But that doesn't mean I was good. Once when I was going to the co-op, I saw a deer ahead and it strolled across the road in front of me. While I watched it, the pickup went in the ditch. Dad came with the tractor and pulled me out.

Almost ditto. Started driving farm equipment on the road around 10 or 11. Since we rented 600 or so acres in addition to the 310 we own that were on the other side of a parkway that required a 15 mile (approx) trip to transport any number of things to aid my father I've been driving all manner of motor vehicles on public roads since I was 12 (our private roads since I was probably 10 and maybe even before that as I'm very tall and could reach the pedals at a young age).

While my parents were very encouraging towards my schoolwork and disappointed with anything less than a B, I cannot remember someone stressing over me passing a test more than my Dad did over me getting my driver's license at 16 since I'm sure he was worried about local small town cops seeing me driving knowing I wasn't of age yet (small town remember) and giving him crap about it.

I'm proud to announce that I finally got my learners permit this week. After failing the test five times, I finally got it.

I've had a serious phobia about driving - and I've been trying my best to get over it. The wife and I took a five KM drive yesterday through the neigbourhood to church and back, and I was incredibly nervous during the trip.

Proof that my manager is a total dick: I told him about it, and he mocked me for waiting as long as I did. Seems he doesn't seem to understand phobia. Then again, he mocked me and my wife when I announced during our morning toolbox meeting about her getting her citizenship. He's a real tool.

...on a roll!

I was 20. When I lived in Massachusetts the permit age was 16. I moved to Oregon when I was nearly 16, and when I got there I found the license age was 15, so lots of people I became friends with had licenses, and since I had no money for a car I just bummed rides. Then when I moved to Seattle I lived on a bus line for forever, so I didn't need to drive until later.

On a side note, Mrs. Brady is 10 1/2 and I'm already teaching her how to drive.

Holy fuck shit motherfucker shit. Read comics. Fuck shit shit fuck shit I sold out when I did my job. Fuck fuck fuck shit fuck. Sorry had to do it....

Can I come kick your boss in the balls?

I got my learner's permit and license at 19. I had no interest in driving at 16, only got the license because I was going away to university and my parents thought I should have the skill handy.

I didn't do much driving until my late 20s, though. I wish I had taken to it sooner, because I love long road trips and wish I could have driven across the USA by myself before meeting the wife.

NO! /defensive voice

She *is* nearly as tall as Mrs. JJD, but mostly I just want her to be able to step up in case there is a serious emergency and nobody licensed to drive is around, someone (her) can step up if needed.
