I went to 7-Eleven to get some coffee this morning, and they had a whiteboard advertisement talking about the prices of their coffee.

On it was written by one of the employees: "In the words of Joe Biden, it's a big f-----' deal!"

An interesting thing I didn't know that is contained in the legislation: Restaurants will be required to post calorie counts. If a chain has 20 or more locations, they'll have to clearly post the calorie count of their menu items.

Last chance to get a relatively guilt-free Baconator!

Probably more, actually. It's not hard at all to fudge the numbers for calorie counts, serving sizes, calories from fat, fat content, etc. Even stuff that you know is bad for you sometimes winds up being even worse for you. And this is before you start factoring in outright lies, which is something that some companies will definitely do.

One of my favorites are those Otis Spunkmeyer muffins. Looking at the Wild Blueberry muffin, it lists at 340 calories/serving. However, the serving size is 1/2 muffin for a whopping 680 calories for one muffin. Does anyone actually eat 1/2 a muffin?

I wonder if there's going to be any issues with the bill having to pass thru the House again?

Taco Bell has already shattered those dreams. My typical post-game, beginning-of-the-long-ass-drive-home, cheap-as-balls Taco Bell "see, you can eat relatively healthy!" meal of a couple of fresco bean burritos, along with some other road-friendly item, ends up on the wrong side of the 1000 Calorie mark. (It doesn't help that the "other road-friendly item" is the five-layer, 550 Calorie burrito, but I would've thought the bean burritos were under 300 a pop.)

So yeah, nothing like finding out you've just been doing it wrong. -_-

The calorie count in two bean burritos is more than the calorie count in one In & Out Double Double. (Although the calories from fat is in the two burritos' favor, so...)

Edit: A Wendy's large fries: 590 calories. Wow.

Burgerville (a hamburger chain around here) actually posts nutritional information for your specific order on your receipt. So if you substitute a different kind of fries, cheese, bread, or sauce it gives you the adjusted calorie count.

Well that's interesting. I remember Checker's/Rally's, has refused for the longest time to post nutritional information for their products. Even now as I go to their website, there is a link for nutrition information, but it fails to load. I guess they won't be able to hide much longer.

Is that something that hasn't been nationwide, because they've all been putting the calorie numbers on the menus here in Washington State. (¡Viva Jack in the Box's 1200-calorie large Oreo milkshakes!)

Wish this would have gone into effect 60 days ago when I started my diet. I've been using an iPhone app to look up stuff or my computer. It's a bit stunning at first.

Might be a really good thing for people to have to think about just how many calories they are eating.

I like knowing the calories. It isn't going to stop me if I'm really craving something, but it sure makes me think if I REALLY want something.

And really that is the point, Lise. This is stuff that should have been done years ago, but has only taken hold thanks to the obese/diet craze of the last few years. I grab fast food twice a week due to running around. I am thinking salad when I go to Red Robin tomorrow.

It certainly makes me second-guess my desire for a Baconator. Not that I've ever *not* regretted eating one of those things.

Then for goodness sake, don't get one of these! ;)
