I'm flipping through channels looking for the Simpsons when I find on our college subscription plan we get a French channel with subtitles. Seeing the news was on, I decided to watch it and within two minutes was close to throwing my TV out the window and personally beating any Frenchmen within the area. Damn that news report pissed me off more than anything I have seen in a while. I'm a Republican, and sometimes CNN's left-wing slant can bug me, and I'm sure Fox News bugs the liberals like OlFuzzy on this board. But I have NEVER seen any news bull BULLSHIT like this!
France 2's news report about the Iraq war started with showing our troops "moving into position to attack" and then claimed how lax or men were by showing soldiers laughing and hitting golf balls, then it went into a whole "Americans love death" spiel by interviewing some American troops who claim waiting is the hard part and they would rather end the war or just go home. A couple more minutes insulting our troops.... etc. etc. Then they claim that our Congress "Already is planning Post-War policy for Iraq" and saying that our military will "Rule Iraq while every other countries government pays for the rebuilding of the country." Right, so France will pay for rebuilding Iraq.......
Then, for the biggest bullshit of the whole thing, they showed an "Inside look of the Capital" which was only Senators on both sides, Democrat and Republican laughing and backslapping and it zoomed in on Colin Powell laughing and bounching around. Then they interviewed a bunch of French about gas prices and the like. But the view of our government was the biggest load of shit ever. Several minutes of high powered officals on both sides laughing while some idiot French news reporter goes on about how this war has already been decided and how America likes to kill people.
Sorry, we weren't the ones who almost elected basically a Nazi in Le-Pen. Sure, our military may be relaxing in their bases, but they never surrendered and then helped the Nazi's kill Jews in World War II. America never let men like Ayatollah Khumenai (Sp?) stay in our country and herald him as a sort of hero.
The whole piece was 10 minutes of bashing America. If this is what France shows its people, maybe it is time to end NATO and ties with them.... sorry I'm so mad, but I have never seen an American news report showing Chirac and the National Assembly laughing over and over again while they talked about how dumb they are. They made Colin Powell and our whole Congress, once again Democrat and Republican, look like a bunch of idiots. People claim in France they dislike us, but what else can those idiots in the country think when they get 20 minutes of America bashing with cute sounds on their news and books about how our own government caused 9-11. Makes me ashamed that my relatives fought to save these idiots.

Just a reminder about the French military, that the French somehow conveniently forget: They've done shit without a Corsican leading them for the last 300 years.
And, just to counteract an argument CNN always puts on the TV whenever they talk about French/U.S. relations: True, the French government helped the U.S. get its independence. However, that was the absolute monarchy of Louis XVI that helped. Since then, there have been 5 Republics, Three Empires, 2 Bourbon returns to the throne, an ascension to the throne by the House of Orleans, a Commune where the Parisians showed their true fighting spirit by devouring the zoo, and 1 Vichy Government showing the true pride of France. If only they had agreed to let the Comte de Chambord lead a Third renewal of the Bourbon monarchy back in 1873 instead of insisting on retaining the flag of rebellion, perhaps then France would have some pride today. France/Pride, gee not exactly something you'd see everyday.

The only military skill provided by the French is demonstrating the methods of surrendering.

I dunno. When I think about some of the shit I've seen regarding the 'War on Terror' (both pro and anti) in the UK and US media that seems pretty tame by comparison.

The volume of shit I read over here about how France should back us cos we bailed them out of WWII is unreal.

Equally upsetting me right now is just about any article written by a leading Christian putting the 'moral case' for peace and love.

But I digress. The French do indeed smell somewhat odd and are worthy of our ridicule

I, as a Canadian, find it hilarious that the French surrender at the drop of a hat but seem to be horribly hateful towards the United States, who don't.

9-11 causes aside, something has to be done about Iraq. The whole world knows it. It's just that France is allowing its horrible hate towards courageous USA to slant it's broadcasting. *Sigh* At least Anti-American propaganda hasn't really hit Canada yet...

At least the French have the sack to stand up to the Bush administration, which is more than I can say for the Democrats.

I see you caught the new Bill Maher show on HBO last night also. I thought it was pretty good (best moment of the night: Maher telling Ann Coulter "you just make shit up," it's about time someone called her out on her blatant lying), but Sarah Silverman was Bee-Are-Utal. I haven't seen anyone bomb that bad in a long time. If she wasn't super-cute I would've flipped the channel after the first 10 seconds.

The Ali G show was just weird, but I did find myself laughing at a lot of stuff, but not really knowing why.

Shhh, I wanted people to think I made that up.

But, yes, the show is fantastic, and much more entertaining than "Politically Incorrect". And Sarah Silverman *was* really bad, which is shocking because I've seen her before and she's usually great.

So do you think that broadcast had some lies in them? Maybe they just have the information that CNN doesn't show. I'm sure there are troops near Iraq right now. And everything else doesn't sound that unbelievable...

CNN is covering up for the American government? Considering that is considered the liberal network in the US, imagine what the reaction would be overseas to Fox News Channel coverage.

I would disagree that our reporting is tame. Until I see a clip on a real news show with little kiddie music showing Chirac to be a dumbass, we haven't reached these depths.

I wasn't saying our reporting was tame, quite the opposite. I said I've seen far more extreme reporting from both the UK and US that ade this French report seem tame.

I've seen quite ridiculous personal attacks on Chirac particularly from the UK press. I find the insinuation (sometimes underlying, sometimes overt) that France 'owes us one for WWII' frankly sickening. A decision to go to war should be taken based on current events, not some historic tit for tat scheme. How long could Israel Jews call in favours form Germany?

One report I saw tried to rip France in part for associations it had with Iraq in the 80's. Yeah cos its not like we supported them through the war with Iran or anything.

Equally the anti war media, an exaple of which you described has been biased to the point of offensive in some cases. It just seemed to me that you were basing your opinion on the French media on one report when, like I said, theres been equally poor reporting in our countries
