I say Jason Kidd is the best player in the NBA. My co-worker says Tracy McGrady. I know I'm right, but quite honestly, I don't quite know why. Help me out here, I'm getting killed in this arguement (although it should be noted that my co-worker is a former collegate basketball player).

It seems that I am - in no particular order - Zack Morris, John Adams, a Siren, Aphrodite, Cletus the Slack Jawed Yokel, Amy-Wynn Pastor, Hydrogen, Spider-Man, and Boston.

Best player would be Tim Duncan. Kidd is consistently a sub 40% shooter (and until last season had never done anything to help his team go far in the playoffs), and McGrady reminds me of Dominique Wilkens (all flash, will never win a thing.)

I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said.

I would definitely say McGrady is more talented and a much better scorer...but if I had to start up a team in the NBA today, Kidd would be my first choice, cause in the mold of Bird and Magic, he just makes everyone around him much, much better. Just look at the Marbury-Kidd trade from a couple of years ago, and see which team got much better, and which team is stuck wallowing in mediocrity. So I would say Kidd is the premier team player in the league today, and McGrady (along with Kobe) are the most gifted individual players in the league. But looking at their respective teams underachieving records, I would take Kidd anyday to lead me to a championship.

Dont be so hard on Mcgrady, hes still young. He has Years ahead of him to perfect his game. People forget that they said the same thing about Micheal Jordan. up until his seventh year (when he won the title), he was considered a great but selfish indivisual player that would never win a title. So remember that when youre judging Mcgrady and Kobe Bryant.

My pick for best player is Allen Iverson. I think pound for pound hes better than any other player in the league. Hes tough, hes fearless and hes going 100 miles an hour every night on the floor. People knock him because of his off the court shit, but if I was starting a team I want him first. But thats just me.

It really depends on how you define best. They're both awesome. If you want a guy to get you a triple double go for Kidd. If you want a guy who can light it up for 50 go for T Mac.
I predict neither of you wins this argument. If he's bigger than you, tell him he's right.

Jason Kidd is the real MVP. Check out his numbers for this season. His shooting percentage is in the 45% range. He shoots 3s and can carry a team on his back with his scoring. He sets the up-pace tempo for the young Nets by going full-speed every play. And he's the best passer in the game.

Now that Grant Hill is healthy, see which team wins more games. I'd say the Nets because of Kidd.

I feel Kobe is better than McGrady. This recent dogging it on defense debacle with McGrady was an embarassment. Horace Grant called him out and he got bounced from the team when Doc Rivers had to defend McGrady. It's a good thing he wasn't teammates with Charles Oakley or T-Mac may have gotten his ass kicked. You can't be classified as the "best" when you're walking back on defense.

Merc explained it best. T-Mac is explosive, and you never know when he's gonna light someone up for 40-50 points. He's more likely to win a scoring title than Kidd is.

Jason Kidd, on the other hand, is more of an all-around player. He won't hit 50 points, but he gets a lot of rebounds for a point guard and is better at running an offense and passing the ball off to get others involved.

This is nice, cuz they are my two favorite players.

However, I give the slight, and I mean SLIGHT, edge to TMac. He's just too explosive and talented not to pick. JKidd is the only player in his class right now.

Yeah, but it doesn't matter if Hill is back Kidd still has the better team to work with. Hill is on the downside of his career already, and it more than likely in a year or two be McGrady/Miller instead of McGrady/Hill. But still Kidd has the much better complete team so saying he's better because of amount of wins isn't really fair. If Kidd was winning all the games himself then the Suns would've been better when he was there. Now McGrady on the other hand does win games single handedledy and does it pretty often as well.

Of course if i was choosing one person to build a team around it would probably be Duncan. Sure it would be great to have a great point guard, but you can get by without one. It's been years since a championship team had a great point guard. I'd much rather go with size and get Duncan. McGrady or Garnett would close seconds just because of how many games they win completely on their own. Plus the size they are at their positions makes it very hard to guard them. And like it's been pointed out McGrady even still has more room to grow.

Neither of them really has much in the way of superstar support. Kidd has Martin, Harris, Jefferson. Martin has been pretty good over a couple of years, but Harris and Jefferson? Not exactly proven performers.

TMac sometimes has Hill and Miller. So yeah, Kidd has slightly better support, but not by much.

You guys are all wrong. All of ya. I'm no Lakers fan, but even I have to admit that Shaq is still the best player in the NBA. Not McGrady. Not Kobe. Not Kidd. Certainly not Iverson-- anyone who takes 40 shots a game like he does ought to be averaging around 35, 40 PPG.

Since the original dispute was between TMac and Kidd I really don't think Shaq comes into it.
That said he's certainly the most dominant, whether you can say he's the best player, skill wise, is another matter.

Aye, Shaq wasn't originally mentioned, but they were arguing over who the best player in the NBA is. In my opinion, they're both wrong. In terms of dominance, that is-- good point, Merc.

Shaq: Living proof that dominance does not correlate with talent.
