Looking at the horrid ratings for Velocity and Confidential, you have to wonder how long the fed or the network keep these formats going. Velocity they probably would keep around, mainly because they are afraid if they let someone go, he could come back to haunt them. In terms of Confidential, unless Austin is going to quit the company every week, the show has no real value. Take the best portion of its predecessor Excess and have a one hour Best of From the Vault Show. They have the large video library; and not all of it will be used for DVD's, so why not throw some of that into the Confidential time slot and see if you can begin to gain back the fans who have floated away in the past 2 years.

I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said.

Arghhhh! I love Confidential. It's like my favorite show from the WWE. Of course they have MTV Cribs-like segments and sometimes use the stories to gripe at people they think have done them wrong (like the Kelsey Grammer story last week). Who cares, I still dig the DVD-like featurettes.

Seriously, I love the show as it is and I hope that they can tweak it enough to get back some ratings. I would be in favor of using one segment to use as a "from the vault" segment.

Let's not blame Mean Gene either, he's only working with what he's given. I can't believe that Smackdown's B-show would get higher ratings than Confidential. IT'S A CONSPIRACY!!

I would love love love an hour long retro show. From The Vault is where I first saw Savage vs. Steamboat. Since they have the combined WCW-WWF tape library, they could do some really fun stuff. Being able to see wrestlers during various gimmicks and runs in the two companies side by side would be a hoot.

It would be cheap to produce, and a good way to stir up interest in certain angles and matches among the more hardcore fans. Got a Hell In The Cell coming up? Have a show dedicated to that match. Ditto for ladder matches, the Royal Rumble, etc. They've got a monopoly on nostalgia these days, they might as well use it.

I like this idea, and if Vince can get his hands on the ECW tape library, they could dig even deeper.

I'm with Torch, though I have to say lately, it's been really hit or miss. The piece this past Saturday about the filming of the old Raw opening was cool as hell.

Why the hell DONT they have a "From the vault" show? It seems to me that show would be a huge hit... I know I would watch it. Or an hour long show where they focus on a single historic feud (like Hogan, Andre for example) and go through showing parts of the buildup and show one or two of the key matches in their entirety...

Color me on board!

Better still, what ever happened to the rumblings of an all wrestling channel? That would kill so many birds with one stone for VKM...

I think if they did, it would be higher rated than RAW, which is probably why they won't do it.

Did plans for a 24-hour wrestling channel fall by the wayside? I'm sure they have the footage and I heard it brought up a year or two ago, but never got an update...

This week's Confidential is a repeat by the way.

I think Pool-Boy's idea about "From The Vault." is a good idea.

"From The Vault" was my favorite segment on "Excess" and it's a programming idea that's got a helluva lot of merit. As several people have already pointed out, they've got access to tons of good stuff, along with built in opportunities for theme episodes (ladder matches, etc.)

By & large, I dig "Confidential". I'm a fan of behind the scenes type stuff, so things like the segment on producing the first RAW opening segment or something that lets you see one of the Superstars in a different light are things I really, really enjoy. (One of my favorite segments was about the recent Austrailian tour--something about Kurt Angle's fascination with koalas just tickled me.)

Like someone else pointed out, Mean Gene's just working with what he's given, so it's not fair to call for him to be put to sleep.

But now, if you want to talk about a broadcaster who SHOULD be put to sleep......ah, never mind. I refuse to go off topic here, in the interest of preserving civility on the board and all that.

Yes Confidential should have more "from the Vault" footage that embraces the history of the pro wrestling industry, instead of the WWE corporation. It should also have more edgy features. Right now its just PR fluff. For instance, I'd like to see a feature on Booker T, regarding his trouble with the law, instead of more behind the scenes footage of his commericals.

Regarding Velocity, I'd like to see that slot used for OVW taping. It would give us something different to watch instead of Tajiri vs Kidman part XVII.

There are positives and negatives giving OVW the Velocity time slot. The main positive of course is it provides us with one hour a week of Jim Cornette goodness, which as an old NWA and Smoky Mountain fan, I'd appreciate. The negative, it would provide an opportunity for the Gayda effect to reappear, causing us all to run in horror at the blown spots.

A new "From the Vault" segment would be cool but what i would really like to see is a show like ESPN's sportscentury shows. One hour dedicated to one wrestler's career, with highlights from matches and comments from friends, other wrestlers, family.

I also wouldn't blame Mean Gene for the low Confidential ratings, and the quality of the show.

I didn't watch Heat for very long but I remmeber in the Fall of '99 they started showing a classic match from the Attitude era every week and had several wrestlers comment on it. I also know that ine one of the Guitar magazines I read sometimes, they have a musician pick his one hour's worth of songs he would take with him to a deserted island. Maybe each week, you get a different wrestler to make his own personal one-hour tape? They could even actually make the tapes and release them to see if they sell.

The other thing is that the characters that are created in OVW are not used by the WWE with the debuting call ups. See Batista for the most obvious example.

I really like Confidential, I like it so much that it's going ahead of Raw on my "best show" list. It's battling for top spot with Smackdown... I think it's one of the more consistent good shows WWE puts out.

Sure there's a lot of fluff pieces. But atleast you leave the show feeling good on the most part about the company and the people involved unlike most of the "A" shows that you feel contempt at the people involve in the writing and other aspects (er Lawler) of the show.

WWE cribs is most of the time fun. From Al Snow who's house totally fits his personality to Trish Stratus who seems like such a cool girl with a fridge full of Molsons, a pool & hockey table, a bunch of wrestling figures (old & new school). Huge movie collection and wrestling mags collection with her in it (including Apter mags..lol)

Plus I enjoy the features like title history and a recent one on Fit Finley working with the girls... I hope it sticks around and if changes don't change a lot. I do like more classic matches being shown, but in full I hate cut up jobs.

Don't really know if going into detail here is the right place because we all know a wrestling messageboard is no place for wild speculation and innuendo

How can I really add on to what's already been discussed so far, since I agree with it all?

IMHO, Mean Gene is perfect as the host for Confidential.

Also, I think it's safe to say that, for the generation of fans who grew up during Rock n' Wrestling, we're starting to come full circle, and have matured right through WWF Attitude, the Monday Night Wars, and ECW. And I think that right now is the perfect time for WWE to dig up stuff from the past and do so on a consistent basis.

Consider that, for so many of us in our twenties to early thirties ( avery rough age range), when we were kids, wrestling was just a s cool as, say, Transformers and He-Man. And guess what? Those pop culture institutions have come back in a major way. Why can't WWE see this?!

It's time for WWE to instill into the newer generations of fans now and those yet to come, that reverence, respect, and love for the mat game that many older fans have (READ: instilling product loyalty into consumers to make money now and later). How do you do that? OLD FOOTAGE! Use Confidential as a vehicle to not only give fans their fill of old school goodness, but use the show as well to create a new kayfabe! It can be done...
