As I'm sure everyone who is reading this knows, Max Kellerman's new show, I,MAX, debuts tonight on your local Fox Sports Net affiliate at 6 local time. What's everyone expecting, an ATH type show or a more boxing-centric show? We shall see very soon.
I almost think it'll be like a Last Word type show...hell, the guy looks like a puny version of Jim Rome, just without the great takes on sports...as much as I thought he was dispensable on ATH, Reali has done a good job taking over for the show.
I plan on watching though, just to see what he's got...hopefully it'll be entertaining.
The article is a 'comparison' of ESPN's Chris Berman and Kellerman. Towards the end of the article, there's a tidbit on the format for 'I, Max'.
"Berman: "The most important part of the job is to communicate." Kellerman: "This is the ultimate in sports geekery. It's me against the world, and Michael Holley represents the world." The show is scheduled to be 15 rounds of arguments with "10-point must system judging" by celebrity referees."
I caught Around the Horn and PTI before I flipped over and checked out I, Max. The format seems oddly familiar, but I just can't put my finger on why.
My God, this was hard to watch. White guy debates black guy on a series of topics. Host interviews sports figure in the middle segment. Then, the two guys debate questions from e-mailers.
I liked Max with ATH (but anybody can do his job), but the show tonight seemed full of smugness and self-promotion (even more than most ESPN shows), and they basically did ATH/PTI for the whole show. I probably won't watch it again, for I get my fix from ATH and PTI earlier in the evening. Kellerman's going to make some good money, sure, but he's not going to be the next Howard Cosell or anything like that (as the article above seems to indicate). Hell, without good writers, he won't even be the next Jim Rome.
I'd much rather watch Tony and Michael on PTI if I want to see two guys argue about sports. Both of them are at least likable, funny, and they were the first of the whole "argue about sports on weekday afternoons with fancy graphics on the side of the screen and occasional guest stars" guys.
Gravity is a contributing factor in nearly 73 percent of all accidents involving falling objects.
I checked it out too....was hoping he'd get original, instead of just modifying the format from ATH. I saw it once, and never need to see it again. And, the name of the show...blows. They could have thought of something alot better. ATH and PTI, beat this show on it's best day any day.
IT wasnt too bad. I like Kellerman, so I may be a bit biased. But to compare him to Rome, and then say that his show had smugness, is WAY unfair. Rome is the most smug prick on ESPN. I wish Jim Evrett would have beat his ass.

Is Rome still on ESPN? I haven't seen that show in forever.

In the context of baseball, the use of drugs hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, the use of alcohol hurts only the player. In the context of baseball, womanizing hurts whom? Maybe the wife of the player? In the context of baseball, felonies are crimes against society, not against baseball. In the context of baseball, gambling is the only crime against baseball.
Gambling, in the context of baseball, is a capital offense and Rose has richly earned-- hell, he agreed to-- his death sentence. Let him hang.

"Rome is Burning", right? I haven't seen it since last July. I want to say it's on Thursday nights, but don't quote me.
Rome seems to have lightened over the past few years. I remember guys like Marvin Freeman being big news back in the day. But now that he lands respectable, big-name guests, his act has toned down. He's not as negative anymore. That's probably why he throws in the occassional "non-sports take", like the stripper mom or the German sleeping on the roof. No harm in ripping THAT stuff apart.
I still crack up everytime I hear "oooo...unn-beeb-able"
Rome Is Burning airs Thursdays at midnight (ET). But I think I remember hearing there are no new shows until July. Don't know if they are still airing reruns in that time slot or not. Don't think anyone cares.
Imax isvery unoriginal. max's ego is getting out of control, he should have got woody instead of holly. after ath i am basically tired of all the sports talk. TK talks about smug he is thek ing of smug i can't stand him anymore, wilbon is still good. they should fire TK and use dan l. i am tired of the same talk about going to bed early for TK. get some new material. later kids
I'm probably going to go Friday to look around, and Saturday for the Raw Deal tourney, if everybody else I work with didn't ask for the whole weekend off I'd probably try to do the whole thing...
