As far as Hogan being mainstream, I'm not so sure. Not that the mainstream isn't aware of it, but the general feeling I'm getting is that people are looking at it as a joke, as in "Wrestling is soooo fake, they have an old fossil like Hogan as champion." I heard some DJ talk about how Rock must be a great actor, because he was able to have a staredown with Hogan without bursting out in laughter.
This is barely a complete thought. It's so not even close to how WCW handled their celebrities. WCW paid Rodman and Master P millions of dollars to actually wrestle multiple times and to be active characters in their storylines.
