As far as Hogan being mainstream, I'm not so sure. Not that the mainstream isn't aware of it, but the general feeling I'm getting is that people are looking at it as a joke, as in "Wrestling is soooo fake, they have an old fossil like Hogan as champion." I heard some DJ talk about how Rock must be a great actor, because he was able to have a staredown with Hogan without bursting out in laughter.
Do you think anyone would confuse wrestlers with conservationalists? I wouldn't be surprised if the WWE is still stinging from that incident, and therefore they are overreacting in an attempt to protect themselves.
