Our favorite color commentator Jerry Lawler, defended the Katie Vick storyline on his website commentary (you find the link!) and even brought up Gone With The End and the shocking line at the end by Rhet as example to prove his point .

Comparing that crap on Monday to what people consider a classic is pretty pathetic of you Jerry. Quite a reach there.

Gone With The Wind had writing that made people CARE about the stories and sub stories and the developing relationship between Rhet and Scarlet (so when those famous eight words were uttered, they meant something).

The crap on Monday with Kane and Triple H has HORRIBLE writing, with characters that people DON'T CARE about (because they are either stale, uninteresting, or the behind the scenes actions of the actors behind the characters has turned people off). So all the "shocking stuff" does is make people hate the angle THAT MUCH MORE.

Shock value can enhance a great story.

Fan's of Superman: The Animated Series will recall the shocking scene where Darkseid killed Dan Turpin in retaliation for having his plans of conquering earth foiled, and resulted in Superman going into a rage and set the stage for other episodes (namely the final one, Legacy). The New Batman Adventures had a similar story where Batgirl/Barbara Gordon fell to her death in Over The Edge, and it resulted in the Jim Gordon/Batman relationship falling apart.

The writing in those episodes were compelling, and made you care about the characters and thus the "shocking stuff" had meaning, namely because they were designed to support the stories and were written by people who... you know... know how to write, as apposed to the WWE and it's writers, who are just basically screaming "LOOK AT US... DAMN IT... LOOK AT US!!!!!" with the corpse angle.

Shock value alone means nothing without a compelling hook to support it.

In WWE's case, they need a compelling hook that will give fans a reason to pay whatever kind of cash for a houseshow ticket, or a compelling reason to pay $34.95 to sit through a three hour Pay-Per-View. Shoving the same old stars down our throats involving stupid angles about murders and corpse sex is not a good way to increase that kind of business.

Has it occurred to the WWE how this angle is BOMBING?

Not only are the "on-line critics" completely trashing it (that is the LEAST of this angle's problems), but it also hasn't raised ratings above any significant level (which is the intent of this angle), and the mainstream media has yet to bite like they did with the Billy & Chuck Wedding (for obvious reasons, of course). In short, WWE has yet to gain the "casual audience" that they're trying to attract with this angle, and is close to driving the "hardcore wrestling audience" away from their product.

Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler may consider this angle a success, but it's really a complete failure in every sense of the word. Call me "too negative" if you want, but this angle died once Triple H called Kane a murder in Vegas after the TLC match. The longer it goes on, the more it kills in the long run.

At this point, I'm beginning to not care anymore.

Actually Jerry is right, The Angle was comparable with Gone with the Wind. Cause after that segment, most fans WERE Gone with the Wind.

That was cheap but I don't care.

Flair: "Tonight, it's gonna be Austin, Bradshaw, taking on the NWO!

(Next Monday...)

Flair: I'm not trying to screw you Austin. Tonight, to show that I'm legit, I'll referre your match tonight when you and bradshaw take on the n..w..o!

(Next monday...)

Flair: You thought that was funny Austin? No one screws with the nature boy! tonight, it's gonna be you and bradshaw taking on X-pac and Big Show!

(Next Monday...)

Flair:That's it, you have pissed of the nature boy WHOOO for the very last time Austin!! Tonight I throwing your ass in a special tag match against the NWO. And your partner is gonna be.........Bradshaw!

I hate to inform Lawler, but GWTW is not all about the shock value of Rhett Butler's final phrase. Yes, the phrase caused quite a stir - in 1939 - but that wasn't its' sole selling point. It's a well-written love story set against an equally well-written portrayal of Georgia of the late 1800's. Margaret Mitchell didn't have Rhett stand up on the stage - in front of everyone at the ball in Atlanta - and declare, "Scarlett, you are a MURDERER!" Nor did she include a storyline about Rhett humping Bonnie's corpse (for that juicy combination incest/necrophilia angle!) to make the book more exciting. Well-written storylines don't have to resort to cheap pop tactics.

Somehow I doubt that the Katie Vick angle will be beloved by apologists for slavery either. And I doubt it will inspire Neil Young to write a song about the South (which would naturally lead to an "answer song" about Alabama). The real shockingness of Gone With the Wind is how many people believe it's an accurate portrayal of the Civil War, Reconstruction, or anything remotely resembling reality. So, in a sense, the Katie Vick angle is far less offensive than GWTW, because (a) no one will remember it in six months, and (b) most everyone already recognizes it for the bullshit that it is.

How did Batgirl fall to her death and why did it make Jim Gordon angry with Batman and Nighthawk?

Time to flame the lame
Time to flame the lame

It's all about the game,
and how you play it
I hunger for control,
That why I'm with Stephanie
It's all about the lame,
and Vince has gotta pay me
I am the lame
You don't want to like me
I want control
I used to do Joanie
I am Kev's bitch
But people still hate me
I am the lame
and Zenk is going to flame me

You have to remember, when Gone with the Wind originally came out, Lawler had only held the Southern Title 11 times. I mean, it was early in Jerry's career.

Y'see, the WWF is alot like a slut at a party. I mean, it had a lot of good times and a lot of fun with a lot of guys (sometimes many at once). But now the crowd is thinning out, and she's getting desperate. So, she whips off her top and shows us her rack. The thing is, by now, everyone's either seen it already or don't care. If she came up with some ACTUAL REASON for people to look at her, they would. But alas, it's just a cheap ploy for attention.

Hopefully, our beloved WWF can find out a way to bring the casual fans back...or hell, just entertain US why don't they? We got money! We count for ratings! Smarks unite!

In conclusion: good angles lead to good ratings, cheap ratings stunts do not.

Actually, unless your in a Nielsen household you don't count for ratings. The only way to screw Vince in the ratings, or to have the ratings rise, is for a subgroup within that subgroup to either become repulsed by the product or become greatly interested in the product.

Exactly so, on both counts. (HGW7, not beating on you at all. Quite the contrary. If that weren't a plausible possible explanation, it wouldn't have warranted followup.)
