(Waving Hand for the last ten minutes...)

Ooooh! Ooooh! Over here! Pick me! Pick Me!

I've actually reviewed this movie twice! Once at the old ez-board. I am curious whether the version being shown in the States is dubbed or sub-titled or whether both options are available. I, of course, saw it the he-man macho way sans sous-titres.

The following was originally posted somewhere else:

One of the advantages of living in Montreal is that we get to see French movies before you do, so I have actually seen the movie (months ago)! "Le Pacte des Loups" is (very loosely) based on some real events that happened in France when some peasants started getting chomped up by a large animal.

In the movie, an agent of the King just returned from New France (i.e. Quebec) with his faithful Indian companion is given the job of going to the region to catch the beast and return it to the zoo at Versailles dead or alive. The agent is a cross between Darwin, Hawkeye (Last of the Mohicans) and D'Artagnan. His faithful Indian companion is played by Marc Dascastos! I said his faithful Indian companion is played by Marc Dacastos! He played Crying Freeman! Hello! (sigh...)

The movie is a little long, weighing in around three hours, but that's because it includes the vicious politics of the Three Musketeers, the man-beast action of Wolfen and the kick-ass Iroquois kung-fu action of...

Damn, you know, I don't actually know of any other movies with kick-ass Iroquois kung-fu action...

(Technically in the movie, I don't think Dacastos is an Iroquois. I think he's supposed to be a Huron who went extinct around this point from disease and a variety of Indian wars where they were French pawns, but Iroquois is much cooler to say than Huron.)

It's well worth seeing, although as with any foreign movie, the quality of the sub-titles (or *bleech* dubbing) could affect your viewing pleasure. It should be said that it's not paced like your normal Hong-Kong action movie which tend to be paced like your average porno:

Wisp of plot-fight-wisp of plot-fight-fight-fight-hint of plot twist-fight-heel turn-fight-big climax!

For one thing the first fight doesn't happen until about an hour into the movie, and usually there is at least a half-hour worth of plot developments before the next fight.

Did I forget to mention that there's also a romance going on in the movie? Not to mention a purely physical relationship...

& from the old EZ-Board:

Est'ce que t'as vu PACTE DES LOUPS? Je l'ai vu hier soir et c'etait incroyable! Mark Dascastos comme l'homme sauvage demontrant le Iroquois-Fu! (Bruno La Hire?) jouant D'Artagnan si D'Artagnan etait le Dernier des Mohicans! C'est un peu bizarre de voir le combat chinois pendant un film francais mais pour cette histoire au moin c'etait parfait...

& for the rest of you, keep your eyes open for a film called Pacte des Loups. It just opened in Quebec so it will probably be available in the rest of Canada in the next couple of months and in the U.S late in the year. Imagine Three Musketeers Meet the Wolfman as directed by Tsui Hark and you might get an idea as to the coolness of the movie...

Over the summer I got infested by the Sir Cam worm. After a few days, I got it off my computer and everything seemed fine. But now in the past two months or so I find that I have all these weird programs suddenly on my computer.
