This looks like it's gonna be a winner.

But let's face it, this film all hinges on the BIG moment. Anyone who read the book knows what THAT moment is. Considering the cast members involved, I'm confident that it'll be pulled off well.

“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused. Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras | General Zod

I agree with It's False in thinking that "Order of the Phoenix" was the best so far. Since Yates directed the best it only makes since to have him back for a second go-round.

Order of the Phoenix being weak as a movie isn't all that surprising since it's pretty much universally agreed that it's the weakest of the books in the series. The fact that most of the good parts of the book comes in the secondary and tertiary details (e.g. "Weasley is Our King", the twins's dramatic exit from Hogwarts, Hermoine's blackmailing of Rita Skeeter, etc.) that were ultimately cut from the movie doesn't help matters much. So for that reason it doesn't really bother me that Yates is getting another chance, but since Half-Blood Prince was such an improvement over Order of the Phoenix as a book, if he blows it again I'm not going to want to see him around for the Deadly Hallows films either.

The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future. | |

Apologies for bumping this older thread, but I gotta say that I have heard almost nobody say that OotP was their least favorite book. I know some fans were mad at Harry being more angsty, and there were gripes about the length of the book. Most people I have heard from think that the first two books in the series were in the running for the "worst" book in the series.
As for the trailer, I loved the subtle look of glee from the young Tom Riddle as Dumbledore proves his magical prowess. It will be interesting how they do this movie, since so much of it concerns flashbacks.
I'm suitably excited, even if I have to wait until 2K9.

| #8 Posted on 25.8.08 1054.05 | Instant Rating: 5.16 | Actually OotP was my favorite book in the series. It was the book that best straddled the line between Potter as young student and Potter as young man with a destiny. By Book 6 so much was centered around the Voldemort story that the Hogwarts parts, and in many ways anything not related to the struggle felt like window dressing. While I understand the need for that progression, it removed some of small joys from the books after 5. I loved 6 and 7, but five was my favorite.
