Hello my name is james i was just wondring what it takes to make it in the wild world of profsional wrestling. i am sure that there are true superstars in this internet site and if you can talk to me abut it i would be happy with you.
Well, aren't we all true superstars in our own way? Who am I kidding, the most I do is running a fake federation based on my videogame.
Anyhow, not that I'm any authority on the matter, but I'd assume that to make it out there, you've got to have an extremely solid foundation in wrestling, one form of legitimate experience or another (wrestling school, amateur wrestling, local/indy feds, etc, nothing illegal, obviously) as far as simply getting noticed goes. After that, it probably comes down to charisma, performing ability inside and out of the ring (working crowds, ring psychology, just putting on a good looking match, working the mic, cutting promos, staying in character, anything to entertain whoever's watching), and a host of various traits that depends on who's hiring.
After that, I guess it's just luck and effort on finding someone or someone finding you, signing you, and seeing where you go from there.
Seeing as my assumptions come from what I'd guess makes sense, don't take any of my word as legit, but that's what I think goes into it all.
Again, my connection to the business is limited but let me get this in before the bitter insults start flying.
First, get a solid base, like Talus. Try ameteur wrestling and boxing. These help a lot as they would hopefully give you some idea of how to form a match. The ameteur wrestling would help you with holds, and the boxing would help you throw some decent-looking punches (which are rare). Also, take an acting class as well, and take this class more seriously than the athletic-based ones. Austin, Rocky, and Hogan were never even in the top ten of any roster they ever inhabited in terms of wrestling ability, but they drew millions between them based on personality. Even Flair is about personality. This man could go with anyone, but he worked the same moves over and over, he called the same spots every night for 20 years and we call him the best of all time. Why? Because he's a performer, he makes the audience feel something. Please, don't be another Benoit or Lance Storm. It's great if you can work, but if there are lawn bowlers more exciting than you you're a waste of my time as a fan.
Do this for, I dunno, a year. Then get into a wrestling school. Get passed this stage and you'll be on your way. When you start wrestling, hopefully another year later, please for the love of god select a name that is interesting. If your real name is Ned Uckleby don't wrestle under that name. If you're not lucky enough to have a sleek, cool-sounding name then pick a fake one. I'm not saying it has to be gimmicky, like "Jack the Electric Goose", but even selecting a fake name like Damon Drake will be a lot more marketable than your real name, which may well be goofy and unpronouncable.
If you give yourself a moniker to go with your name, like Damon "Deadly Impact" Drake please legally change your name to this or at least attain some kind of trademark. You don't want to have to start over. Also, since wrestling the indies is almost certain to run you into debt, you may want to read some books on real estate which, believe me, is the best way to make decent money without working very hard. If you can scrounge together a grand, and continually deposit and withdraw that same grand from a bunch of small banks, you'll be establishing credit. Then you can borrow another grand from all these banks, until you have enough to put a down-payment on a small dumpy house. Then, fix it up, don't RENOVATE, just paint and make it looks decent. Sell it for 10-20 thou more than you paid for it and try to make a killing on these deals. This is great way to work nd make a good chunk of change on the nights you aren't in the ring. Don't expect this kookie biz to pay your bills.
In the ring, I'd advise you to be somewhat original. Once you get comfortable, don't just rip off a bunch of moves. Get creative. Invent new moves. There's like two dozen different suplexes you can do, and a few of them are rarely seen in North America and are less dangerous than a far more commonplace powerbomb or DDT. If you want to get noticed you've got to be unique.
< o'haire > Of course, I'm not telling you anything, you don't already know. < /o'haire >
hope this helps.

If anybody here knew that, they'd have better things to do with their time than bitch about wrestling.
Go to an indy show, talk to the guys afterward. At least one of them is willing to train you, for a sum of money at least. Disect bullshit from fact, find what works for you, and make what works for you work for everybody.
My story with pro-wrestling is sad but true. I may not have been a wrestler, or had training, or any of that... but by golly did I have my ring name! As a huge Tenacious D fan and having a name that starts with Z I told people for 2 years someday I would be Tenacious Z. Until of course... Tenacious Z came along. Now I never will be a wrestler, of course not do to my phyisque, lack of training and acting skills--but because of my name. Sigh.

I'm with Lexus...definitely check out more than one local indy fed around your area. Chances are one of those feds runs its own training school.
Just be prepared to pay (training ain't free), buy some real gear (sweatpants/athletic pants and sneakers label you as a backyarder right away...ask the boys where they get theirs; Highspots.com is not a universal answer), be in shape (established workers will look down on you if you're blowing up in camp, and bad impressions take time to undo), and above all, be ready to pay your dues. Breaking into indy wrestling involves long trips for little or no payday, lugging gear, setting up/taking down the ring, and being shown your place by the boys. Be respectful, ask their input, and listen. Don't just ask "how was my match" hoping to really hear "put me over with praise for the good spots, and ignore the f*ck-ups."
One more thing: I have never come across more petty political games than I have in indy wrestling. But once the business gets in your blood, then it stays there.
Good luck.

Have you ever watched Tough Enough? I'm guessing that is what it takes to make it to the WWE with the exception of the Jackie Gayda factor.
I think Al Snow is opening his own wrestling school in Lima OH. You may want to check it out.
Thank you everyone for your very wise comnets. Ive tryed to call Vince McMann a few times, but he won't return my calls, so now i know where to get answers. I figure by the time i get in he wil have already killed the whole wrestling game.
