I love this day soooo much. Sure it used to be even better, but it still rules.

Actually been a bunch of great games before today already. I was really pleased with my Noles yesterday. They actually could have won that game as well as they played, despite he refs being utterly retarded, and considering they were down 36 players that was impressive to me. BTW, don't buy the mass media junk on this "scandal", the full story was it was a class seven semesters old, entirely online with no supervision for anything including tests and the bulk of the 500 students enrolled in it had the class file with all the answers cause they never changed the questions. This wasn't a football or Bobby Bowden issue, but they rightly suspended the players for four games and will move on. And no the NCAA isn't even considering a "lack of institutional control" thing, despite what sportswriters who don't do any research may say. Oh well, fun game anyway.

Lot's of good on tap for today. Can't wait.

The Auburn 'Meeting of the Minds' kickoff return where 5 guys gathered with their backs to the play to determine who would take the ball is going to be a tough highlight to beat for the bowl season.

So true. However that catch by Arrington(I think) against Florida in the 4th...damn. And uh, hey Urban? You have other players besides Tebow and Harvin. Good ones even. Just sayin.

Wish Mizzou would have gotten a better matchup. At least they made a nice statement by crushing Arkansas.

Someone mentioned to me that FSU/Kentucky ref crew was the same Big East group that did the WV/Pitt game. Thought they seemed familiar.

Tech storming back on Virginia. Is anyone really surprised there?

Now let's see if we can get at least one major upset in the two late games.

Michigan 41, Florida 35.

All of you Michigan haters can take that one and shove it up your heines. Oh, and the whole "SEC rules, Big Ten sucks" crowd can kiss my ass, too.

Happy New Year!

Hear, hear!!! The "Big 10 blows lol" nonsense that ESPN and all the talking heads wanted to spout all bowl season long can now go cram it.

Seriously, though, how could Lloyd Carr consistently own Florida yet always came up short against beatable Ohio State teams? What the hell?!

Oh well. HAIL TO THE VICTORS!!

So wait, the number two team in the Big 10 beats the number five team in the SEC and this means we all have to admit the Big 10 is all that?

Granted Michigan played awesome and deserved the win but beating Florida wasn't quite the defining statement you're making it out to be. Congrats anyway.

It's not really that simple, though, is it?

You have to take into account that Florida was ranked #12 in the country, going against an unranked Michigan that has never been able to stop a spread offense. Florida was also double digit favorites and, for all intents and purposes, was playing at home.

Florida was only favorite by that much because of what they did last season and clearly this was not the same team as last year. i think that's also why Michigan fans are so excited, because they feel like they beat a team of that caliber.

But I think every non-Michigan/Big 10 fan would admit that the Big 10 number two beating the SEC number five doesn't in any way mean the two conferences are now on equal footing as a whole.

It's a good win. A big win for Michigan. But let's not go overboard.

Please, Michigan wins one game and that proves everything. First of all Carr has beaten Florida twice, that's great, but that's hardly "consistently own them." Beating Florida two random times in bowl games could be great coaching by Lloyd Carr, but it could also be a fluke because bowl games aren't a good example of how good a team really is. Neither game was owning them either, they were both close games. Minnesota or Michigan State, Michigan consistently owns, but Florida? I don't deny that Michigan has beaten Florida twice but they're far from "consistently owning them."

Second, Michigan has a great career against the SEC. They didn't need to win to prove that. Nobody is going to deny that Michigan is one of the all-time great programs in college football. But like most Big 10 fans you've failed to prove anything other than Michigan is a great program. What else you got? Ohio State is a great program as well but unlike Michigan, they do NOT have good history against the SEC.

If ESPN and the talking heads are saying that the Big-10 blows then for once they're pretty accurate. Yes, Michigan won but what about Indiana? What about Michigan State? What about Wisconsin's loss to another SEC team? They're only 1 - 1 against the SEC, they could still easily be 1 - 2 when it's over. What about Purdue only beating Central Michigan by 3 points? What about USC currently leading Illinois 21 - 0? Congratulations Big-10 you have one team that has looked impressive in these bowl games. Bravo. Too bad that team underachieved during the regular season, you know, the part of the season that matters.

Perhaps then Michigan and their fans were incorrect in running out of town the only head coach who has won a national title in Ann Arbor in the last 60 years, and we all know it wasn't Bo who won that title.

I'll give you that one. Indiana got spanked.

    What about Michigan State?

Unranked MSU lost by 3 to #14 Boston College? All in all, I'd say that's a pretty decent showing.

What about Wisconsin's loss to another SEC team?

It was a loss, yes. But it was very close, considering how dominant the SEC is and how much the Big Ten blows.

What about Purdue only beating Central Michigan by 3 points?

I can play that game, too. How about Mississippi State playing Central Florida 3-3 until the very end of the game?

What about USC currently leading Illinois 21 - 0?

What about Arkansas getting obliterated by Missouri?

