Uh wow. Writers should go on strike more often. Did NBC push for fast paced episodes (starting this week) because they knew a strike was coming? A whole lot of things were explained tonight. A whole lot!

Highlight of the night for me was a toss up.

1) Mohinder getting his nose demolished by Nikki

2) Hiro returning to present day. I loved when he put on his glasses and became Mr. Naive Nerdy Hiro again. Hero Hiro was never that appealing to me

I'm also stuck in bit of a mass fuss with Nightmare Man and Son. I really should quit thinking about it.

Nice touch with "Adam" at the end.

Good stuff over all!

I was surprised that West was actually just some douchy kid that liked Claire and not some conniving company brat assigned to assassinate Bennett. He totally seemed way too uncaring for Claire's wishes not to have his own agenda. As much as I like Bennett, if he showed Claire the picture of him dead and her with a boyfriend, I can't see her standing by West. He needs to stop acting stupid.

The Kensei-is-big bad-Adam was a nice touch and explains WHY we had to sit through Hiro being stupid in the past. I forget if anyone noticed Kensei in that photograph that is being bandied about. (Or was that taken after Kensei was locked up.) Being immortal and having 300 years to plan your revenge had better mean that Kensei's plans from this point on are awesome. I wonder if Hiro at any point mentioned what year he had traveled from. (Hiro's ability continues to irritate me with his inability to go to a specific point in time. There's no reason he couldn't have gone right back to the moment when he left, so Ando wouldn't have had to read Hiro's messages. And how useless it is that Hiro hid those messages somewhere that they could be found only after he had disappeared. He didn't find out until tonight that they stopped Sylar. Why didn't he leave messages for Ando and everyone about that elsewhere?)

That is awesome that Caitlyn got stuck in the shitty future. Assuming they stop the virus, is she forever stuck in an alternate disaster timeline? She needs to come back at some point as an enemy for Peter. It wasn't his fault that he ditched her, but she doesn't have to know that.

Matt vs. Nightmare Man was suprisingly enjoyable.

Mohinder breaking down and spilling everything to the company was interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if Bob is in league with Adam and this is all part of some grand plan to screw Hiro/unleash the virus. It looks like next week will explain alot of what happened in those intervening four months to clear up any suspicions.

You believe me, don't you?

I pretty much agree. Pretty good stuff around except I can't stand the Claire stuff.

I think it helped that the twins and New Orleans girl didn't take up any air time too. Perhaps their stories weren't really going to unfold until the second half of the season and they decided to cut back on their amount of air time since the second half probably won't happen this season?

I liked the episode, but here's my one major gripe:

You know you are facing a guy who can mess with your brain. If you start seeing things that don't make sense or that shouldn't be there, PERHAPS YOU OUGHTA TELL YOUR PARTNER. Y'know, that perhaps the mindbender is around.

Come to think of it, I also am not crazy about The Company presenting Claire as "The one who can save us." Seems a little too much like last year.

I like the bit that the pictures were out of order. Now we know what's supposed to come, but no idea in what order. Nice.

So, who is actually good and who is bad? Has The Company just released the virus that will kill the world?

Uh, maybe that's the point? "Save the cheerleader, save the world" may have meaning beyond stopping the bomb in New York.

Oh, and also:

Easily the best episode of the season (by the way, the title was "Out of Time"). I had a feeling that Kensei was going to wind up being the big bad guy of the season. Parkman's battle with Nightmare Man was pretty great, and it resolved in a way that they could bring back the Nightmare Man if they wanted to use him again later on. I'm still not sure that West isn't a company man, the bit with him freaking out about Mr. Bennet could still just be him puting up an act.

Eh, fine. As long as they never ever use that line again.

On further reflection, I guess they are taking their turns with each of the Heroes being 'necessary' to their plan (Parkman for his power vs. Nightmare Man, Mohinder for his blood, and now apparantly Claire for her ability to save Nikki (and against Adam)).

I'll still agree with West being a potential Company guy. He runs into Claire, now Bob has a folder on Claire and knows where she is? Could be a possibility. Or maybe they just followed the leads from Noah's murdering of his mentor back to his current location. It's fun to speculate.

You're all forgetting the big plot point: SYLAR IS PLANTING TREES IN NEW YORK CITY! What could it all mean?

...what? That wasn't part of the show?

I thought this was a great episode as well, and I'm looking forward to the "Four Months Earlier" episode next week.

Is Kensei really so pissed off about his girl kissing another guy that he carries vengeance in his heart for centuries? Get over it dude! Plenty of fish, yadda yadda.

It looks like everything comes to a head on December 3, with that possible new ending.

