Apparently JR and Lawler were pissed to found out that they had to split PPV airtime with Michael Cole and Tazz. Are the two veterans worried that their spots are in danger?

Well, seeing as how J.R. already has a job as V.P. of Talent Relations, I'd say the only person who should be worried about his job security is Jerry Lawler. But, then again, they DID hire him back...

I don't know. Michael Cole is miles ahead of where he was back in '98-'00. I have so much respect for him remembering to actually say the correct name of moves all the time, unlike JR and Lawler who drop a name of a move and never bring it up again. I'm talking about the Edge-o-Matic, Taker Care of Business, Whisper in the Wind, etc. He may tend to get a little excitable sometimes, but fuck man, it's WRESTLING. Why would you need a guy who sounds like he got stuck with a couple tranqs before the show.

And Tazz, well, he's Tazz!

Ross and Lawler should be proud that the B-Team on commentary is being considered an elite team now, PLUS a major reason that watching SD is enjoyable. I can't tell you how happy I was Sunday when they took over the first half. Glad to see others felt the same way.

I thought a better idea may have been to have 2 announce tables with JR/Lawler calling Raw matches and Cole/Tazz calling SD matches. the PPV's should go back and forth between being Raw heavy and SD heavy.

IMO, Cole, and Tazz have been the better announce team since the split. Tazz is miles better than Lawler, and at least Cole doesn't mix up the wrestlers like JR.

Tazz has become by far the better of the two colour commentators. He is coming out with some great lines that have had me laughing out loud, like the unmasking of The Hurrican by Nidia and Noble -"It's Gregory Helms!".

According to Z-Man, JR's job there isn't too secure.

Why does anyone think there's real friction about splitting PPV announcer time? Sure, in character they are supposed to be upset about it, because, you know, in character there's this split. But is there some super-secret chocolately-fudgey insider news about them really being mad about it?

(Oh, and I doubt "Z-Man" knows his ass from a hole in the ground. but that's another story.)

It would be nice to see Lawler and Ross moved out of their announcing spots. If you want to appeal to the young male audience then you need young announcers. Not perverts like Lawler. Cole may not be the best but has improved over the years and Tazz is solid. Not spectacular, but solid.

Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler are both said to be upset with not only splitting announce time last night at the Vengeance PPV, but also with the entire announcers angle as a whole.

Despite the announcers angle being written days ago, nobody informed Lawler of it until yesterday which obviously did not help matters. This marks yet another time when Brian Gerwertz, head of RAW, did not inform one of his workers/talent about what was scheduled for them. It is even more surprising when considering how powerful Ross is in WWE.

It should be interesting how Ross reacts to this, considering the fact that he often tells wrestlers in his Ross Report to "do what's best for business" and be a team player. A lot of the talent does not like the way he talks about situations now feel he will understand things better since it has happened to him.

Paul Heyman has been working extremely hard in trying to help Michael Cole and Tazz improve as announcers, and Cole and Tazz have also been working very hard. Apparently Ross may be upset towards Heyman about this too.

Most feel that Cole and Tazz have improved greatly as an announce team.

Hell, how much advance notice does Lawler need?

The way this reads, it pretty much says that Ross and Lawler are two big babies. I mean, Ross is upset at Heyman....for helping Tazz and Cole get better?

This all sounds too stupid to me. I'm not buying it.

I hope they never bring back Bad 'Ol JR, his evil side. The supposed Lawler/Ross and Tazz/Cole stuff sounds like they're just putting things out there to get people to buy into the newest version of the brand rivalry.

When they brought Tazz and Cole out for the showdown with JR and Lawler before the PPV, it seemed kinda forced. But maybe they'll go all the way with it for SummerSlam and have the SmackDown production crew set the production trailer on fire with the Raw producers still in there. Or open the pre-show Heat with footage of the SmackDown ring crew attacking the Raw ring crew while they put the ring together, and the resulting toolbelt fight means the ring is only half put together for the whole PPV. Those brands just hate each other!

They haven't had a real sucking 'comedy' macth for a while (Patterson V Briscoe, Patrick V Hebner). What are the odds on Lawler/Ross V Tazz/Cole? They could get Tajiri and Al Snow to commentate.

