To my fellow W-board users who are living in America, how has the shutdown affected you thus far, or will it?

Also, the Ted Cruz presidential campaign is going to be HILARIOUS.

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone." --- Bart Giamatti, on baseball

The Daily Show, Colbert, and The Onion have been killing it with all this great material. That's all I've got.

We've got a project (large and ongoing) where we've been told to stop work on any potential newly arriving analyses, since the government can't pay us for the work. Anything that was started prior to today is ok for continued work (and payment).

I kinda hope he wins, just so we can change our city signs to say:

Absolutely no effect on me other than making my Twitter stream totally unreadable.

Half the people I know work for the Fed, so the mood is sour in this neck of the woods. The only upside is that rush hour wasn't totally crazy today.

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

I'm a furloughed federal worker, and to put it bluntly, the Tea Party can go fuck itself.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

I have been noticing a lot more construction on our roads whether that is due to the end of the year state spending or the shutdown, I have no clue. Feel you guys getting screwed, the new plan is for the popular programs to get money. I would imagine its mostly the military and VA.

It hasn't affected me directly other than making my blood boil at how disingenuous Tea Party Republicans in the House are, and how many people I know on Facebook who are just parroting the lies Fox News is peddling. This is totally on the House Republicans and their lack of leadership and sanity. Given how things have gone to this point from the sequester to this, I am totally expecting them to crash the debt ceiling too.

I completely agree with all of this. The Facebook thing is the worst. It gets very disheartening to see how many of my "friends" don't have an original idea or opinion. The most popular POV now seems to be "Well, Obama is willing to sit and talk with Iran but he won't sit and talk with Republicans rabble rabble rabble!" Jon Stewart addressed that point more saliently than I could. I don't have a side in this, other than the fact that Obamacare is a law and not just an idea. It went through the proper channels, was ratified and signed.

As a military family living abroad, this has been about 80% of hell. The overseas military members will still get paid. But a lot of members of this very large European community are GS workers. They have the same bills and financial responsibilities as every other American over here, but they are being furloughed. Families are going into panic mode, and this is only day two. I hope for their sakes, that this cleans up quickly.

So, if we find a guy who hangs out with Al Qaeda and has plans for a dirty bomb in his office, we should... let him go, because he's not (yet) a criminal? Come on, this isn't 1984. Ashcroft isn't pointing the finger of accusation at every other American....
