It's been a foregone conclusion for some time now really, and upon Alonzo Mourning's retirement, Pat Riley
said it was going to happen, but now they've set a date: The Miami Heat will
retire Mourning's #33 jersey on March 30 at halftime of a game against the Orlando Magic.
Mourning's jersey will be the first Heat jersey retired by the team, which has also honored Michael Jordan and Dan Marino by retiring the numbers 23 and 13, respectively.
A seven-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year, Mourning was also, fittingly, part of Miami's 2006 NBA Championship team, even though it was as Shaquille O'Neal's backup.
My guess is that, ultimately, Dwayne Wade's #3 will be the next one to go up there, unless the Heat decide to retire #99 for Wayne Gretzky or something.
