Carlos Colon, if you count the WWC as a fed.
And, I assume you arent talking cruisers, because then there are SEVERAL that would qualify.

I was wondering the same thing, PU. Couldn't think of anyone other than Morales.
This would make Eddie this first Hispanic champ in a looong time, at any rate.

And during part of his reign, Morales wasn't even considered to be a world champion, because the belt was reduced to a regional title when the WWWF joined the NWA temporarily. Tito Santana defeated Don Muraco on 8/8/93 to win the ECW World Title, so there's that. Other than that, I think the closest we've come was probably shortly after Rey Mysterio Jr. lost his mask in WCW. He started getting a major push, beating bigger guys like Kevin Nash and Bam Bam Bigelow. He won a drawing to earn a shot at the WCW World Title on Nitro, and got a 2.99999999999999 count on World Champion Ric Flair when Arn Anderson pulled the referee out of the ring. “You wanna mock people, or you wanna let me talk to Toby?” “I wanna mock people.” --Leo McGarry and Josh Lyman, The West WingTwo-Time, Two-Time Randomly Selected Wiener of the Day, 5/27/02 and 7/3/02 Certified RFMC Member-- Ask To See My Credentials! | HallMark

Although when you think about it, the Razor Ramon gimmick had quite a few similarities to Eddie's current gimmick. Carlos Colon also beat Flair for the strap in Puerto Rico in 1983, but it wasn't officially recognized as an NWA title win. Kind of the same situation with Race beating Flair in New Zealand (i believe in '83, also), with Flair taking it back in Singapore the next night (or vice versa).

Morales is the only one of Latino descent I can think of from WWF/E, none from NWA/WCW.

Come to think of it, how many Sicilian champs have there been? Don't count Italian champs as I've been told by every Sicilian I know that the two are NOT the same!
Two hours later they decided to stop at a diner Because they loved the smell of eggs and coffee I just had to smoke a cigarette and wear a hat By the time that they set off again, the sun was starting to set It made the sky look red like a nuclear ray One of them said "what do you want more than anything in this whole wide world Do you want money, do you want sex, or do you want all that success?" I thought about that one myself (Then they came upon the thing)

The accent is part of his character. Why would a guy wait until he hits the pinnacle of his career to scrap what he's been doing for the previous four years and start fresh?
