Almost no one is watching anymore, but I have to admit, I sort of like Heroes this season. Really. So far, this has been a perfectly decent, acceptable, even enjoyable season. I like Claire and her more-than-BFF and their love that dare not speak its name. Claire and Noah have the best rapport of any of the characters. I liked the Hiro/Charlie episode last week. I'm always happy to see The Haitian. The sins of the father being the reason Invisible College Girl targeted Claire was good. Even the Sylar/Parkman thing has grown on me. There's a greater emphasis on the characters this year and it's working. I'm finally starting to like most of these people.
Having said that, come on, Heroes is just fucking with me, right? No less than four characters loudly and openly spoke about their superpowers and their histories in Claire's dorm room with the door WIDE OPEN and students actually wandering the halls.
And unfortunately, Mohinder's back next week. Anyone miss him? Anyone?
This episode beat my expectations due to Matt/Sylar being previewed as the big stars. I thought those two were the strongest parts of the episode showing how far both will go to stop the other. Disappointing NBC spoiled that with the preview. I am getting tired people getting in between Claire and HRG. Samuel is very convincing when he pretends to be earnest. I didn't expect Nathan's return. I do think Samuel will live through this season, but the Carnival itself will be destroyed either by Sylar, what is left of the Heroes or Samuel tricked into undermining it. Their ratings are getting better, but I do think with Comcast buying NBC on Friday, its days are numbered. Yet, they are bringing Chuck back early which was to replace it after December, so we will see. I didn't miss Mohinder at all and think Samuel's voice-overs are creepier.
Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you... When the rumors were flying around about one of the male leads on Heroes getting ignominiously pink-slipped (translation: he only found out he was getting fired when he first read his death scene in the script), I thought for sure that it was going to be Parkman, and it was going to be because of exactly what happened at the end of this episode. It was ultimately revealed that

was the subject of those rumors, but part of me still believes Parkman won't make it out of this season alive because it's really the only way to ensure that evil Sylar never rises again, and it would be quite the noble and heroic sacrifice on Parkman's part. We'll see, though.
I'm pretty sure we're going to see Charlie again at some point, especially if the series ends up getting canceled, since Hiro is one of the few characters on the show that does deserve a happy ending after all he's been through. Of course, they've got to make him do Samuel's bidding for a while before we get to that point, though.
The big weakness of this season, however (and not that it's stopping me from watching, because it isn't), is that we're almost halfway through and we still don't know what Samuel is trying to do. He's a commanding presence and we clearly know what the forces that are motivating him are; but they still haven't explained fully to what end yet. And when does his effort to recruit Peter get started?
smark/net attack Advisory System Status is: Elevated (Holds; June 18, 2006) While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.
