Well, Mike Hampton beat Mike Piazza as shortest stay on the Marlins by a multi-million dollar a year player. But, I wonder, will Hampton regain his pre-Colorado form? We don't have a lot of history to go by, only Darryl Kile really, who rocked once he got out of Denver. And Atlanta has been known to revive a few pitchers careers, most recently Mike Remlinger, Chris Hammond, and John Burkett. I think he has a good shot of becoming one of the best pitchers in the game again, assuming the schools in Atlanta are up to his standards.

After seeing the job that Leo Mazzone pulls with his pitchers year in and year out, I'm reasonably sure that Hampton will be fine. This is from someone who completely despises the Braves, too...

However, this does mean that Glavine's ending up somewhere other than Atlanta.

I think it's safe to say that Tom Glavine's out, but does he go to a division rival (Mets, Phillies) or...

...

Does he join the evil Steinbrenner empire?

If he does, that'll open up a whole NEW can of worms. (Gee, Mr. Clemens, Mr. Hernandez, there seems to be no room for you in our rotation)

Well, which one's going to the Phillies? Maddux or Glavine?

And I think the Sox can probably afford to try again signing a veteran pitcher from Atlanta...

If Clemens never dons the beloved pinstripes ever again, I would be happy. I would not have to root for him, and one of my two least-favorite Yankees (he and Mussina) would be gone. Surely he will stay in the AL, since he is a big pussy.

Glavine'll end up with the Phillies, most likely.

Maddux will either resign with the Braves or head west, from what I've heard so far. (In other words, I'm most likely wrong.)

It looks like the Mets have put in a higher bid than the Phils and he might end up there.

It would not surprise me to see Philly end up with no one when it is all said and done.

What do you have against Mussina? From all accounts, I've heard he's a good guy and quality pitcher.

Mussina is a friggin tool. He rarely talks to the media, and if he does, he has this, "Why the hell are you bothering me with this drivel?" kind of tone. I remember the game he pitched against the Bosox where he took a perfect game into the 9th (broken up by the Everett hit). After the game, when interviewed, he was like "whatever". He comes off as uppity, surly, and full of "don't bother me" attitude. If he wanted no interaction with the fans and media, he should get the fuck out of the Bronx. He didn't seem to mind $14.5 mil for 7 years, or however long we have to have him. I have never thought he was worth the money, with that crappy outlook. If he wins the 2003 Cy Young, and wins the 2003 WS MVP, he is still a dick. I am trying to think of Yankees I have liked less, and the only ones I can come up with are Cecil Fielder (his last season in the Bronx), Ruben Sierra, Danny Tartabull, Tobey Harrah, Dale Berra, Charlie Hayes, and Doyle Alexander.

Man, that list is loaded with enough malcontents to stake claim of being the "All-time malacontent" team. That's one of the reasons I don't midn the Yankees. Yeah, they try to buy WS wins, but then they also waste money and take guys like the above off of other teams (special thanks for taking Raul Maundisi from the Jays). As for the Moose, I haven't been a fan of his since he left Baltimore.

We liked him in Baltimore. Then he took the money and ran. Which was fine, I dind't begrudge him the money or the opportunity to compete with the Yankees. It was the way he buried the city of Baltimore and the fans who cheered him for so long in his press conference that sealed the deal. I used to be a big Mussina fan. Then of course he ran his mouth too much and that was that. That's why he gets booed more at Oriole Park than other other player ever has. And that's why it's so gratifying to know he still hasn't won a World Series...

I'm just waiting to see how they'll switch around the rotation to make sure Clemens gets #300 in Yankee Stadium...Jeff Weaver will be the ace eventually though.

At least the Braves are smart enough to let the other teams stick with Hampton's salary, at least if he's still Coloradoed he's somewhat cheap.

Now if only Larry Walker heats up the desert...

Man, it's gonna be weird having neither Glavine OR Maddux pitch for Atlanta.

Weaver be the ace? With that second half of the season he was having? Not so sure about that yet...

Also, Big Bad, from what I've been reading, the Braves are probably going to give up Glavine to retain Maddux. You'll have one of them, at least. Besides, Moss and Millwood aren't half bad either - no cause for concern yet.

Jeff Weaver will never be the #1 starter on the Yanks. They will always have someone far better than he will ever be...at least they better. I still woulda kept Lilly.

My prediction is Glavine signs with the Mets or Braves. If the Mets can't blow him out of the water with a 4 year deal, he is back in Atlanta. I doubt that the Braves are psyched to deal with Boras for Maddux. I could see him going to Texas, being that Atlanta probably wouldn't have enough in the budget for Glavine and Maddux, and Arizona is too far in the red, especially bringing Larry Walkers millions on board.

The current world champs didn't do much against his curveball when he came into relief in Game 4...and he'll have a full year with the staff instead of languishing in Detroit for most of the season... maybe ace is pushing it, but they wouldn't have traded for him if they didn't think they could do something with him...

And AZ's not so much in the red as it is, but cash flow and still having to pay Jay Bell etc. hurts. Still, they're not as dependent on free agents/trades as before, although Walker's presence as a threat would help the lineup. Now if the starting rotation can get better...
