I thought Michaels/Taker, Cena/Batista, Edge/Jericho, MITB, HHH/Sheamus, Rey/Punk, and Orton/DiBiase/Rhodes all had good matches and only Bret/Vince sucked. I think the "one classic match" critique would apply more to last year's Mania.

I think that's the annoying thing about the Cole stuff. At first it seemed like it was building to something and Cole would get to a good heel role, but as time goes on I think they're just having fun with Cole being an obnoxious heel PBP guy and think it's groundbreaking or something.

The problem with Mania this year is it had a ton of expectations and HBK/Taker was the only one that delivered. Everything else could have or was eventually done better after Mania. The matches were just bland. It was the best hyped Mania in years and then died mid-way through. I do agree the big 4 this year were a little underwhelming.
Cole as the evil lead announcer has gotten to the point where it was fun at first now its getting annoying. Lawler has that problem too at times, but has come back a little after the burial of Booker T in WM X-9. They have to either get Cole to be the GM and get JR in there or tone down Cole when its when it comes to Miz and Bryan.

| #23 Posted on 22.11.10 1320.37 | Instant Rating: 3.37 | Lance Storm wrote in his blog about how a big problem with PPV now is that they are used to build Raw and Smackdown instead of the other way around. This is what happened in the Main Event. There should have been some kind of big payoff to this angle here, instead we have to watch to find out what's going to happen, so whats the point of buying PPV's if all you are going to miss is some good to great matches? If I had paid for Survivor Series I would feel jipped right now. The main angle had no real payoff. Cena is "fired" we think, but maybe Barrett/ the GM/ or somebody else will change their mind. Randy Orton is still champion, but all people care about is what's happening to Cena. Not great booking.
The rest of the PPV was fairly good though Bryan/Dibiase, Ziggler/Kaval were great, I'm loving the great wrestling going on in the secondary title divisions. It reminds me of when I was younger and the intercontinental title was usually always a good match.
The Diva's match was good for what it was. Glad to have Beth back, and I can't to see the eventual match between her and Natalya.
The Survivor Series match was great. Except for MVP being eliminated so early in his hometown. The stuff with Cody was great, and I hope he somehow gets a rule in place where he is not allowed to be hit in the face, which could put him in a great feud with Show who no longer would be able to use his knockout punch. Del Rio not being eliminated, will be good for his character.
Edge/Kane was meh, but this was a match where a decisive ending would have hurt the booking.
Overall the show was good, but could have been a lot better.

Of course, if the ppvs were compelling, you could reverse that.

You know one of the reasons that guys like Ventura and Heenan were so good at being heel announcers? They used to always talk about the payday involved with winning matches and titles. They had no problem with the guy who cheated, because he was doing what he had to do to beat the more popular guy who sucks up to the fans while getting a bigger payday to do it. They could 'respect that'.
Lawler has it easy, he just has to gush about how great the good guy is.
Cole just seems to stick to chidish name calling and sound making.
I don't know what Striker is doing.

Right, mania going in this year looked like it could be one of the best ever, I think I even said that in the Mania prediction thread, but IMO, only Taker/HBK came close to delivering. To the point that until lotjx listed the matches I couldn't even remember them. And Batista/Cena was a HUGE match going in, and not that match and pretty much entire feud is forgotten. The Big $, especially Mania, were once known for big moments that you talk about for years. Now they are barely talked about for days/weeks

They really could have gone out of the box by having R-Truth chairshot Barrett for the pin to get Cena fired, thus causing an eventual feud between the 2. Since the Midnight Cena or any other masked wrestler might be too scary for a PG audience, watch them go with: Per agreement John, you are fired. Now, since you no longer work for the company, we are offering you an offer of employment. Or Vince comes out to counter the GM etc. | PaulKTF

I hope it isn't over yet as Teddy Long can easily order for a rubber match (since both guys won with a sorta-small package) Kaval displayed some great moves, including some of the airial stuff that I knew he did in the forgotten past.
I do agree that everything until Kane/Edge was good. Even that match wasn't bad but it seemed more like they were just rehearsing and going through moves. There was very little emotion and build in the match.
The problem that was pointed out a few days ago, where the WWE universe is trained to not care until the endgame of a match starts, was the reason the Orton/Cena/Barrett thing never got interesting. When business was about to pick up (and the crowd should've gotten into it) it was over. One shove and that's it? I did like Orton's & Cena's interaction after the match.
A very solid ppv, that lost some momentum due to the slow action/story telling in the two main events.
Oh- the move of the night was the move by Sheamus where he had Morrison on the turnbuckle, and pulled his leg over his shoulder, yanking hard and making Jomo splat on the mat. Awesome. Never seen that.

Juan Cena.
No really, Juan Cena.
(This is likely just for house shows, so that they weren't false advertising, as opposed to TLC being Juan Cena vs Wade Barrett.)
