Oh, happy day. Even if Gruden sucks, he has to be better than Kornheiser. No plans are mentioned if he will go elseware - he'll be on PTI as usual.

ESPN radio was saying that he'll still "contribute" to the Monday Night show in some way.

The return of halftime PTI?

I hope this was in the works for a while, because it'd mean Tony was already working on getting back on radio.

Good to see. TK was never comfortable in the booth and he knew from the very beginning that he would stink that job up. This was something the poor guy was roped into by ESPN.

The ball is yours, Chucky. You don't exactly have a tough act to follow.

Would anyone have complained if they just went to a two man booth?

Then the unthinkable could happen and the game could actually get a chance to breathe. Must have inane chatter at any cost.

I thought if they replaced him with anyone, it would be Simmons.

But, to his credit, Simmons wrote today that he thought three in the booth for football is not a good thing.

For those who might be curious, I've heard nothing about TK coming back to radio. I do know there are rumors of someone wanting to start a new sports station in DC to compare with ESPN 980 (now owned by Dan Snyder). Signing TK would be the best way to start a new station, IMO

Now if only people would put so much hatred on Mike Tirico as they did upon TK. Kornheiser may had been a trainwreck on MNF, but he was at least somewhat entertaining and he is definitely even more fun to watch on PTI. Tirico on the other hand is just boring as hell to listen to, on both TV and radio. Why ESPN considers him to be so great I'll never know, since I see no upside at all to having him on the air.

Oh, and I don't have high hopes for Gruden. He seems too sumg and rigid to listen to throughout the whole game. Besides, I see him leaving ship in a year or two for another coaching job, so I can't see this sticking long term.

But if Tony were to go to a station that would be competing with an ESPN Radio station, wouldn't that be the end of Tony at ESPN and thus PTI? Considering an ESPN personality needs virtually permission from the Pope to do a guest spot on a radio station that competes in the same market as an ESPN Radio, I can't see them letting one of their personalities spearhead a station competing with their brand.

I would need to do research on this topic. I'm sure there are probably instances where ESPN personalities work at a station that is not an ESPN affiliate. I know LeBatard's station only recently began an affiliate (again), but I don't think there was one in Miami in the intergrum. You would probably know better than I if there are any ESPN people that appear on WEEI instead of the ESPN Boston station. Before he took the buyout, TK wouldn't have been able to work for ESPN 980, since it's owned by Snyder and Post emplyees can't work for a station owned by one of the teams.

It was either late fall '06 or late fall '07 (years blend together at this point, but I lean more towards '06.) where the ESPN guys who would do paid spots on EEI were no longer allowed to do it due to the head to head competition. Also, Francessa mentioned it a few weeks ago when he was planning to have Showalter as a guest, but then they remembered he was an ESPN guy so he would have to go begging for permission. So if they won't let guys do 10 minute spots, I doubt they'll let them to do 3 hour shows. It is also why during Super Bowl week most of the guest analysts on non ESPN radio stations are now NFL Network guys.

It's sure a lot more potential than they had last year, but Saben is taking on quite a task with these three. He's a brave man.
