Part 1 of the Hatfields & McCoys was watched by 13.9 million. To be honest I wasn't among them. I didn't know it was even on. How much did History even promote it?
edited because forgot link and pressed the wrong button
So far this has been very well done. We're waiting for the finale tonight. If you watched anything on History (American Pickers, Pawn Stars, etc...) they promoted the hell out of it. There's a lot of star power in this, which really surprised me for a cable channel.

There's really no difference between broadcast and cable at this point, as this rating demonstrates. Budgets are still smaller on cable but not by enough to matter, particularly when the talent can better enjoy the product they're putting out. I've read several articles, in fact, where name actors claimed [citation needed] they'd rather do cable because of the lighter workload (13 vs 22, and here a miniseries is even lighter.)
Fair warning if you watch the replays, there are scenes cut out. They are not pivotal, but I feel they were important. On re-watching it's obvious that they cut scenes to insert more commercials.
The first runs were (I believe) sponsored and presented with limited commercial runs.
Also on re-watching my only minor complaint is that Kevin Costner never met an accent he couldn't ignore.

I saw a bunch of promos for it, and I literally don't even know what channel the History Channel is on my system. (I mean, I have a guess, but I never actually watch it, so I'm not sure.) Also saw Kevin Costner pushing it on the Tonight Show.
This was good and mostly accurate. Main complaint was the Romeo and Juliet crap that was blown WAY out of proportion. Johnse was not some noble romantic, he was a horndog that banged anyone with boobs and that's what he married the cousin after he got dumped.

Seems to me that's exactly what happened in the mini-series.
Mind you I have only seen 2/3 episodes. Canada gets the 3rd episode this Monday coming.
Feels like they decided to take every single H&M legend and include them all in one form or another.
