According to wrestlingobserver.com, Hogan's match with Chono on 10/13 in New Japan aggravated his right knee, which now needs surgery. Because of this, he can not do the 11/30 big TNA show. After hearing of this this afternoon, TNA officials cancelled the show.

Tough break for TNA, who, I'm sure, was banking on this PPV to help them out a lot.

well that just fucking sucks ... hopefully it is just getting postponed and will be scheduled for early next year. TNA needs this big time ... there has been a lot of time and preparation put into this for it to just be tossed aside.

maybe I've just had a few beers and I'm hostile right now.

DAMMIT.

I can just imagine, when December rolls around, how even the cynical Wieners around here will be wishing that maybe that TNA PPV would have been cool after all.

This just doesn't bode too well for TNA. Yeah, I know, it'll be business as usual for them, but this has got to be a blow to all of those who work in the promotion as well as fans. Wrestling in North America NEEDS competition, and unfortunately, it looks as if TNA's opportunity to get a possible foothold has flown out of the window... for now.

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT.

I know a lot of us (including cfgb) won't be crying about this much, but it's a good thing TNA didn't hype this event too much. A bait and switch of that magnitude could have been disastrous.

Question: Will Hogan still wanna work this show early next year, since that would probably be cutting it close in terms of getting back to WWE in time for WM XX? Or is he already signed to work for TNA regardless of his injury?

Don't lay the eggs in one basket, although it is kind of odd that both Hogan and Chono are now injured...

Ooooh, they *really* shot themselves in the foot this time, didn't they? Especially considering the WHOLE SHOW last week was dedicated to setting up this major angle?

Gotta wonder if it's going to impact tonight's NWA title match - and if suddenly AJ Styles might actually have a chance to successfully defend the belt. You want a shocker - that'd be one!

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't doubt the injury, (well, maybe a little...) but the timing is somewhat auspicious. Think Vince would say "If you appear on this show, you WILL NOT be a part of WM XX"?

Well, yes and no. Because of that angle, TNA received more publicity (albeit 'Internet publicity') than it had during its entire first year. Lord knows if the Japan footage was enough to entice people to watch last week's show (hey, it worked for me). But at least it got people talking. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, I suppose.

The problem becomes now, how can they follow up with it? If Hogan doesn't at least show up in Nashville sometime over the next month, he'll suffer some serious credibility problems (his manager DID say he would get revenge on Jarrett). They can't leave that unanswered until next year. And as someone here pointed out, Hogan may decide by then to go for the WMXX payday (and he will have the chance to get one, don't be silly).

I just look at it this way: had TNA *not* shown that footage or shot that angle, they'd be no less ahead of the game than they are now.

There're a few ways they can keep this going, at least for a while.

Hogan doesn't have to wrestle, he could phone/satellite in interviews bitching Jarrett out. Hell, he could even blame the knee thing on him somehow. In the meantime, Jarrett can do his "win the title" thing and actually, maybe, build up a somewhat credible reign while waiting for Hogan to heal up for the match... they could bring in Jimmy Hart for a shot or two, managing this or that one-shot wrestler to try and take Jarrett out in retaliation.

That sort of stuff won't last them too long, though, so hopefully (for their sake, not for the unfortunate fans stuck viewing a Jeff Jarrett/Hulk Hogan match) Hogan'll heal up fairly quickly.

I like that idea. I mean, I REALLY like that idea. Very old-school Memphis booking. And who better to play that part than the same guy who did so 20 years ago -- Jimmy Hart?

That is just a terrific way to keep things going for a little while, but as you said, they'd eventually have to deliver Hogan.

So I guess it IS true, huh? The first I read it was on Rajahwwf.com, and the idiot reporter/rewriter said something like "the PPV on 11/30 was canceled because of Hogan's scheduled surgery the next day, 11/31." Umm, 30 days in November. So I thought maybe this guy had been taken, or it was a fake for whatever reason. Guess not.

Why put off the surgery til then, though? Is that part still legit? Do it now, six weeks, he just might be able to rock and roll on November 30, or at least shortly thereafter.

That's *October* 31st that the surgery is scheduled for, not November. That would only give him four weeks recovery. At his age I don't think that would be a very realistic goal. Better off waiting till early next year. But as everyone else has said, what of WM XX then? If Hogan wins the title in early 2004 he would have to drop it right away if he wants to be a part of WM XX. Maybe the Hogan Jarrett match will just be a non-title afair.

They could have promoted a big contract signing between Jarrett & Hogan for the 11/30 show ... have Jarrett attack Hogan and "injure" his knee ... thus postponing the show and let folks know that Hogan will wrestle in TNA (if that is still the case.)

Thanks for the correction, Eradicator. The quote on Rajah stated (still states, actually) "Hogan aggravated his knee, but felt all would be well by the show. It was discovered earlier today that Hoganís surgery had to be scheduled on 11/31, which caused the show to be postponed." Thus the source of my initial confusion.

Rajah now has another post up saying that VKM currently has no plans for Hogan at WMXX as he's still upset at Hogan's refusal to job again to Lesnar, and his request to wrestle as himself instead of Mr. America. So that might work things out for NWA-TNA anyway.

Hawk is definitely a cutie. (If only he can keep his ADD meds balanced...) He was one of my favourites that season, albeit slightly off-center.
