So, a good friend of mine has given me a record player. This one, to be exact:

I know nothing about record players. It doesn't have any speakers. When I look at that page I linked to, I see a bunch of stuff that means nothing to me. Can anyone recommend what kind of speakers? I'm not having much luck via Google.

Based on the specs, I don't think you can just plug speakers into this. I believe it's designed to be plugged into an amplified receiver.

You'll definitely need some kind of amplified receiver for the turntable - especially one with a "Phono" input, or, if it doesn't have a "Phono" input, you want to run some kind of pre-amp between you and which ever line-in on your receiver you use.

Here's some basic information I'd recommend reviewing.

Excellent! My only other advice is that the receiver, with or without a preamp, should not be terribly expensive. You should be able to get everything you need, including cables, for under $200.

To counter-balance my previous cat thread... Genetic Secrets of Man's Best Friend Revealed Funny, but I was wondering about some of this just the other day. I think getting the Scientific American RSS feed was a REALLY good idea.