Questions that occurred to me, but probably not the Heroes writers:

1) If Claire’s regenerative power is the key to curing the virus, wouldn’t it have been a smart move to foresee the possibility of the virus mutating and taking whatever they might need from Peter, who absorbed Claire’s powers, or the immortal “Adam Monroe,” when they were both under Company control?

2) Since Peter has interacted with Adam, does that mean he too is now an ageless immortal? And do you think beheading would be a way to kill either of them? (This rhetorical question is really just a Highlander reference.)

3) Peter took Caitlin to 2008 and then left her there when he returned to 2007. So what happens to the time displaced Caitlin if/when Peter changes the timeline? Does she get stuck in an alternate timeline? Does the entire world just change around her? Does she notice the change? Do any of these possibilities involve more forced showers? I hate temporal physics.

Mohinder getting punched in the face = happy John.

Here's a more fun question:

Do Claire and Adam have identical powers, and if so does that mean that she will be an 18 year old blonde cheerleader forever?

I actually think they will address this, given how they've handled the telepathic characters (i.e. Parkman being able to do everything his Dad does, just being mentally blocked over it, along with the writers saying in interviews that Candace could have learned to use her powers the same way as well, if she had thought of it and tried hard enough). I expect we'll find that at some point, Kensai willfully chose to just stop aging.

I didn't have too much trouble with this, because of who it was. If, say, Mohinder started seeing his dad, maybe there's a reason to gripe. But Niki seeing dead people telling her to do bad things isn't exactly new for her.

Plus, given how Nathan and Matt truly believed the scenarios they were in last week despite just having been in Papa Parkman's appartment, makes me believe that he can influence people in a way like Eden could. Except Matt, because Matt has the same powers.

I like the Hiro vs Kensei story so far, and I'm interested to see where they're going with Peter vs Kensei and Peter vs the Future.

The one big question I'm having is what the payoff for having Syler and the Wonder Twins steal Claire's car is going to be.

I've actually always thought that Claire & Kensei/Adam's self-healing powers were different - Claire's are as instantaneous as possible, while Kensei/Adam's require him to actually *die* before they kick in.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

Just as I was about to take this off of my DVR schedule, they redeem themselves with this episode. It wasn't great by the standards set last season, but it was good enough to keep me interested. It was the best ep of the season to me, but that is not saying much. But at least something happened this week.

Not so. When Kensei/Adam appeared to Peter at the end of the episode & "caught" Peter's lightening blast, his hand immediately healed.

I think it's very likely that Mama Petrelli had an affair with Kensei/Adam & the result of that affair was Nathan. This would make Kensei/Adam Claire's grandfather & would provide a direct link to the similar powers...

Television News
'Heroes' Creator Apologizes to Fans
Tim Kring admits mistakes were made at the beginning of season 2, but promises to get back on track

On the chilly Monday morning that Hollywood's writers went on strike, Heroes creator Tim Kring called from the streets outside the Hollywood studio where his NBC series is shot. ''Yes, I'm picketing my own show,'' says the 50-year-old writer-producer. ''So surreal.''

But Kring wasn't calling to discuss labor woes — he was calling to explain why Heroes, suffering a creative decline and a 15 percent ratings drop from the same period last year, went from Human Torch hot to Iceman cold. The good news? A turnaround appears to be under way. After weeks of sluggish storytelling, the Nov. 5 episode recaptured some of last season's fanciful energy. We've also seen the next two episodes — and we like them, too. The cliff-hangers are back. Narrative purpose has been discovered. Old favorites like Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) and Horn-Rimmed Glasses (Jack Coleman) take center stage. Even more encouraging: Kring himself is keenly aware that Heroes is broken. Here's his candid critique:

THE PACE IS TOO SLOW ''We assumed the audience wanted season 1 — a buildup of intrigue about these characters and the discovery of their powers. We taught [them] to expect a certain kind of storytelling. They wanted adrenaline. We made a mistake.''

THE WORLD-SAVING STAKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED SOONER The premonition of nuclear apocalypse created a larger context that unified every story line last season. Kring now sees that Volume 2 (the first 11 episodes of season 2) would have been better served if Peter's vision of viral Armageddon had appeared in the season premiere rather than episode 7. ''We took too long to get to the big-picture story,'' he says.

THE ROOKIES DIDN'T GREET THEMSELVES PROPERLY New Heroes Monica (Dana Davis), Maya (Dania Ramirez), and Alejandro (Shalim Ortiz) ''shouldn't have been introduced in separate story lines that felt unattached to the show. The way we introduced Elle (Kristen Bell) — by weaving her in via Peter's story line — is a more logical way to bring new characters into the show.'' (That said, Kring says a few newbies won't make it beyond this second volume, which wraps Dec. 3.)

