You could make the little NEW icon clickable or something so you wouldn't have to design a new icon even!

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you regularly marking the forum read? If so, there's already a "Show New Only" link if you're seeing all the messages in a thread - and you're free to edit your profile to show ONLY new messages.

Hmm, I'll have to play around with that. What I had in mind was a way to show all the messages but skip to the latest one. Which seems rather redundant now, I guess.
