| #1 Posted on 19.10.02 0142.12 | Okay, I called up the girl I have a thing for on the phone tonight, and we got to talkin'. I was watching TV whilst speaking with her, and noticed the highlights from the Calgary Stampeders game on TV. I remarked "Oh man, the Stamps lost." to which she replied "That sucks." before mentioning she had never been to a Stamps game. The wheels began to turn in my head... I can either: (A) Spend $40 for 2 tickets to the last home game on Oct. 27, where hopefully some romancing will be done. [My theory is that since it's cold up north, I'll bring a blanket and we can stay warm that way...] (B) Do nothing and try romancin' her another day in another way. (C) Give up entirely on her. (D) Go gay.
Gee, guess what I'm picking!
Any-hoo, I ask you, the denizens of Wienerville for your advice on what to do in this situation! You're my only hope...other than the guys at work...and other places...

Well, it's hardly an exact science, but here's what I'd do.
1. Analyze how hard the tickets are to get. If they're easy enough to get, skip down to 3.
deux. Buy the tickets.
3. Tell her you have tickets to the last home game. Would she like to go?
Yes. You're golden. No, and you've got tickets. Scalp 'em or go with one of your cronies. No, and you don't have tickets. Take the 40 buck-a-reenos and try another approach. Maybe make her a pot of chili (see other thread)
Just don't go gay. You wouldn't be good at it.

a) If she says yes, BOOYAH. b) If not, then go with a 'hommes' of sorts.
-If (b) happens, then go about trying a different way. - Either way, GO FOR IT DUDE!

| #4 Posted on 19.10.02 0815.26 | I'll bet $100 she's not really interested in that stupid game, she was just making conversation...and she knew nothing else to talk about with you. Skip the game and get to know her better through more conversation. Find out HER interests, not yours, then act on them.

That is, watch her when she talks to you or her friends or anyone. Does she focus on herself or them? If she's always talking about herself, forget her and move on, its not worth it. | Simba

| #6 Posted on 19.10.02 0909.53 | I had a similar situation arise when I had tickets to a Bruins game. She ended up going with me and we had a good time. Of course, I got rid of her a month later. (or at least that's my story) Hey, what do you want from a 30 year old man that will travel 1000 miles to attend a professional wrestling show? Try explaining THAT to someone you're trying to woo.
Good luck!

| #7 Posted on 19.10.02 1138.25 | I always feel like I want to just jump into threads like these, but I know NOTHING and stumbled into love by threatening a shy, wonderful girl with my mom's vibrator in one of those "Mr. Smooth" moments.
Now that I'm here, I want to display my lack of wit and go into detail about the turning gay option, but I can't help it- I want to be serious.
I say go for the game thing, let her know that you got them FOR HER so that she could go see a game, even if it turns out she couldn't give a shit about it, but subtly (or maybe not so subtly) end up paying more attention to her than the game. She'll know you care about the time together and that you weren't just looking for somebody to watch football and eat tacos with.
Or yeah, stay at home, watch the game on tv (if this is an option), invite her over to watch, and then you've got home field advantage for your romancing instead of copping a feel in front of a few thousand drunk guys in body paint.
Or just buy her 40 bucks worth of weed, you hippie POT SMOKER!

| #9 Posted on 19.10.02 1416.10 | I agree with Parts Unknown that she probably isn't really interested in the game and that you should do something that she likes.
HOWEVER, I dont think it would hurt to ask her anyway, because after all, if she does like you then maybe she will take the above advice and do something that the other person is interested in as well. See what I'm saying.
If she says no because she isn't interested in the game well that's ok, do something else.
If she says no because she isn't interesteed in you, well atleast you are braver then some men I know.
Also, who are the Calgary Stampeders? My first guess, only because it's in Calgary was hockey. But hockey is just starting and you said it was their last home game. Does the minor league season happen at a different time? Or is it another sport?

| #10 Posted on 19.10.02 1434.54 | The Stamps are Calgary's CFL franchise and the defending Grey Cup Champions. With the loss yesterday, they're officially out of the playoffs(for the first time since 1988, in fact).
The last home game of the season probably will be easy to get tickets to, but if she's not a really big football fan, do something else. It's going to be cold and miserable(with the game being meaningless).
You could take her to a Flames game and impress her by streaking and knocking yourself out like this guy did. | Freeway

So, any-hoo, I am 90% certain to get tickets to the game, and I've secured the dinero to do so...and I told my best buddy that if the gal isn't keen on going (sez "no"), he's my back-up. He's down with that.
It's all falling into place now!
And the game isn't gonna be cold and miserable... I'll bring a big blanket. After all, blankets + cold = snuggling. Right? Right?

That is a little soon to count on snuggling, especially if she doesn't really like football. Find out what she likes to do and pick something that you both like. You are getting to far ahead of yourself.

I'm sure your buddy will be thrilled at that prospect!
I would NOT ask her, and instead, just ask her if she wants to hang out, and get her in the car and ask her what She wants to do. THen, DO IT, and ACT LIKE YOU LIKE IT. Use that time to really get to know her, and then, well then decide if you want to further things. That way, if you are all cool to her, but not really wanting more, you still have good practice with being a cool boyfriend (doing shit you dont want to do).

Sounds like you had your mind made up when you started this thread. I guess you just wanted verification from the rest of us. Good luck at any rate, but I wouldn't count on the whole blanket thing.
BTW, didn't you seek our advice a couple of months ago on taking a co-worker to a movie? Or was that RageRockr? If it was you, whose advice did you follow and how did it turn out?
