Congrats to Michigan on the best bowl game I've seen so far. They spotted Florida 4 turnovers and still won. Good stuff.

wmatistic, Michigan was number 3 in the Big Ten, Illinois was #2. So, middle of the pack Big Ten beat middle of the pack SEC. Middle of the pack SEC (UT) beat middle of the pack Big Ten (Wisky). All any of us are asking is for people to at least admit that the conferences are *comparable*. Is that so freaking hard? Sheesh.

Sucked to see the Rose and Sugar Bowls were such blowouts. It really kept me from watching more of those games. That said, I do hope that OU blows out WV tonight.

Meyer seems to kinda be a dickhead so I have no problem with people dumping on him. In a postgame interview he was asked if it would be hard to say goodbye to the departing seniors. His response was "No. A few of them sure, but just because you're a senior doesn't mean you have any value."

Classy guy.

Never said the Big 10 and SEC aren't "comparable" just that the SEC is stronger top to bottom. Cause it is. Is it that hard to accept?

And Michigan and Illinois had the same record, but Michigan won head to head. What kind of backward rankings is the Big 10 using to say Illinois would be ranked ahead?

I don't think anyone saying Hawaii should have been in the TITLE game was taken very seriously, but I don't think it's fair to say they didn't deserve to go to a BCS game. The problem is they got stuck with an incredibly tough match-up in Georgia, made even tougher because they had six weeks to prepare. Remember, for all of the lovin' Boise State got last year they were incredibly lucky to get the turnover deep in OU territory after their first TD and even despite that early lead the Sooners pretty much had that game in hand until the miracles started for BSU.

Why don't we give a little hate to these dipshits who chose these teams, who apparently learned their draft strategy from the New York Jets? Since the Rose Bowl lost Ohio State to the title game they had the FIRST pick from the pool of BCS teams to play USC, so they COULD have picked Georgia. Instead, we get 49-17 and 41-3. Nice job, Rose Bowl guys.

Also, Stewart Mandel at SI.com wrote a lengthy article about how there was going to be a Virginia Tech/Oklahoma Orange Bowl, pitting BCS #3 vs. BCS #4, until it got squashed because apparently there were concerns over a split champion.

There could've been three pretty damn sweet match-ups (on paper, of course), plus maybe West Virginia or Missouri (or Kansas, I suppose) against Hawaii. Ridiculous.

EDIT:

Those would be the BCS rankings, which have Illinois #13 and Michigan NOT in the top 25.

Wasn't talking about the BCS rankings, we were discussing the Big 10 standings. Michigan and Illinois had identical overall and conference records, and Michigan won head to head. So either the Big 10 does some crazy work with their rankings or Michigan is the number two team in the Big 10.

It looks like they have them listed in order of their overall records if they are tied in conference, and since Michigan State also drubbed Indiana but is behind them in the conference standings, I am left to conclude that they went alphabetically when two teams had identical overall and conference records.

Agreed. The bowls don't care about giving fans the best possible matchups, and definitely don't care about determining a real national champion. The mind-boggling stupidity of the bowls and the NCAA in this regard is incredible. There isn't an argument in this thread that couldn't be solved had their been a 16-team playoff.

I watched exactly zero minutes of college football during this year's bowl season, and that number won't go up during the *snicker* "national title game."

Oklahoma vs. Va. Tech wasn't possible due to Va. Tech being slotted as ACC Champ in the Orange and Oklahoma being slotted as Big XII Champ in the Fiesta. Georgia could have been 'stolen' by the Rose Bowl because they were an at-large team rather than a conference champion. If the bowls wanted quality games, and that is something that can be questioned, get rid of automatic slotting, outside of the Rose Bowl. There is no great tradition of the ACC Champ in the Orange Bowl, as that was the home of the Big 8 Champ for years. The Fiesta has no deep seated tie in with the Big XII, as the SWC Champ went to the Cotton Bowl and the Big 8 Champ went to the Orange. Yes, the Sugar Bowl has the SEC tradition, but, it is New Orleans, fan bases will travel there. They do have these new flying contraptions that help people outside of the South get to Louisiana for the game. Let the Rose keep their tradition when it is #1 Pac 10 vs. #1 Big 10, but, if one/both of those teams is in the National Title Game, pick the best team for the best game. Keeping the same teams without automatic slotting, these were potential matchups:
Rose: Georgia vs. USC
Sugar: Hawaii vs. Illinois
Orange: Va. Tech vs. Oklahoma
Fiesta: West Virginia vs. Kansas(should have been Missouri, but that is another argument).
That seems just a bit better than what the guys in the ugly jackets selected for us to view.

I've explained this before, but evidently it needs to be explained again.

The Rose Bowl COULD NOT HAVE JUST "PICKED" GEORGIA.

They would have had to have gotten permission from the Sugar Bowl to do that, and the Sugar Bowl wouldn;t have given them that permission.

This comes from an interview our radio station had with the head of the Rose Bowl committee.

COULD NOT COULD NOT COULD NOT.

This is correct, by rule the Sugar would have to agree and they likely would not have.

And tonight we're seeing what I kind of expected, just to a bigger degree in that OU was overrated and West Virginia underestimated.

It's funny year after year OU will really whup a few teams that kinda aren't all that anyway, and immediately the media will tell us awesome they are when they really haven't proven all that much. Then they go shit the bed and everyone shuts up. It happened a few years back when they crushed a bunch of nobodies before getting their ass handed to them by K-State. then last year when they collapsed against Boise State. Now this year here they are getting pushed around by West Virginia.

And that's really not an insult to WV, as I don't lump them in with the rest of the Big East as being crap. I think WV has built a really solid team and they have proven in recent years they can hang with just about anyone. Sure they ended the season with a bad loss, but injury played a big role there. Now if they can just find a coach.

After Mizzou and Texas made the Big 12 look pretty good I think OU and Kansas are gonna do a lot of damage to that rep. Lot of time left tonight but it doesn't look good.

And can I just say again that Noel Devine is friggen incredible. From high school days to now I can't stop watching him run. Unreal.

You are correct. I blame Mike & Mike (actually Greeny and Sean Salisbury this morning) for stating that (what I said) as fact, that the Rose Bowl could have taken Georgia. Those dummies.
