And despite the fact that our rights contained therein(and those in the Bill of Rights) have been assaulted for most of those 215 years(yes, on both the left and the right) it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative and still the most clear, concise, and effective governing document there is.| Promote this thread! | | redsoxnation

Constitutional Convention still was a coup against the Articles of Confederation, as the original duties provided to the Convention were just to modify the Articles of Confedration, not to redesign the government. Personally, I like the Constitution, but it is fun to be a prick by mentioning the Articles of Confederation and seeing how many people think I'm talking about Jefferson Davis.
Thank you Mr. Wanz for the check, now you get an AWA World Title Reign. But be careful, my boy Greg is a heat machine. | Grimis

Of course the Articles were so piss-poorly written that something like the "coup" of the Constitution was necessary for the nation to survive. Beats the hell out of a "real" coup, plus gave us the opportunity to remind folks that George Washington wasn't really the first President of the United States. | Tom Dean

Indeed , the Presidents under the Articles of Confederation were referred to as "President of the United STates in COngress Assembled." | Tom Dean

| #8 Posted on 20.9.02 1315.42 | The constitution is a wonderful, but highly outdated document that needs totally reworked. Unfortunatly, there is no one to do that. We live in a time with too much prosperity to change the government core like that without our corrupt CONGRESS (no matter who is in tha majority) changing things to suit themselves....
