411 Games has a preview up for the next Smackdown installment, due this fall. my comments are in italics.
Features
-Exclusive story mode with original storylines developed by WWE Staff Writers.
I only hope this is what Heyman has been doing with his free time.
-Unique Superstar abilities featuring real-life attributes of strength, submission, technique, speed, and stamina.
Does that mean Steiner will blow up 2 minutes in?
-New and improved controls including an in-depth countering and interactive submission system.
Not sure what they mean by "interactive", but any change to the submission system is a welcome one.
-All-new match types including Bra & Panty, First Blood, and Elimination Chamber.
I'm not one of those typse that says blood makes a good game, but i'm glad they realized that it's a part of the sport and included it. I can do without the bra and panty matches, though. (Could be intersting to see how they...ahem...pull it off.)
-Enhanced production values featuring dynamic camera transitions, an improved audio experience, Superstar voice over and more-realistic animations.
If an improved audio experience means that the kicks don't sound like explosions anymore, I'm in.
WWE Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain is set to release during the Fourth Quarter (fall/winter) 2003.
Nothing about the CAW mode, but I expect that will be improved upon as well. All in all, sounds like a winner!

Uh oh.
Unique Superstar abilities featuring real-life attributes of strength, submission, technique, speed, and stamina.
This could either rock or... not. I guess it depends on how "real-life" these attributes are.
New and improved controls including an in-depth countering and interactive submission system.
By "interactive submission system", I hope they mean "we now have the ability to strengthen, weaken, break, or keep the hold going." A way to move away/to the ropes would be welcome as well, as would double-team submissions, like "crossface/walls of jericho."
All-new match types including Bra & Panty, First Blood, and Elimination Chamber.
Be still, my heart. *yawn*

Commentary improvements would be nice. Plus options to DISABLE whatever "enhanced production values" are included.
Thus far, I am a bit sketical. My feeling on the whole Smackdown series is that the first and third of the Smackdown series felt unfinished. Personally, I hated the first one, loved the second, disliked JBI, and really enjoy SYM.
It seems they aren't really able to flush out the changes until they have a second go at it.

I guess it will mean more of a no Mercy style submission. If i press buttons hard I might get out of the hold or reach the ropes (the biggest miss in the SYM imo)
I sorta hope it also includes tapping out manually, would be funny to do

Hopefully it'll also involve the ability of tag partners to break up holds. That was one of the few good things about RAW on the Xbox. It would also be nice if the computer sold the right (ie correct) leg.
EDIT: Almost forgot, does it actually make the slightest difference whether you put a CAW as a heel or a face in SYM? I do my damndest to piss the shit out of all and sundry and the crowd still bloody cheers me regardless. Just once I'd like to be booed out the building after winning me some gold.
Oh and other than that if theres one thing I want in Here comes the Pain (HCTP?) it is of course Matt Facts

Appreciate your love for the questions of life like that of a closed box or a locked door. Do not permit the temptation of any human's sacred doctrine to be your fleeting answer. Let the joy of wonder overcome your desire for knowledge, and when you do, the questions themselves will become your answers.

That would have been nice at the start...but will we be limited to two or three voice samples from each member of the roster?>
I'd hope they would be able to top Attitude in the voiceover department. As much as i couldn't stand the game i loved the fact that The Rock had 50+ different verbal taunts.
As far as the rest of the game goes?
Blood is most definatly welcome. Will the new "improved superstar abilities" Extend to blood? I'd like to see triple H bleed his heart out while HBK dribbles a lil' bit.
Elimation chamber sounds cool if they can do it right.
Need to fix HIAC. Way to easy to fall off in SYM.
I like the idea of a new submission system. It was always a pain to have to reapply the Sub after 3 seconds.
Gotta fix the table animations. Hitting a top rope move or powerbomb through the table always looked like pure shit.
Can we get some specialized finishers? Like Brocks Ringpost f-5 or Kurt's top rope Angle Slam? Tell me that wouldn't be cool! And more weapons finishers too! I wanna Cripple someone with HHH's sledge. Or bust out a 1 man Conchairto with Christian.

I hope the countering sys. isn't like legends games because that sucks ass and slows the game down.
I do think the need a better submission sys. because this 2 pulls on someone just suck.
I want better double teams moves and be able to use them any where.
Blood is going to be cool because nothing more then makeing someone bleed that's cool
I think that some of the unlockables need to be something I want to unlock. I don't care for the areas or videos, I want is some of the legend of are sports to be unlock able. Like Andre or Arn Anderson back in the day. Maybe The Brainbusters or some of the other old tags team (sorry can't spell Demolistion right now) I mean they got all these people they can use and they don't they give me Linda has a unlockable or hidden WHO CARES.
Anyways that my though as of now.
Great Muta is a wrestling GOD!! praise the Great Muta.

At WWE's current rate, most of the legends will be on the roster.
