Went to the 12:13am showing at my local theater (all of the other midnight showings were sold out and at almost all the theaters near me, tickets were scarce), and I really enjoyed the final movie. There was good acting (Alan Rickman was amazing here), great set pieces and lots of action.

They moved really quickly to get to the Battle of Hogwarts and then the movie slowed down. Still, it never felt too long to me.

See this film if you are even barely a fan of "The Boy Who Lived."

I had free 3D midnight tickets to my theater and I'm glad I went to Harry Potter at midnight. It was packed. All 15 theaters in the multiplex were playing Harry Potter. Thousands of people, mainly kids, in costume. But it's the last midnight first showing of a new Harry Potter movie, so why not? It was fun, a festival atmosphere. Like a Harry Potter-only preview of Comic Con next week. And it was the end of an era. A good time was had by all.

But my goodness, with a vastly female attendance at the theater, the line for the ladies room was gigantic. At least 100 girls queued up. The mens room, no line. That's an occasion where it's great to be a guy.

As for the movie, I have a big ass review to write...

It was very good and worth the wait. It was epic in all senses of the word. I was most happy that THE LINE said by a certain character made it in. The whole theatre cheered at that. I can't remember that happening in a long, long time.

Plus we saw trailers for the new Sherlock Holmes and Dark Knight movies. WB has quite a lineup coming out.

Would this movie be better seen in 3D ?

I don't think so, as the 3D was used pretty sparingly except for a few moments in the big battle sequences. Transformers is the only movie I've seen this year in 3D that's really taken advantage of it.

I don't really know what to think of the movie. I never read the books, so I wasn't really as emotionally invested in the characters and I found a lot of the transitions a little confusing (especially since I haven't seen the last movie in over a year now).

There was also a lot of gratuitous Emma Watson cleavage in the first half hour of the movie, which seemed sort of odd. But I guess everybody's all grown up now.

I like the special effects, and though I found the final battle between Harry and Voldemort a little underwhelming, I really enjoyed the character development and tension they created up to that point.

I wasn't sure what to make of

the scene where Harry talks to his family's ghosts near the end. They made sort of a big deal out of it, but it never really went anywhere. I get that they were there for "moral support" but that's not how the dialog was, and according to my friend, they actually do show up again in the books, so I don't know.

Overall, it's a fine ending to the series, and one that I really enjoyed, but probagly would've gotten more out of if I'd been a fan of the books. And I really appreciated all the little winks and nods to the internet theory that

Neville was the secret protagonist of the story.

Anyhow, the future Mrs. and I caught it in IMAX 3D - and maybe they had new glasses, but they hurt like heck...they weighed about five times more than my eyeglasses. I was in pain about twenty minutes in.

As for the movie itself...the final confrontation between Harry and Voldy was, as Excalibur05 suggested, underwhelming. The movie itself was quite good. I wish it kept truer to the book.

Was Timothy Spall in here at all? I don't seem to recall seeing Wormtail outside of one of those flashback moments.

I liked it for the action and a number of great scenes. My only problem with the series is that Harry never really becomes the bad ass, they have him in Chamber of Secrets which is my favorite one. He has to figure things out on his own without Hermione and goes toe to toe with the Basilisk. Then he regresses for a good chunk of the series to the finale. It just seemed Hermione was the better wizard instead of Harry, so why not kill her?

Other than that. Loved everything Snap, Dumbledorf and all the older teachers were in. It was nice the films decided to keep a certain character alive and made for a nice moment at the end. All in all, a good end to a series that I honestly thought was not going to make it at times.

Ah - you're back. Greetings.

Because it was never about who was the best wizard. Voldemort was a better wizard than any of them, except Dumbledore. It was about the prophecy. "Neither can live while the other survives."

Voldemort had to kill Harry to ensure his survival. It was personal.

I get the whole killing Harry part for Voldermort, but why not take out the support system? It was ironic that Voldermort killing Harry was probably the worst thing he could have done.

Because Voldemort was arrogant. The support system was irrelevant to him.

Why he would've killed Harry 10 times over if it weren't for the bungling of his followers, etc. etc.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

According to an interview with the writers in newsarama.com, the show can still be called Smallville since that's Lois' nickname for Clark. He embodies Smallville. Plus they all met and became friends in Smallville.
