Todd Grisham, who worked for WWE for a number of years as an announcer, finished with tonight's NXT TV Taping as he has left the company for a position with ESPN. There had been talk of Grisham leaving the company for several months now as his responsibilities were greatly scaled back over the last year.
Grisham, who also did regular play by play for soccer events on FOX Sports, had been with WWE from 2004 on in different roles, including backstage interviewer, lead announcer for ECW on Sci Fi and a number of now-defunct WWE broadcasts, including Byte This, Sunday Night Heat and The Bottom Line. At one point, his work with Matt Striker on the ECW series a few years back was easily the best broadcast team in the company.
On his Twitter account, William Regal wrote that he wished Grisham well and thanked him for all his help with Regal's commentary work on WWE NXT.
Well, I guess I can stop calling him "the demoted Todd Grisham" now. In all seriousness, I know I complained about him and Striker back when they were doing SD, but at this point, I'd KILL for those two over the three-ring circus of a commentary team that I deal with on a weekly basis.
So two more guys and ESPN can create their own WWE stable. Awesome!
Wonder how he felt about Michael Cole's increased role & presence in the past year or two, and going from lead commentator on the #2 show to relegated back to interviewing... His team with Striker was in fact the best overall announce team and it's nice to know they got commended for it via a Slammy win (however little these mean in the long run)
At least Josh Mathews will get more work!
My side is the side of love, peace and submachine guns.
I'll always remember "Too Legit to Grish" for my snubbing him while talking to The Coach and getting his autograph. In my defence he had just started a few weeks prior, but I should've said "Hi Todd" or something.
