Well, we've got nothing else to talk about today, so let me throw this out there.
As you've noticed from WWE's viral videos, something big is coming up on January 2nd... that's right, THIS SITE'S 10TH ANNIVERSARY.
We'd like to do something gaudy (or blatantly seek attention) to commemorate the event. As always, I'm totally ready to completely scrap and redesign the entire board, but not willing to invest the necessary coding time to make it happen.
But let's pretend time and money were no object. What functionality have you always dreamed of for The W that has never happened? What have you seen on other sites that you wish we had implemented? Do you wish we'd try harder to give you a version of The W that you can access on your mobile device when you're really, really bored? What can we do to make it easier for you to promote us through/on your favourite social networks? What have I given you a flat out "no" on that you feel like you should ask me again?
Lastly....and I ask this all the time, and don't expect an answer, but I love asking it...how do we bring back/in the women?
Come on! We've got a whole month to make this happen! Brainstorm: ON
I've mentioned it before, but a way to "like" or "+1" posts would be great. There are many comments here I'd like to acknowledge as being great without making an empty post that just says "good one, man".
Also, to bring back in the women you could retitle the board to TwilightHungerGames.com?
Am I in Horseville? Because I'm hearing nothing but naysayers!
A send private message tab, so you don't have to click on the persons name and scroll to the bottom. You might have given me a reason for not doing this before.
Or a way to upload your avatar from your computer.

You totally stole my idea! I love it even more now.
It might sound counter intuitive, but not forcing a user to be clearly identified as female all the time would be a start.
The internet is not generally a friendly place to people who are singled out as females. Forcing users to be color-coded by gender in posts, online, etc. is seen as a warning flag that people who are not the majority are likely to be singled out.
Having a clear harassment policy of what types of comments directed at other users are automatic bans etc. would go far to making new users feel more comfortable. I think this policy is mostly enforced now because of CRZ and the mods shutting down personal attacks REALLY quick, but it'd be nice to specify it in the rules for people who don't know that.
About 90% of posts are thoughtful and respectful when topics of female appearance(aka assessing a woman's worth on their suitability for reproduction activities) come up-- but 10% creepy comments are enough to be off-putting especially to someone new.
Originally posted by CRZWhat have I given you a flat out "no" on that you feel like you should ask me again?
I asked this once or twice before, and you said no. Let's try again!
At the top of the main forum, the icons that show the past ten (or so, I'm not sure exactly) threads that have icons and have been posted to. But when you click on them, they take you to the first post in the thread. This seems counter intuitive to me. For example, right now, the John Morrison is Gone thread is up there among those icons. It has 75 posts and has been active for more than a week, yet the link takes me to the first post? It is up there because of the 75th post! Take me to that one! Or at least to the last page of the thread.
Also - and this may seem dumb, but I encounter it once in a while - I have a slight problem with the ignore feature. If I am ignoring a user, their posts include a "see just this post" link, so I can see the post without unignoring them. I use this when it seems like someone such as [name redacted] actually managed to post something on-topic and worth reading. However, on the rare occasion that two people who I am ignoring have made such posts (or, more likely, the same person makes two posts in the same conversation), clicking "see this post" on the second post causes the first one to go back into ignore mode. Can this be amended? I like to make liberal use of the ignore feature; it really makes most of the threads here easier to read. But while someone who posts worthless nonsense, say, 80 percent of the time is worth an ignore in my book, I'd still like an easy, efficient way to read their stuff the other 20 percent of the time.

Wouldn't this mean using up the Zims' server space to host the image?
- Like button/Dislike button - MMA forum - Mark individual threads as read, as opposed to whole forums - Easier way to send private messages - People that post about books and music
Not that it would improve the board too much, but a few years ago there was a "blackout" day where you couldn't tell who was posting what. The names were revealed the next day. I thought it was fun!
Back to the like topic, a board I post on for AMT has a small area at the bottom of the post where is might say "awarulz, DJfrostyfreeze and Mr Heel II thank you for this helpful post" and there is a like button that gets you there.
The same board has a chat room. I hate chat rooms, but people seem to like them.
another thing I saw was a twitter trending topic forum that automatically opened a thread when a trending topic stayed up for a certain time, Is there one that could grab the top trending topics a day, open a thread and see if there is any discussion? That might be great or dumb. But we're brainstorming.
Have you considered linking somehow so someone can register with facebook or twitter credentials.
that's all I have right now
We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.
That the universe was formed by a fortuitous concourse of atoms, I will no more believe than that the accidental jumbling of the alphabet would fall into a most ingenious treatise of philosophy - Swift
A chat room that could be open during events. I'm thinking it would be neat to have one open in the wrestling forum during Raw or PPVs. In the football forum, one could be open during Sundays in general to discuss the action as it happens.
I'd love to be able to find out who is ignorning me, so I can ask them if it was something specific I did, or something in general.

I love this idea, actually. It'd be nice to talk to people other than geemoney real-time during RAW and Smackdown.
I'll also second the "Like/Dislike" button (or other associated ways to rate a post, rather than just the poster), and special guest mods. You could probably make it so the Wiener of the Day has mod privileges.

This is the only way we can possibly top the last Troll Amnesty. But I'll settle for plain ol' normal Troll Amnesty.

If that is the case then I withdrawl that reqeust. I don't know about that kind of stuff.
I'd like to see this functionality too, and I don't think it would take up THAT much space. At 3,292 Ws and a limit of (hmmm let's go with) 200k per picture, you're at 643MB. And that assumes that 3,000 inactive users all come back and want to add profile pictures. A more accurate assessment assumes 200k per picture and 275 active users for a total of 54 MB.
Having said that, I assume the issue is bandwidth usage and not disk space. Would each icon would have to be loaded from the server each time it's to be displayed? (An honest question - I have no idea how these things work, or what kinds of workarounds might be available.) That could mean a significant increase in bandwidth usage, even for something so relatively small. Or maybe it wouldn't at all. I have no idea what I'm talking about. Stop looking at me.

Mods have privileges? All I ever get to do is add icons to threads. The other guys must be holding out on me.
You missed the day where we were all given the power to edit your posts at whim. It was a great day - thecubsfan
