Haywire is out this week on both sides of the Atlantic and I was fortunate (?) enough to see it last night. I'm sorry to report that this fails to deliver in every regard. Former MMA champ Gina Carano would surely beat the hell out of me in a fight, but I could out-act her any day of the week. A total lack of charisma and believability. She's hung out to dry by a ghastly script, as well. I'm guess Banderas and Douglas took home a nice pay cheque for what looks to be a day's work.
When a movie is so convoluted that they have to bring in a pointless character just so the lead can spend part of the movie laying the plot out to him (for the benefit of the audience), something's wrong.
This was about as good a film adaptation as I could expect. Given how there's no way any of the other books get adapted (at least not in the Ender branch of the series), leaving out the Locke and Demosthenes subplot was perfectly understandable.
