Which, I'm sure we all know, immediately downloads the link.
