Okay, so I'm admittedly a huge Yankee basher, but I don't understand how anybody, even Yankees fans, can like someone like this.
Also, in trying to defend himself against fan and media criticism, Rodriguez brought other players' names into the conversation, which could threaten to fracture the Yankees' clubhouse.
"[Mike] Mussina doesn't get hammered at all," he told SI. "He's making a boatload of money. Giambi's making [$20.4 million], which is fine and dandy, but it seems those guys get a pass. When people write [bad things] about me, I don't know if it's [because] I'm good-looking, I'm biracial, I make the most money, I play on the most popular team ..."
Way to throw your fellow players under the bus. Is this guy related to Kobe, perhaps? The article also talks about how Jason Giambi and perhaps Joe Torre are starting to get tough on A-Rod. I particularly enjoyed the conversation Giambi recalls about A-Rod's hitting in Boston.
I think you're overreacting a bit there. How is he throwing them under the bus? He's not saying anything is their fault, that they did anything wrong or aren't good players. He's pointing out that they make a lot of money too and don't get ripped like him, which is a response to people suggesting that he gets called out because of his salary.
Personally he should get the hell out of New York. Sure he hasn't gotten hits in some big spots, but he's one of the very top players and any other team would kill to have him and their fans would likely be thrilled rather than whining.
I think that right there encapsulates A-Rod's problems. "I'm rich, good looking and bi-racial" But that's not why he is disliked. Thinking it's because of that, is why. He is too concerned with his image. He wants to be known as a good guy and everyone's pal. It can't always be that way. Just hit the ball, please!
Also, who is Jason Giambi to talk about A-Rod? Where are his rings? Combine that with his .180 average for the past month, and a poor series against the Redsox this past week and you have yourself a hypocrite.
Rusty Shackleford is just the name he uses to order Pizza with.

Seriously. If those were the reasons, Jeter would be hated on by most Yankee fans too, and that clearly isn't the case.
Perhaps this is another thing Giambi can apologize for while never telling us what he is apologizing for. I'm no fan of A-rod, but to be called out by that roid using piece of shit seems ridiculous.
I like A-Rod fine and I even hate the Yankees, if he could play second base I'd gladly take him on my Mets. I see nothing wrong with what he said. Like wmastistic said, all he said was they make money and don't get bashed. I also don't get why he gets bashed, I think it's all pretty ridiculous. It's one thing if you're player is playing like crap and gets paid a ton of money, like say Carlos Beltran last year. But atleast the Mets fans showed some appreciation when he had a great season this year. The Yankees fans are never going to be happy with A-Rod and that's just stupid and the Yankees are supposed to be "smart fans".
