Marian Hossa signs 12 year deal with Chicago. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=4300131 This likely means Havlat is gone, and probably Khabibulin is out unless they can trade Huet. 2007 and 2008 W-League Fantasy Football champion! No hard feelings, bro. And at a 5.2 cap hit via the Detroit backend loophole, it doesn't preclude them from re-signing Toews, Kane, and Seabrook. On Havlat vs. Hossa, Havlat had a much better playoffs but Hossa is more durable, so maybe it's a fair tradeoff. I think Ottawa would prefer keeping either to Heatley at this point. I wonder if he will choke against Detroit in the playoffs like he did against Pittsburgh this year? Either way, he got his paycheck and a real chance to lose again to the Pens in the finales. I bet Red Wings fans are pissed off that he left for Chicago and not some no name team in the west.
I was paying close attention to this trade deadlinw for good reason. When we traded Huet, the first thing that came up in my mind was "clearing cap space for a sign-and-trade!".