HIRO WAS IN JAPAN WAY TOO LONG Hiro's (Masi Oka) time-bending adventure in 17th-century Japan — where he mentored samurai hero Takezo Kensei (David Anders) — finally came to an end on Nov. 5. But Kring says it ''should have [lasted] three episodes. We didn't give the audience enough story to justify the time we allotted it.''

YOUNG LOVE STINKS Kring regrets sticking Claire (Hayden Panettiere) with a super-dud boyfriend and forcing Hiro to moon over a cutesy princess. ''I've seen more convincing romances on TV,'' he admits. ''In retrospect, I don't think romance is a natural fit for us.''

Yet while Heroes has finally found some dramatic traction, this second volume is pretty much a wash. The Dec. 3 episode has been retooled to function as a potential season finale — a move inspired by the writers' strike and a desire to give the show ''a clean slate'' when it goes back into production for Volume 3. At that point, Kring wants to craft a rebooted Heroes that can attract new fans and win back those who've tuned out: ''The message is that we've heard the complaints — and we're doing something about it.''

http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20158840,00.html

No more romance? That's a dumb conclusion to draw. How about good romance and not trite romance (Hiro) or creepy romance (Claire)?

Wait, there's more from TV Guide:

Heroes: Your Burning Questions Answered!
by Michael Logan

In a recent TVGuide.com Asks blog, we gave readers a chance to fire questions at the producers of Heroes (Mondays at 9 pm/ET, NBC). Series producers Tim Kring and Jeph Loeb, as well as several of the show's stars, share their insights.

Will Mohinder ever have a power?
Not likely. "He's Mr. Science and was conceived to be the one guy in this vortex who does not have special abilities," creator/executive producer Tim Kring says. "We have no plans to change that." That's fine with Sendhil Ramamurthy: "I'd be sorely disappointed if I got a power at this point — it would just be weird. But I wouldn't mind turning out to be the puppet master of this whole thing." By the way, anyone arguing that Mohinder technically does have a power in that his body carries the antibodies to the Shanti virus won't get very far with Kring. "That's still a scientific thing, not a special ability," he insists. "If it were a power, then there'd be a lot of heroes out there in our world."

Will Hana (Stana Katic) ever be seen again? What about Claude (Christopher Eccleston)?
Though Israeli freedom fighter Hana died in outer space in a Heroes graphic novel last spring, her consciousness survives. "We will see her again on the show at some point," promises co-executive producer Jeph Loeb. But invisible man Claude? That's trickier. "We wanted Christopher back this season because he's so integrated into the mythology of our show, not only because he was Peter's mentor but also because of his connection to HRG," says Kring. "But it probably won't work because of his schedule — he's too in demand." Cracks Loeb, "Hopefully we can get him back by Season 7!"

Why didn't Isaac warn HRG about the painting that predicted his death?
A few possible reasons. "Isaac was in a drug-addled fugue state when he created his paintings," Kring says. "There could also be a moral dilemma in telling someone they're going to die. If you had the ability to know the circumstances of your death, would you want that information?" Loeb tosses us another option: "If you go back and look at Isaac's last day, there is an implication that he painted a lot more that day. This is a device we may return to. There may be even more Isaac paintings out there."

What the hell is Niki's power, anyway?
This had the execs a little touchy, but TV Guide got tons o' questions on the subject, so here goes: "We thought this was very clear on the air," Loeb says. "Niki's power is the same as her alternate personality Jessica's: unbelievable strength. They're the same person. Niki discovered her special ability through her split personality, but it was always her ability."

It's kind of weird that two single straight guys, Mohinder and Matt, are in charge of little Molly. Is this arrangement legal?
"In reality, no one has talked about adoption or legal custody," admits Loeb. "The opportunity to do our version of My Two Dads was too delightful to deal with details." Actor Jack Coleman (HRG) also weighed in here, noting that this isn't the first no-hassle kiddie custody on Heroes. "There's nothing official about HRG's adoption of Claire," he says. "Kaito [George Takei] simply handed her to me on a roof. We're not really concerned much with legalities on Heroes, you know. We take liberties with reality. Here's another spoiler: People can't fly."

Why so many new characters this season?
"Heroes is like a shark — it's got to keep moving," Kring insists. "If this world becomes too insular — if it's only about the characters we've gotten used to — then we lose the sense of wonderment that this phenomenon is happening in many places." Loeb reminds us that several of the old favorites — Peter, Claire, Niki, Micah, Matt, Sylar — in essence started over this season "and that required new locales and new characters for them to interact with. And the new powers are fun for the audience to watch." Those who are crabbing about too many newbies "should be patient," Loeb says. "They haven't gotten to the Dec. 3 episode, when we do our big housecleaning!"
