It wouldn't be a national crisis without some leftist wacko saying something so blatantly treasonous...kinda like that letter-to-the-editor in Friday's USA Today from some lady in Washington calling our troops "cowards" and "saluting" the Iraqi people, who had "only international law and pride" on their side. (Honey, Saddam's broken just about every damn law you can think of.)

If you thought that was funny, then you should read 'The Lecturer's Tale' by James Hynes; especially if you like dark humor. It's a really funny satire of academia. The more familiar you are with academia, the funnier it will be (especially for anyone in grad school). Given that this professor indirectly called for Jake's death, I think he's excused. Imagine if your immediate family was murdered, and then some professor advocated that we execute your extended family, too. Similar circumstances.

Keep in mind he never called for his death. Those are your words. Perhaps the photograph was so that each and every Ranger could buy him ice cream when they saw him.
Maybe it was so they could get his autograph.
Or maybe, it was just so they could express THEIR freedom of speech and let this guy know how they feel about his comments when they see him.

Quite frankly, MLK, RFK, and George Wallace were politicians, and this man is a teacher. MLK, RFK, and yes, even Wallace thought they were doing what's best for their country (key words, thought, and I mean that for all 3.) More importantly, the media would listen to them regardless of what they said.
This Professor, however, had to use shock value to garner a bit of attention, even though the thought of 1,000 dead soldiers, Mogadishan, American, Iraqi, Israeli, British, Russian, French, or Swahili is based of the general thought of 1,000 dead. The real question, I put to you, is what kind of man is it that has the capacity of will to find the death of 1,000 acceptible, and how can any man like this be considered an academic?
