I guess we'll see how good Oakland is without 1 of it's Big 3. Anyone heard of the prospects they got?

By the way, Storm's gimmick includes 1.) telling the audience to shut up, and 2.) occasionally making everyone stand for the Canadian national anthem. You know they don't know what to do with a wrestler when he's making fans stand for a national anthem. It's like waving a white flag and saying, "This guy has no personality -- we give up."

OF Charles Thomas, P Juan Cruz and P Dan Meyer. I'm starting to get worried about the Braves already.

Finally, the AJ Burnett trade rumors should die down a bit, considering most of them involved Hudson as well.

Just when people thought the Braves were going to fade away, they pick up a .700 pitcher just entering his prime.

Well, I guess this day was bound to come. I'm glad Hudson didn't wind up in LA with DePodesta, because Billy Beane hasn't had much luck trading with his former assistants. Regardless of how well these prospects turn out, it sucks to see a guy like this go. I can only hope Mulder and Zito aren't soon to follow.

Gee, you really think they gave up a lot for Hudson? Thomas is an overachiever, Juan Cruz is a great set up guy and Meyer is a good prospect. From what I heard they were going to give up Giles and Meyer, personally I think the Braves made out great. I think Giles will be in the next 2 years the best 2B in baseball, hands down.

Cox was not going to let Giles go. With the A's getting Ginter from the Brewers, that wasn't an issue for them anymore.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men....that's the meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown.

Here's the Baseball America's take on the prospects received by the A's in this deal. Click Here (baseballamerica.com)

They really like Meyer and there's a lot to like. Cruz is only 26 and only a year removed from being a great prospect as well. Both Meyer and Cruz have outstanding strikeout rates and K/BB rates and that is usually a decent indicator of future success.

Imagine Timmy Hudson at Spring Break learning an off speed pitch off Leo and Smoltzie...drooooooool. I was so stoked last night, after all the pitchers leaving the Braves this took me by surprise. If Hampton continues with his Post All Star Break madness, and Smoltzie can come back to become a premier starting pitcher, that's 3 Cy Young's in the staff, with upcoming Horacio Ramirez who is looking more like Glavine circa '91. One power hitter more and we are so set to win the division again.

I'm just wondering, but who is going to play outfield for the Braves? The only person I can think of is Andruw Jones, and he's not good enough to play all 3 OF positions. Are there prospects, or am I forgetting somebody?

JD in right (yes I'm confident we will resign him), Andrew in center and left I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a Spring Training call, with Ryan Langerhans leading the way, especially cause he is a lefty. Maybe a nice free agent pick up could also be in the works. Who else is available that can be picked up for cheap? Ben Grieve? Forget about Drew and go for Moises? Mags? Damn I wish I was a GM.

Edited again for spelling.

Well, that JD dude you refer to is already a free agent, so again, that just leaves Andruw Jones.

I hear Sosa is available :)

With the agent that he has (and a good year) I'm imagining JD's asking for way more than his market worth. He proved he could stay healthy for one year (and was an NL east team destroyer), so they'd be smart to re-sign him. I forgot about him totally.

I do believe Drew was not offered arbitration and can't resign with the Braves until May 1st.

Drew signed with the Dodgers today. 5 years, $55 million.

Now the Dodgers better hope he's the motivated "I'm not a bust, really" Drew, rather than the injury prone one that played for the Cardinals.

Graves9 pretty much said it for me. I still don't get why if they knew they weren't going to come close to signing Reyes, why didn't they trade him for something more than the one lousy draft pick they're getting as compensation?
