So I didn't make the switch to Chrome from Firefox forever ago because there were a bunch of little things I had grown accustomed to in Firefox and couldn't personalize in quite the same way in Chrome. Now I'm trying to make the switch and these same things keep coming up. So here are the issues I'm having, and I'm hoping someone here might be able to offer solutions to any/all of them.

1) When clicking on a link to open it in a new tab, I don't want it to jump to the new tab. I want the new tab to open, but I stay on my current tab. I can't find a preference setting for this.

2) I don't know the name of this, but in Mac OS there is a feature allowing you to scroll by putting two fingers on the track pad, and using three fingers will allow you to scroll directly to the top or bottom of a page. However, in Chrome (and Safari, actually), this does not work for me. It did in Firefox. (EDIT: Actually, I doubt this even has anything to do with my operating system, though maybe I'm wrong.)

3) On my bookmarks bar across the top of the screen, all the bookmarks have both the labels I've given them AND little icons. I want the icons gone, because they take up too much space. Is this possible?

That's all I've got for now, though I might encounter more later.

Hopefully this will help. If you Right click on a link and then click on Open link in a new tab. It doesn't work for the bookmark toolbar, though.

On my desktop, I just put the cursor anywhere on the scroll bar and right click, but I don't know about laptops.

I don't know how to remove the icons. You can remove your labels and keep just the icons but that would probably lead to some confusion.

I don't know how much it helps. If it doesn't there are many, many more computer savvy people here.

If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse and click the link with it, it'll open the link in a new tab. CTRL-left click does the same. There's no option to make that the default behavior.

    2) I don't know the name of this, but in Mac OS there is a feature allowing you to scroll by putting two fingers on the track pad, and using three fingers will allow you to scroll directly to the top or bottom of a page. Apparently, they've added this in the latest version of Chrome 14, but only if you've enabled natural scrolling and it works backwards from the way you'd expect.

There's a program that will allow you to define the gestures however you want. Maybe slightly more work.

Looks like people have asked for it and been told no. People have tried the other way - if you can have recognizable icons, you can just delete the text to save space.

Regarding the bookmarks, a workaround which is actually my preference is to just create folders of bookmarks in the bookmark bar. The bar doesn't get too full, there is plenty of space for as many or few bookmarks as you want, and they stay nice and organized.

Depends what kind of ads are bugging you. I've got Flash Block installed.

Thanks for the feedback. Based on cubsfan's answer, looks like I'll be sticking with Firefox.

I think a bit more information is required. It sounds to me like something is hogging your system resources, which is probably why folders are slow and FireFox won't open. Are all your programs running slower than usual? Is it specific applications?