Say what you will, but SEC has been winning most of their games real, real close, which I think is a little strange considering they're far and away the best conference.

For the love of god, this is the last time I'm going to say it. You're not going to win any more national titles at Michigan when you go 1-6 against Tressel's Ohio State. PERIOD. But then you also throw in a poor bowl record and the most embarassing loss suffered by any Division 1 team. Carr's time was and is over.

I also find it convenient that now Florida as a team is "overrated". This is the first mention of anything like that. Smells like post-loss excuse making to me.

Have you not been reading these threads this year? I'm pretty sure I've said all over the place that Florida is far too reliant on Tebow and doesn't have the defense it did. No one was talking them up other than to mention how great Tebow is. For Michigan fans to NOW after they beat them act like they were awesome is the funny thing.

And Nuclear, no one has ever said that every SEC team should beat the hell out of every other team they play. The contention is and always was that top to bottom the SEC is the strongest conference. "decent showing" and "very close" are still both loses. This Michigan win does nothing much to disprove the SEC is overall superior idea, especially when taken with how the rest of their conference has done thus far.

"What about Arkansas getting obliterated by Missouri?"

You mean the eighth place SEC team getting beat by the second place Big 12 team? Yeah that's like 1000 times more worthless a point than Michigan beating Florida.

The Missouri/Arkansas game is more a demonstration that Missouri should have been in a BCS Game than anything else. If Va. Tech destroys Kansas, that point will be further demonstrated.
Interesting pattern has developed the past 3 seasons: Second week of the season ABC night game has produced 1 of the 2 national title game teams. If I looked at the schedule correctly this evening, that game will be Ohio State at USC in 2008.

I just want to make sure and thank Georgia. Not that crushing Hawaii should be in any way a surprise to anyone who actually watched the Warriors play this season.

As you all know I'm so against giving a team such a great reward for playing such a horrible schedule, and this result should help things in that regard. From now on it's likely that if you don't have at least one quality win you're not getting a BCS game. As it should be.

Indeed, thank you Georgia. I was getting sick of all the "non-BCSes are ok teams too! Hawaii undefeated = national championship berth" hype and nonsense.

But screw you Fox. A high school dropout whose last class was AV studies could've mic'ed the crowd and the bands better than they did. The trophy presentation was even worse, the confetti launchers were louder than rowdy Georgia fans responding to Mark Richt's cheap pops. Not only did they screw that up, but the commentators' volume was too high and all the commercials were noticeably louder than the game. What a piss-poor job of presenting college football.

Even as a Hawaii fan I never really expected them to win, but at the least I expected maybe, I dunno, *a touchdown pass* or two? I guess, just a fun game at least. Really disappointing especially for Colt because he *is* a good passer, it's just that he had no time tonight (props to Georgia's D) and his offensive line was no help and had no answer to the bulldogs. But anyway..

I completely agree about the crappy FOX broadcast though. Player gets injured? Let's not show a replay of the play, let's go to commercial! Questionable call that could go either way? Let's cut the slow motion replay short (twice!) so that you can't even see how the player lands! Audio quality? What audio quality? Ugh.

I love an underdog as much or more than the next person (I've been a Seahawks fan through waaaaay too many subpar and mediocre seasons and don't even get me started on University of Kentucky football), but I got a little tired of Thom Brenaman's apologizing for Hawaii's pitiful facilities and lack of recruiting budget et. al. Did I miss it, or did they explain where those silver helmets came from? Don't they usually wear green helmets and don't all of those helmets cost money, or did a magnanimous althetic manufacturer give them to the school expecting a big boost in sales of mini and replica helmets??

It is a good rule in life never to apologize. The right sort of people do not want apologies, and the wrong sort take a mean advantage of them.

Where did I say the Big 10 is all that? Seriously? I simply said the Big Ten does NOT suck and the SEC does not RULE.

Exactly. That's why I'm so happy to see the win. Of course, I'm sure that if LSU blows out OSU the majority of fans will be slurping the SEC again and half of their teams will be in the top 25. You can't have it both ways. Either Michigan was better than the unranked team they went into the bowl game as or Florida isn't #12 (or whatever inflated fake rating they gave one of the SEC's darlings).

Wrong. We were just tired of listening to the media (and most fans) drone on about App. St. and how inferior of a team Michigan was. Nearly everyone thought Florida (including me) would destroy Michigan (I think the ESPN poll had like 91% Florida) and they were ALL wrong. Deal with it. (I didn't think Florida was that good, I just thought our defense was that bad against a spread.)

And perhaps you'll go back and read how I wasn't a proponent of getting rid of Lloyd or their new hire, which runs the spread offense. We all saw how that compared against Michigan's "outdated" offensive scheme.

And Urban Meyer, you can consider that a receipt from having to listen to you bitch and moan and campaign your team into the title game last year. I'm glad you weren't even on the radar to replace Lloyd.
