Triple H was interviewed on Off the Record with Michael Landsberg this week on TSN. Despite my best efforts, I missed the show. Did any of my fellow Canadians happen to see the interview? Could you offer a report on what was discussed?

All I know is what the Torch reported: He did a good job burying Brock Lesnar for walking out after so many had done jobs to make him a top star; and that he confirmed that Bob Holly is down to his "last chance" with the company.

Saw it. Off the top of my head...

-HHH doesn't care what he does on the show as long as he does it well
-Chris Jericho can be as big as star as he feels like being
-Ric Flair is good for business, even if he's just hanging around
-Brock Lesnar let the people down who built him up when he left
-Hardcore Holly got a "this is your last chance" speech from management after the Dupree incident
-Wesley Snipes was good to work with.

He hardly buried Brock, he said nothing about him that wasn't one hundred percent true. He said Brock had not become a megastar but he was on his way and they were all trying to get him there, check, he crapped on a lot of people who sacrificed for him by leaving, check, and he screwed himself by leaving to go play football which he hasn't done since high school, check. Of course, if Brock makes the NFL, this will all be moot, but it hasn't happened yet.

I was more disappointed with Landsberg's performance. No hard-hitting questions whatsoever. He skimmed over the politics thing, without citing any examples. How about, if you don't care where you are on the show, how come when Chris Benoit won the world title he was always mid-card unless he was facing you? Why did you take the belt from Orton so quickly? Why didn't Benoit ever get a clean, one-on-one win over your buddy HBK? Explain how and why necrophilia was supposed to be entertaining? Why were all the divas who lost the diva search hired anyway?

Actually, I think I read somewhere that he is now claiming that he thought that the necrophilia angle was horrible, but Vince liked it so he did it. This ignores the fact that there are reports from people who were at that filming who said that Hunter was laughing like a madman during the whole thing, but whatever.

I think I would be laughing too if I were being paid to pretend to have sex with a fictional female whom is dead while wearing a Kane mask. It is stupid and moronic as an angle, but if you think about the situation itself (the shoot), it would be hard not to laugh.

Yeah, that 'footage' that they aired of Triple H with the corpse was the only part of that angle (other than a joke that Goldust made) that had anyone looking at all comfortable. I still remember Triple H's promos with Kane during that time. They were horrible. You could tell he was uncomfortable and the lines he was trying to get out were horribly forced, and this from a guy who usually has no problem hearing himself talk. I hated the angle as much as anyone, but I at no time felt like Triple H was enjoying his job when he was out there talking about it.

I think the video they did of Triple H with the corpse was the equivalent of The Boss Man surfing on the Big Show's Dad's casket. A horrible angle that was given a screwed-up 'footage tape' to try to salvage some humor from it.

Jericho has said it himself; he's accomplished everything he ever wanted to accomplish in wrestling. It's pretty obvious watching him every week that he's not the same man he used to be, and he's just going through the motions (somewhat like how Shawn has "lost his edge"). So on that one, I can kind of believe Triple H. I truly believe that Jericho is satisfied with his accomplishments and has no desire to be on top again.

Part of Jericho's lack of desire to be on top, I believe, has to do with who is currently on top. He knows he'll never get a shot to be "the man" with HHH standing in his way, so he accordingly doesn't shoot for it, and settles for the spot he's in right now. Cause & effect. That's why I found the quote to be pretty ludicrous.

Jericho possessing or not possessing a desire to 'be on top' (which I take to mean holding the belt), has zero effect in my eyes on his ability to often be the single most entertaining thing about the show. Just this past Monday, while the Fozzy/limbo segment hurt me emotionally and physically, the segment where Jericho oh so subtly used the phrase "cocktail winners" instead of wieners had me rolling on the floor laughing my ass off.

I don't know. His quote about how he's 'made it' and the rest is basically for retirement money came when he was the Undisputed Champion, right before that year's WM, so it's not like it was in the last couple months.

I guess you could say that it was because of his booking during that time (Lucy the Dog) but Jericho's been around enough to know that nothing stays the same for very long in wrestling when someone wants to change something bad enough. He's watched Shawn Michaels go from marginal tag team wrestler to someone who could kill Shane McMahon and still have a place in the company. This is also a guy who drove his first WWE contract through the roof simply by changing the links on his website from "WWF" to "WCW" every couple weeks so the other company would panic and make a better offer, so he's a smart guy who knows how to make things happen for himself when he wants to.

I personally have no problem with guys that are just doing it for the money and not because of some 'love for the business' that only gives them more permanent damage each year, regardless of whether they achieved their goals, or even if they never cared to begin with.

On the Benoit DVD, Jericho said after seeing Eddie and Beniot in the ring after Wrestlemania XX, he could retire. To be fair, Jericho has done it all and then some. His first title win against Rock at No Mercy was amazing and his third match of the year candidate for the year, vs. Benoit at the Rumble and w/Benoit vs. Two Man Power trip which did win RSPW match of the year. He is technically a two time WCW champ and the first ever undisputed champ something they can never take away from him. So, as much as I want Jericho to be champ again, I think he is about three years away from retirement and he gets to work with the people he wants to work with ie Edge, Christian, Benoit and Batista. I think Jericho knows his role and is waiting for his DVD and book to be released and he can go do Fozzy for the rest of his life. Its good to be Jericho when you think about it.

Spiff,

I agree entirely with you on Jericho. He knows he will never get a fair shot with HHH on top so he carved himself out a nice niche with the Highlight Reel and he fluctuates from the upper mid card to the ME almost at will. He wil lalways be put int he title hunt because people buy him as a possible champ, but also because he is willing to take the loss.

If HHH somehow blew out his quad or had some other long LONG term ailment (ummm no I am not praying for that nightly, that would be...umm...worng), then I think you would see a re-focused jericho shooting for the top. I think he wants one last run as Champ to erase the awful run he had due to HHH and Steph-O. But he can only do that with no HHH.

I hope he does get another chance to run with the strap, but even if he doesn't, his legacy in the WWE and wreslting is safe and he will go on to live and very happy and wealthy life.

I think you're an asshole. No, no, let me correct that, an immature asshole. Which is fine, except that you're marrying my daughter and I'm afraid that my grandchildren are gonna be little assholes.
