Mercy, Trauma and Law & Order: Original Recipe (how'd no one start a thread on THAT?!) also getting the ax today.

Hey, doesn't NBC still need prime-time programs?

Here's a list of all the new shows expected to be announced by each network at the upfronts next week.

http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com/2010/05/2010-pilot-orders.html

NBC is not hurting for prime time hourlongs in the fall. They're so confident in what new stuff they've got, they axed a bunch of old stuff, like the aforementioned Heroes and the ancient Law and Order.

So... at this point should I even bother watching the five episodes that have been sitting on my DVR for the past several months?

Oh yeah, there are other shows in that link.

"Law & Order: Los Angeles" ("LOLA")

Um, excuse me? What? Here are the things about this I cannot wrap my head around: 1) Starting a brand new L&O show while simultaneously getting rid of an old one; 2) L&O set somewhere other than NYC (the UK one doesn't count); 3) LOLA? Really? But I guess L&O spinoffs have generally been successful. Can't fault them much on this one, it just feels... wrong.

    CANCELLED

    "FlashForward" (ABC)

I knew it was coming, but just the same.

    RENEWED

    "V" (ABC; 13 episodes)

Whew!

It ended with enough closure that I am ok with it. Yet, does the world new more cop, medical and lawyer shows? I would expect a lawyer show with David Tennant, but that got canned too. NBC's football program is all that is left for me.

I hope two of those new shows aren't about vampires like I assume them to be from the titles...

If you're talking about "Love Bites" and "Mr. Sunshine", they aren't. "The Cape" isn't either. If you're talking about a different show, well, you must have vampires on the brain.

Love Bites must be Werewolf comedy then? The second one was Kindreds... but I'm old school like that.

I have the entire season sitting on my DVR. I didn't want to watch them because I love time travel stories but I had a feeling it wouldn't do any better than Terminator:TSSC so I never got around to watching them, just in case.

Guess I can free up some space.

That's a shame about Heroes, in that the show had so much potential and outside of a few awesome episodes (Company Man), it never came anywhere near where it should have been. I appreciate the irony of Heroes finally falling despite NBC's constant marketing blitzes for the season premieres (which basically screamed, "We promise its going to be good this time!"), whereas Chuck continues to roll on with seemingly little actual network promotion. (Thank you Subway!)

As for Flashforward, I'm two episodes behind, but I think the show picked up significantly after the hiatus. That said, I think the only surprise among all of this is that V got picked up. The only thing making that show watchable is Elizabeth Mitchell (I LOVED her reactions when she found out Lisa was a V and Anna is her mother this week.) V and Flashforward and Heroes are all trying to be Lost-style ensemble shows, and none of them managed to pull off what Lost did. Everyone talks about Lost's mythology and the sci-fi nature, but the one thing the producers got right was to focus on the characters early on and save the mythology for later (when people will be too invested to give up). The reason people love Lost is because everyone fell in love with the characters during season 1, when the redemption arcs were hitting pretty heavy. Outside of Bennett, and MAYBE early-season Hiro, is there character on any of these shows (Heroes, Flashforward, V) that I will or would miss and be disappointed to not have on my tv next year? Even as much as I love Elizabeth Mitchell, she's still Juliet with a gun and a kid and not Erica Evans yet.

(Then again, I've only been half paying attention to V since I'm still reacting to Lost while its on...)

I may have to grab the season 1 and 2 DVD's of Fringe and start getting into that. I've heard its pretty good.

And was that a Kindred: The Embrace reference?

At the beginning of this TV season, I decided to finally abandon three shows which I had been a big fan of at one point but which, for varying numbers of years, had been disappointing me greatly: 24, Law & Order, and Heroes. I'm just sayin'.

I have been liking it all the way, and the last few weeks have been awesome. I think it's the best show on TV at the moment.

I hear ya. I thought it was pretty good and had definitely picked up after the break.

I had vague hopes that the international audiences would be enough to make them think about giving it another season, but alas, no.