Cole still and always has sucked.

Thankfully Tazz is(was?) a active wrestler and he can offset and correct Cole's stupidity.

Frankly, although he may have improved, Cole still blows, and will probably continue to blow for a long time. On the other hand, Tazz has been a really kick-ass announcer to listen to. The only one I really want to see them be rid of Lawler. As much as I like his enthusiasm for eye-candy (which I share), I'd still notice the breasts when they come out. And let's face it, he really doesn't contribute too much else. I say, bring in a wrestler to fill his spot (I'm thinking Al Snow maybe, or someone else, as long as they can talk). They can correct JR's mistakes and add a little more to the show. As much as I know people don't llike him, I happen to enjoy JRs commentary, just so long as he doesn't try to name moves.

The "heel JR" was funny as hell. He couldn't get over as a heel because the fans kept cheering for him. Here is a look back, courtesy of CRZ's recap of 3/8/99.

Cole & Lawler talk about Ross' situation as JIM ROSS makes his way to the ring. We see a picture of Ross and his momma, and a clip of Gunn's knockout of Williams in the BrawlforAll. There's an OLD photo of Ross and Williams, wow. "Well folks I guess I've got some explaining to do - before I get started I'd like to invite Michael Cole to come up here in the ring and join me please - Michael would you join me for a second? I'd appreciate it." Cole is uneasy, but complies. "JR, what's with the shopping bag?" "Well, you're obviously on top of your game - great question. You know folks, when I was sittin' home for three months, tryin' to heal from this Bells Palsy thing again - I had a lot of time to think. And I sat there one day, and I come up with a HELL of an idea. Matter of fact, I believe it's going to be one of the most REVOLUTIONARY ideas in the history of sports entertainment, 'cause you know Michael, we're not in the wrestling business anymore, this is sports entertainment. So what I've got here, folks, is a red Japanese - what do they call it, a gi? There's a top, and look at this mask - look at this - isn't this a stroke of genius? This is the idea that the creative and marketing geniuses in this company came up with for a legitimate, four-time wrestling All-American to wear in the ring, and I'm talking about Steve 'Dr. Death' Williams. This is the biggest pile of horse crap that I have ever seen in my life. I can take it from here" and he takes the mic from Cole. "Now Michael I got a couple things I'd like to address with you - when you first came here to the WWF, who was the guy, the first guy that went to you and said 'if there's anything I can do to help you, let me know?'" "You did, JR." "Who was the guy who worked overtime - we looked at tapes and we got you all ready to go to do your work on television, who did that?" "You, did JR..." "Absolutely. And what thanks did I get for it, Michael? You've got the little mousse on your hair, and your little narrow ass - you're a pretty boy, that's all well and good - I can't be that way, that's ok. But you went to the boys, you went to the office, you went to the executive producer, you went to everybody and said 'well, you know ol' JR is never gonna be back - look at his face! Hell, old JR would scare small children and animals,' isn't that what you said?" "JR--" "That's exactly what you said so don't try to lie about it, so what I want you to do - I want to leave you with something that you will remember me forever and ever here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania..." and he kicks him right in the nuts. "Now Michael, just like everybody else, you are going to learn to respect JR...now drag your Yankee ass outta here to the back, 'cause I'm gonna go back to work where I belong at ringside!" It might be just me, but they're not gonna get him over as a heel with crotch kicks - more like a FACE. Ross takes his place next to the King, who is a bit flustered, but accepts him there.

TERRY TAYLOR arrives at the commentary table while Ross starts to rant about "all I want to do is make a living, dammit! What's wrong with that?" "Mr. McMahon asked me to get you out of here, so I'm asking you nicely, please do what the boss says." "Well, I'll tell you whatMcMahon has screwed me on many occasions and you're just gonna do what he says - what, Red Rooster gonna get a little cocky? You gonna peck me to death? ... The Red Rooster is gonna replace Jim Ross doing play-by-play, that's the most ridiculous thing that I've ever heard." Meanwhile, DR. DEATH is out - and he manages to get Ross - still ranting about "a midcard wrestler at best with a horrendous won-loss record" taking the play-by-play slot, backstage. "My job! My chair!"
